Malden House is a truly elegant country residence that is steeped in period charm yet filled with warmth and understanding. The original house, which dates back to 1820, has been thoughtfully re-designed, and recently extended, incorporating many original features to provide a safe, appealing and comfortable home for its residents.

Located in the picturesque coastal town of Sidmouth in East Devon, Malden House nestles comfortably in the beautiful countryside and lies within a short walk of the sandstone cliffs of the Sid Valley. A fully-trained, compassionate and caring team has created an exceptional residential care home equipped with 29 bedrooms and spaces inside and out to enjoy both companionship and privacy.

Residents can relax in the communal areas, enjoy all inclusive homemade meals in the dining rooms or enjoy the fresh air in the gardens. Video calling is also available to keep up to date with friends and family along with an all inclusive laundry service.

My father is a new resident in the home and due to COVID I have not been inside the home. My visits have been in the garden. My first impressions are good. All the staff I have met have been lovely, very friendly and caring towards myself and Dad. They have shown flexibility for visiting over the weekend,
we were here, despite COVID challenges. Dad is enjoying his food!

A number of staff have been working at the home for a few years now and are very familiar with daily routines introduced by the manager and senior colleagues. Should an emergency occur, staff slip into a well-organised routine giving confidence and comfort to residents and visitors alike.

I've been here a few times before and also telephoned and all the staff are extremely helpful and polite. I'm very happy my sister is here.
One disappointment I have is that my sister's hair is really awful. It's clean, but it would be so much better if it was regularly cut and styled with a fringe.
Hopefully, this will be noted.

I have visited the home on several occasions (including an admission interview supporting the resident's wife). My only comparisons are the number of homes for those with dementia we visited before selecting Malden House.
The home has a special warmth within the atmosphere and the staff are noticeably
friendly caring and attentive. The general atmosphere is one of relaxed unstressed people being well cared for with affection.

My visit was lovely, we were welcomed warmly and all the staff were friendly and helpful. All of the residents were happy and content, the rooms were bright and clean. Granny looked well cared for, clean and smart. There was an exciting event for Wimbledon in the afternoon, being prepared. She seemed
to respond to talk about animals and liked the bright colourful toys we had, I would like to see more of that in her room, perhaps pictures/decorations/soft toys/duvet covers.

I cannot provide ratings for all areas required as my husband only has day care and because of COVID I haven't been further than the front door. However. All staff I have come in contact with have been friendly, warm and helpful which is all good.

Myself is very happy with the service that is provided for my husband. I know personally that this home is lovely, as I/we have had previous experience of my husband being with other services and him being unhappy. He is happy when he leaves Malden on a Friday.

All staff, both carers and kitchen staff, handyman etc seem to have a really positive attitude and are always willing to help in any way they can. I can't recommend Malden House highly enough and am very happy that my mother is there, even though it's a long way from where I live.

My mother has recently moved into Malden House and has settled very well. The staff go out of their way to be welcoming and caring and make sure that Mum is well looked after. She likes her room and the home-cooked food and benefits greatly from the company. The home always looks clean and well-maintained
and has a lovely garden in which the residents are able to spend time. For me, it is reassuring to see posts about her and the other residents on Facebook as she has dementia and is, therefore, unable to remember what's been happening when I speak to her on the phone. They all seem to be involved in the various activities and are treated like one big family. Thanks to all the staff at Malden House for your wonderful care.

My hubby had a week’s respite care at Malden House. The manager and all the staff were amazing and going above and beyond the call of duty. Everyone was so helpful, professional and showed such care during a very stressful time for me. His room was very clean and modern with transfers of cherry blossom
and blue tits on the wall. There is a conservatory and it seems a happy and pleasant place. The food seems wonderful. The residents appear to be in varying stages of dementia but my hubby was able to chat to some of the men and seemed very happy there.

Mum moved into Malden House last year and everyone there has been fantastic. She is always well-presented, her room is clean and tidy (with personal touches) and the staff engage with her in a friendly and caring way.


Mum is very settled, she talks positively about the food and how she is looked

after and clearly enjoys the many activities the staff organise. These activities show great imagination - and are designed for Mum to be able to take part and interact with other residents. Living away from Sidmouth, it is lovely to see regular pictures of these on social media.


The team are also very understanding of us as a family - and very welcoming when we visit. All staff that I have met are friendly, kind to Mum and good at keeping us up to date with practicalities.


It is a huge comfort to know that Mum is being well looked after and is safe and happy in her new home.

Since admission to Malden this summer, my mother has been cared for with dignity, compassion and respect. I regularly visit my mother and I find Malden to be a friendly, happy environment. The house is always very clean, my mother well dressed and the staff communicate well with her and appear to understand
my mother and her individual needs.
My mother speaks highly of the home cooked food.
The daily activities are amazing and show great thoughtfulness, dedication and hard-work.
Malden has worked hard to ensure safe practice during a very difficult period of time.
The house has been very kind and patient with my father in helping him come to terms with the new family situation.
Social media and video calls have been great for helping the extended family stay connected with my mother.
I would highly recommend Malden as a home away from home.

The experience I have with Malden House has been faultless, the manager and her team work tirelessly to look after all their residents. I could not have found a better home for my wife, who has Alzheimer's.

After looking round many homes, I chose Malden because it is small enough to function as a caring family. I have not been disappointed. All the staff take an active interest in the residents and enhance their lives. Cinema, farm and shopping visits, are just a few of my dear husband’s recent outings.
I am especially thankful for the time we have spent together in the beautiful garden and summerhouse. Good relationships are established easily with the staff and someone is always there to answer the phone. Well done Malden, you are doing a wonderful job in caring for our loved ones in a friendly home environment.

Very impressed with the personal care that my mother receives. She is treated with love and affection, likewise, great care and consideration is shown to my dad when he visits. The home has a relaxed atmosphere and its grounds are very peaceful.

I have been very privileged to join the wonderful team at Malden House as a volunteer since September 2020. My mother is a resident at the home. When the home went into lockdown due to the Covid pandemic I immediately signed up. I wanted to support the staff during this difficult time. I can’t praise
them enough, they have maintained high standards of care throughout and followed the guidelines set out to ensure the residents remain safe and well. Despite the daily challenges, the staff remain cheerful, patient and caring. The resident's needs and care are always their priority. This experience has helped me to really appreciate just how much goes on within the home and the dedication and commitment of the staff team.
I have been made to feel very welcome and enjoy being in Malden, just as my mother has done since she came to live there. A good indication of the skills all staff demonstrates and the general feel of the ‘Malden’ environment.

Having been a member of the Malden and Hartford Care family for over 10 years, I have had the privilege of supporting the people who live in our home to live their best lives. My name is Gabrielle, but better known as Gabby. I have worked in care since 1992 and can honestly say I have enjoyed many parts of this rewarding profession.


I have performed many roles and each one has brought different things to the table. It has meant that I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for so many people from different walks of life, different characters and different concerns.


I have worked at Malden House for thirteen years. I feel honoured that I have reached the point where I can support as Deputy Manager alongside Tabitha our Manager.


We understand what a difficult transition it is for elderly people, some with dementia to move into a care setting but this extends to the families too. We aim to support all.


I feel privileged to work in such a caring home and I feel honoured to share the experiences and lives of our ladies and gentlemen who have done so much for us and even the country as a whole.
