Malden House is a truly elegant country residence that is steeped in period charm yet filled with warmth and understanding. The original house, which dates back to 1820, has been thoughtfully re-designed, and recently extended, incorporating many original features to provide a safe, appealing and comfortable home for its residents.

Located in the picturesque coastal town of Sidmouth in East Devon, Malden House nestles comfortably in the beautiful countryside and lies within a short walk of the sandstone cliffs of the Sid Valley. A fully-trained, compassionate and caring team has created an exceptional residential care home equipped with 29 bedrooms and spaces inside and out to enjoy both companionship and privacy.

Residents can relax in the communal areas, enjoy all inclusive homemade meals in the dining rooms or enjoy the fresh air in the gardens. Video calling is also available to keep up to date with friends and family along with an all inclusive laundry service.

It is such a pleasure to visit my Mum at Malden House. The staff care given to my Mum is amazing, such dedication. The food is wonderful, tasty, adjusted to fit each resident. A lot of activities are always organised. Something different each day.

My experience is very good. I know my wife is in very good hands. The care applied at Malden House is very personal and on a daily basis is kind, attentive and very personal. I am relieved about my wife's daily life as I know Malden House and its staff will go the extra mile on her behalf.

We have been very reassured by how well my father has been cared for with dignity as his dementia slowly declines. The carer keeps me very up-to-date with his progress and any changes. I don’t think I would see how anything could be improved. We are very happy.

My mum stayed at Malden House Care Home for a short respite whilst I went on holiday and was very happy there. The staff are all wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and apparently, the food was brilliant! She will be very happy to be booked in again when I need another break. Thank you so much.

My mother moved in February 2023, I wish she had moved in earlier. Malden cared for her until her death in September 2023.
The staff were always cheerful and could not have been more helpful.
There was always something going on, trips out.
Her end-of-life care was second to done. I will always be
grateful to the staff at Malden.

Friendly and helpful staff. Don’t wash sweaters as gently as I do! (but that’s being picky). At present, I look out on the extension that is being built which is unpleasant. Please could the builders keep their loo doors shut!

Mum moved into Malden House when she was no longer able to cope at home alone due to her dementia. The staff have all been very kind and treat her with good humour which Mum really responds to. Although Mum would never have chosen to go into a care home, we feel that Malden House is the very best for
her we could have found and she has been settled there for more than a year now. Mum has benefitted greatly from the outings and other activities, particularly helping with cooking and baking and using the garden. Communication with the staff is very good and although they are of course very busy we are made to feel welcome and part of the household when we visit. The staff always stress that Malden House should feel like Mum's home to us as well as to her. Huge thanks to all at Malden House.

My wonderful parents both suffered from dementia and became Malden House residents in January 2020. They were cared for there with gentleness and kindness by the amazing staff. One of my favourite memories is of Mum being escorted into the Halloween Ball by the maintenance man, who like all the team
often went above and beyond their normal duties to enrich the lives of residents. As time went on and their dementia progressed, Malden staff adapted their care and sought advice from other care professionals when needed. Mum died in August 2022 and Dad just 2 weeks ago in April 2023. Both were able to die in quiet, private peace at Malden and I am forever grateful to the team there for enabling that. Most of my ratings are excellent, however, the room my friend is in is very basic, although acceptable to my friend, little things like a towel rail would help a lot so that towels do not cover half the sink! It has been mentioned a number of times and is on some list of things to be done. Having said
that, I cannot fault anything else at Malden House and would highly recommend it.

We found the staff at Malden House to be friendly, helpful and amendable. My partner was in for respite care and they took good care of him. he was sorry to leave and should it be necessary he would be happy to return.

I think the care is first class. I'm aware that areas can require improvement at times; however, the staff are contention and helpful, willing to do what's needed. Always kept clean/tidy and shows the home is loved. The food is lovely and can't be faulted. Always very welcoming.

My father settled into Malden House very quickly. He often says how happy he is there and that he could not be in a better place. This is very reassuring for the rest of the family. It is good to know that he is looked after by a very dedicated team. They are aware of his needs, especially when it comes
to keeping him in routine and reassuring him when he is anxious. The Malden staff put on a wide variety of activities which residents can join in with if they wish. I am not aware of other homes locally offering residents so much to do. We know Dad is safe and well looked after by staff who know his needs and for whom nothing appears too much to help us or Dad.

Having chosen Malden House for our aunt, 6 years ago, we can do nothing but praise the staff for their commitment to their residents, who I’m sure can present challenges. Not only do they care for the residents, they care for the families of them. Communication is good and nothing is ever too much trouble.

Knowing that my husband needed extra care, I was recommended to Malden House, where my husband is now residing. The home is warm, comfortable and very homely. Well, from the outset the team at Malden House have been absolutely fabulous with the way they handled my dear old dad. He came to stay in September for a couple of months and he was treated with the utmost respect and kindness by every member of staff that he came into contact with. He was given his
own space to establish his own routine which he needed to do without anyone pushing or interfering and the team completely understood that. He really did enjoy his time there, particularly his time in the garden when the weather was still nice. He thoroughly enjoyed the food and did indeed look well on it. He was always well turned out and clean when I visited and his room was always spotless.
My father himself said that if he had to recommend a care home to anyone he would always recommend Malden House. My father was always extremely appreciative of all the team did for him. I would particularly like to thank two staff members for everything and the support they showed me too. Thanks.

My mum has been at Malden House for nearly two years now. Despite the sadness of dementia and the inevitable decline in her health and awareness due to the disease, it has been a godsend to the family to know she is being well looked after and safe - and that she is never alone. Recently I was sitting
with Mum in the conservatory before lunchtime. I noticed the care staff gear up for dinner 15-20 minutes before it was due. Thinking they were starting early, I watched them support each person to move to the table, with affection, reassurance, lightheartedness and gentle help, treating each one individually according to their physical or emotional needs. It was such a simple, everyday activity but I was really moved to see the time and care they took to do it, achieving an unhurried and harmonious gathering by the time lunch was ready. Thank you to all the staff for their care and thoughtfulness and for treating each person as the individual they are.

I am Tabitha and I am the Registered Manager of our lovely home, Malden House.


Having been a member of the Malden and Hartford Care family for over 10 years, I have had the privilege of supporting the people who live in our home to live their best lives. Our residents are able to choose what they want to do each day and have support to fulfil their wildest dreams and wishes.


It is my passion to ensure everyone who enters our home is having a brilliant day and feels like a true part of our family.

My name is Gabrielle, but better known as Gabby. I have worked in care since 1992 and can honestly say I have enjoyed many parts of this rewarding profession.


I have performed many roles and each one has brought different things to the table. It has meant that I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for so many people from different walks of life, different characters and different concerns.


I have worked at Malden House for thirteen years. I feel honoured that I have reached the point where I can support as Deputy Manager alongside Tabitha our Manager.


We understand what a difficult transition it is for elderly people, some with dementia to move into a care setting but this extends to the families too. We aim to support all.


I feel privileged to work in such a caring home and I feel honoured to share the experiences and lives of our ladies and gentlemen who have done so much for us and even the country as a whole.
