On arrival, when the staff opened the front door, they said good morning and asked us to do a lateral flow test and were given a mask to wear. We were taken to my mother's room, staff member knocked and waited for a reply before entering. The room smelt clean and fresh, as did the whole home. When we asked if we could go out, the staff got my mother ready. We found the staff polite and they couldn't do enough throughout our visit. I found all the staff had a smile and were chatting to other residents. Overall, a good home.

I booked into the Grove for two weeks after a hip replacement operation. I chose my room and was offered every possible care. The staff were very considerate and understanding of my needs. I left rested, refreshed and relatively mobile. My overall impression was of a friendly, family atmosphere.

My father has been in The Grove for seven months. The room he was put in originally was not what we requested, and it was small and dark and he likened it to a prison cell.
He moved to a better room and was happier, but at £1500 a week, surely that is the very minimum you can hope for! Requests to the management regarding issues of concern were never addressed and calls are never returned. It takes an age for anyone to answer the door when visiting.

Particular members of staff are abusive, aggressive and rude, and I have grave concerns that this bullying behaviour is repeated when caring for my Dad who is now becoming extremely anxious. I have asked for the contact details of the Owner to make an appointment to discuss my concerns, but the staff have refused to divulge them. I will be taking this matter forward with the Care Quality Commission.

My mother was at The Grove for 19 months with slight dementia after a few illnesses. During this time, we found the staff to be very caring and sympathetic to my mum's needs and we felt she was safe there. The food was very good and plentiful. The family was always made welcome and we felt at home. The house is beautiful, very clean and well presented.

Reply from Hayley Bilney, Assistant Manager at The Grove

Thank you, Andrea, for your kind review. It was a pleasure to look after your mum during her time with us and she is deeply missed.

When locating a suitable home I viewed many. On arrival at The Grove, I was struck by how well maintained the outside was. When I went inside there were no unpleasant odours or strong air fresheners I had found in many other homes. There was a very friendly atmosphere, like a family home. The manager showed us around, she was very keen to find out what needs we had and showed great empathy with my aunt.
The home is decorated and maintained to very high standards, it's spotless. We saw a room at the front with views over the gardens and a sea view from the balcony. The bathroom was super, a nice touch is bespoke toiletries, selected by the manager.
We chatted with a couple of the residents, and it was clear they were all happy. Afternoon tea was being served at the time, which included homemade cakes. In the summer they can take this in the gardens which are exceptional.

So glad I chose this home, as my aunt is very happy there, and care first class.

Thank you for your kind words. We are always looking at ways of improving our service, but it is so lovely to receive such positive feedback and good to know also that the small touches make a big difference.

The Grove is used by my mother for respite to allow my husband and I to go away for business/holiday. Every effort is made to book space for my mother. Excellent service by all staff - my mothers only complaint is about the food which varies from satisfactory to Ok.

Care, compassion and cleanliness. Everyone at The Grove has been kind and thoughtful about the care of my grandmother. They've treated her with dignity at all times and I've been reassured that she's in a safe and caring environment. My first impression was that this was the best care home I viewed a year ago and I've not been disappointed. Their care has been outstanding both when she was fitter and now she's more frail with different needs.

My mother in law had almost 3 years at The Grove before her Dementia/Alzheimers regressed to the point that she needed acute nursing care at a specialist home.

In all her time at The Grove, the staff, the care, the facilities, management, her rooms and the activities etc... Were first class and we were so pleased to have The Grove back in 2014.
