Mum spent the last two years of her life being extremely well cared for by the team at Briarcroft, and her passing was handled with sensitivity and compassion. As Mum's dementia worsened over time, I know she became more challenging to look after, but the team comfortably rose to that challenge, and
I never had concerns for her safety or care. The staff have always been kind and caring, and have had Mum's best interests at heart. The home did everything I could have thought of to look after Mum and put my mind at ease. Having tried two other care homes before Briarcroft, I wish we had come here first. Thanks, ladies, for all your help.

Reply from Tammy Buckley, Registered Manager at Briarcroft

Thank you so much for your heartfelt words. It means the world to our team to know that your mum felt safe, cared for, and supported during her time at Briarcroft. Caring for someone with advancing dementia can be complex and emotional, and we're deeply honoured that you entrusted us with her wellbeing. We're truly grateful to have played a part in her journey and to have been able to offer you peace of mind throughout. Your appreciation is a reminder of why we do what we do-and we'll make sure your kind words are shared with everyone here.Thank you again for your trust, warmth, and thoughtful reflection.

My father in law passed away last month after 4 and a half years at Briarcroft.
He was not the easiest man to live with or support, he was demanding, grumpy, awkward and living with dementia. Not only were the carers on hand, they were undoubtedly more caring and loving than any of us were as family.
I could put this down to distance and time and the fact that weekly phone calls lasted no more than a few words but it was much more than that.
Acknowledging that they were doing their jobs, they did so much more without question and with immense patience. Nothing was to much trouble to keep him as happy and comfortable as possible but also in their dealings with my wife and I.
After his passing, the carers were undoubtedly very upset despite his challenging behaviour and eight of them turned up for his cremation with a wonderful personalised poem written by one of the staff members in particular based on words of remembrance of my father in law by all of the staff. It was a small ceremony that the attending carers really added to.

My gran is now well looked after and cared for since we moved her from our local care home to Briarcroft Care Home. The staff are patient, kind and treat all the residents with the dignity and respect they deserve. They have a real understanding of how to support people with dementia, and they have
certainly injected some life back into my gran. Thank you for all you do.

My brother and I moved our mum from our local care home because we were not happy with the care she had been receiving there.
We are absolutely delighted with the level of care standards at Briarcroft.
Mum is now being looked after with genuine care, love and respect by the management and staff of
Briarcroft.
They really are specialists in caring for clients with dementia and are genuinely offering person-centred care for my mum.
They listen and respond to family requests very quickly. We are also kept fully informed of any changes.
I love the group chat which keeps us in the loop and enables quick communication. Also, all the wonderful updates and pictures of the many activities and events.
I cannot rate the home highly enough and can only say that it is a genuine relief to be able to finally relax and know that mum is being well looked after.

My wife has been a resident of Briarcroft for a little over 12 months. The home is always warm, clean and welcoming. The food is always to a good standard and my wife eats and enjoys everything provided.
My daughters and I are frequent visitors and see at first hand the care, attention and compassion
shown by every member of staff - nothing appears to be too much trouble for them. Birthdays and Anniversaries are celebrated with obvious enthusiasm (and cake!) and other notable calendar dates and events are similarly treated and provide an excuse for fancy dress, music and laughter!
My wife always greets each member of staff with a ready smile which assures us that she is happy, content and receiving the help, care and support that she needs.Thank you Briarcroft!

My elderly mother moved into Briarcroft a few weeks ago. The lovely staff there are great with her and are good at helping her with some difficult dementia-related issues.
For her 93rd birthday, the staff brought out a cake with candles to blow out and sang Happy Birthday to her. It was lovely, and
Mum was in her element being fussed over.
The manager is very helpful, and it seems a very happy place with plenty of stimulation for the residents.

Overall experience of Briarcroft is as high in their calibre of care can be. My mum is well cared for and I know she is happy. I've mentioned before to others in my praise that when you walk into Briarcroft you walk into an envelope of love. The staff truly care.
I love that they are champions of ensuring
Mum drinks plenty and push that goal so she is well hydrated as she never used to drink enough. The food is excellent too. Mum enjoys and now has a good appetite.
I can't thank Briarcroft enough for the love and care they give Mum and us (the family) when we visit Mum. Just a big happy family.
Thank you Briarcroft.

Briarcroft is a home from home. The loving and caring atmosphere is generated by the continual hard work and efforts of the staff to ensure they provide the very best quality of life for each resident they care for. Briarcroft is a happy home, full of fun, laughter and nothing is too much effort. As
a family we will always feel so grateful for the comfort we feel, knowing that Mum is so happy and well cared for. Our Dad also spent a short time living at Briarcroft before he died in 2020. Again, Briarcroft went more than the extra mile to accommodate and care for him after a stroke, right at the beginning of the Pandemic lockdown, and made his final days with Mum, the best they could be.

Reply from Edith Nortje, Manager at Briarcroft

Thank you so much for your kind words. It was a pleasure to take care of Dad for a short time and we all love having Mum as a part of our Briarcroft family.

When I visit my father I'm welcomed with big smiles and this is followed through to the atmosphere in Briarcroft being warm and friendly. My dad is always happy and looks well cared for i.e. clean nicely cut hair, clean clothes and he is relaxed, his needs are being met. He has always had a good appetite
and he obviously enjoys all the food that is served, he still has a little pop belly!
The manager and her staff are always happy to talk about any worries I may have about my dad. Once when it appeared my dad hadn't recognized me during a visit, only by the way he spoke, (his sentences are all over the place), one of the staff phoned me later in the day to make sure I was ok and to explain that it was his dementia and not him that did that. I was actually ok and understood that but how nice was that?
I am so pleased I found Briarcroft I don't know what I would have done without them.

Reply from Edith Nortje, Manager at Briarcroft

I cannot recommend Briarcroft enough for one main over-arching reason - the staff. They were the best we could have hoped for - in fact they exceeded our greatest expectations. When your beloved Mum is desperately sick with dementia, dying and in great need and family members are exhausted emotionally
and physically, the value of staff like all those at Briarcroft cannot be calculated.
I thank the manager and every one of her staff from the bottom of our hearts for the professionalism, kindness, graciousness and hard work they all do. I would recommend Briarcroft to anyone seeking the same love and care towards their loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.672)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.672) out of 10 for Briarcroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.872 for Briarcroft is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.872

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Briarcroft is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
