My hubby had a week’s respite care at Malden House. The manager and all the staff were amazing and going above and beyond the call of duty. Everyone was so helpful, professional and showed such care during a very stressful time for me. His room was very clean and modern with transfers of cherry blossom and blue tits on the wall. There is a conservatory and it seems a happy and pleasant place. The food seems wonderful. The residents appear to be in varying stages of dementia but my hubby was able to chat to some of the men and seemed very happy there.
Thank you so much for your very kind words about Malden House. It was a joy for us to have your husband here with us for a week's respite care. It has been a challenging time for all of us but the happiness and safety of our ladies and gentlemen are always central to everything we do. Please keep in touch and let us know if we can be of help and support to you and your husband in the future.
Mum moved into Malden House last year and everyone there has been fantastic. She is always well-presented, her room is clean and tidy (with personal touches) and the staff engage with her in a friendly and caring way.
Mum is very settled, she talks positively about the food and how she is looked after and clearly enjoys the many activities the staff organise. These activities show great imagination - and are designed for Mum to be able to take part and interact with other residents. Living away from Sidmouth, it is lovely to see regular pictures of these on social media.
The team are also very understanding of us as a family - and very welcoming when we visit. All staff that I have met are friendly, kind to Mum and good at keeping us up to date with practicalities.
It is a huge comfort to know that Mum is being well looked after and is safe and happy in her new home.
Thank you for your wonderful review of Malden House. It is our pleasure to look after your mum and we are delighted that she has settled in so well, enjoying and living her best life in our care. We shall pass on her comments about the food to our wonderful chef. It is always a pleasure to welcome you here when you visit your mum and to have you all as part of our fantastic Malden family.
My mother speaks highly of the home cooked food.
The daily activities are amazing and show great thoughtfulness, dedication and hard-work.
Malden has worked hard to ensure safe practice during a very difficult period of time.
The house has been very kind and patient with my father in helping him come to terms with the new family situation.
Social media and video calls have been great for helping the extended family stay connected with my mother.
I would highly recommend Malden as a home away from home.
We are so thrilled to read your review of Malden House. We delighted to have you all as part of our happy Malden family. We will continue helping to support your father at this challenging time. A quick note to say that the care shown to my mother on a recent visit was heart warming, to see her engage with the staff and appreciate what they are doing for her during these difficult conditions.
What lovely comments about Malden House. We are very happy to know how much you appreciate our support and care for your mother. It is our pleasure to have you as part of our Malden House family.
The experience I have with Malden House has been faultless, the manager and her team work tirelessly to look after all their residents. I could not have found a better home for my wife, who has Alzheimer's.
Malden House also cared for my mother a few years ago with the same high level of care.
Thank you very much for your wonderful review of Malden House. It is our pleasure to look after your wife and to have cared for your mother. We shall share your fantastic comments with all our amazing Malden team so they know how much you appreciate everything they do for your wife and you.
After looking round many homes, I chose Malden because it is small enough to function as a caring family. I have not been disappointed. All the staff take an active interest in the residents and enhance their lives. Cinema, farm and shopping visits, are just a few of my dear husband’s recent outings. I am especially thankful for the time we have spent together in the beautiful garden and summerhouse. Good relationships are established easily with the staff and someone is always there to answer the phone. Well done Malden, you are doing a wonderful job in caring for our loved ones in a friendly home environment.
What fantastic comments about Malden House. Thank you for choosing us to care for your husband. We are delighted to seeing him enjoying all our different, exciting activities. We are one big happy family at Malden House and we are very glad you are both part of it. We shall share your lovely words with all our Malden team.
Very impressed with the personal care that my mother receives. She is treated with love and affection, likewise, great care and consideration is shown to my dad when he visits. The home has a relaxed atmosphere and its grounds are very peaceful.
Thank you for your lovely review of Malden House. It is our pleasure to care for your mother, who is so loved by all of us and to welcome your dad when he comes to visit her. We are so glad to have you all as part of our special Malden House family.
I have been made to feel very welcome and enjoy being in Malden, just as my mother has done since she came to live there. A good indication of the skills all staff demonstrates and the general feel of the ‘Malden’ environment.
Thank you very much for your superb review of Malden House. We are delighted to have you here as a volunteer, and to care for your mother. It has been a very challenging time for all of us but we are so grateful for all the support and assistance you have given us over the past year.
Malden House is situated in lovely surroundings with a nice garden with flowers beds and lawns. There are useful facilities in the garden, including a summer house where one can meet up with the residents. The activities and entertainment for everyone in the house are very inclusive and the staff are always caring and helpful. Chiropody, hairdressing and personal health is also very good. The atmosphere generally at Malden House is welcoming, happy and very caring.
Thank you very much for your wonderful words about Malden House. It is our pleasure to look after your husband at our lovely care home. We are so fortunate to have our useful garden facilities, and also the many other services we can offer our ladies and gentlemen. We love seeing everyone joining...
The home is scrupulously clean and welcoming with lovely outside space for us to use on family visits or for Mum to enjoy herself.
The food looks delicious and the activities many and various to suit the needs of individuals.
Her room is a lovely sactuary cosy in winter and light and airy through the summer.
Top marks to everyone who makes Malden House the jewel amongst care homes.
Thank you.
What wonderful words about Malden House. We love having your mum in our care as part of our very special Malden family. We are delighted you are so pleased with the way in which we look after her at our lovely care home. We shall ensure all the team see your super review so that they all know how much you appreciate everything they are doing for your mum.
My dad went into Malden House in January 2021 suffering with Vascular Dementia.
Initially, he perked up, enjoying being fed regularly, putting on weight, joining in activities and having some company and being cared for.
Sadly, his physical health began to deteriorate very quickly and he passed away on June 28th.
From day 1, the team at Malden were fantastic, bearing in mind the Covid restrictions in place at the time and all the additional challenges that came with that. Throughout I was kept in regular contact regarding his wellbeing.
The way they got to know my dad, (who could be quite a challenge when he wanted to be!!) and care for him to the end was wonderful. I'm an only child and live in Lancashire, Mum died 5 years ago, so to know he was being looked after so well was a huge relief.
The overall standard of care provided by the whole team is exceptional and I can't recommend them highly enough.
Thank you so much for your very kind words about Malden House. We were so proud to care for your dad. We all learned such a lot from him as his own personal career background was in health and social care. We shall all miss him and we are so grateful that you trusted us to look after him.
It has taken a while to write this, mainly because it is hard to put into words just how amazing the staff at Malden House are. Even though my husband was only there a short while, the care and compassion he was shown was immense. The staff were such a support to our family in such difficult times and in Covid times. Nothing was too much trouble. Our every need was looked after, always with kindness and generosity.
I really want to thank each and every member of staff for their support. Their welcoming friendliness and the fact that they always remembered our names will stay with me forever.
Thank you all so, so much.
What a wonderful review of Malden House. Thank you so much for your fantastic comments about the care and compassion our superb team there showed your husband, and the support your family received from them. We shall ensure that every one of them sees your review so that they know how much you appreciated their friendliness, kindness and generosity.
The care is second to none in my opinion.
The activities are first class and are an important part of giving residents an active participation in daily life. Whatever their ability, there is always something offered to stimulate their well being.
I am very happy to feel that my mother is being cared for in the safest of hands.
What lovely words about Malden House. It is our pleasure to care for your mother and we are so delighted that you appreciate the way we are looking after and supporting her. We are a very busy and active family, and we like to ensure everybody has something interesting to do here every day. Our Malden team will be thrilled with your kind comments and we shall ensure all of them see your review.
My mother-in-law has now been in this nursing home for almost eight months after living with my wife and I for over 20 years. As you can imagine we were very concerned for her to receive the same level of care and attention that she had when living with us. We needn't have worried. The amount of care that she receives is excellent and we are so pleased that she is living there. The friendly staff, from top to bottom, obviously take a real interest in the welfare of their residents and look after them exceptionally well. Although our visits have been and still are restricted owing to these most difficult of times we can rest easy knowing that she is in extremely capable hands.
Thank you so much for your lovely review of Malden House. It is our pleasure to look after your mother-in-law and we are very pleased to have her, you and your wife as members of our Malden family. We look forward to welcoming you both here on a more regular basis when it is safe to do so. We shall...
My dad was a resident of Malden House for over 3 years. From the start, we were impressed by the welcome we received, the friendly atmosphere and the individual care and time taken by the lovely staff. Dad who was 96 at the time, settled happily into his new home, made friends, enjoyed the many activities provided, took part in everything and led a full life. Dad loved to sit in the huge conservatory, where he was able to look out, see the trees, the coming and going of people in the forecourt and still feel part of the world. He also liked walking around, seeing what was happening and above all, visiting the beautiful garden. When my mum and I made our regular visits to see him, we felt part of the family too. The staff were friendly and caring. They took an interest in his background and achievements and treated him with respect. There were regular reviews of Dad's progress and they always kept us in touch. I cannot praise Malden House enough. We definitely made the right choice.
Thank you so much for your lovely review of Malden House. It was our pleasure to care for your dad and have you all as part of our very special family here. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful garden and special places like our conservatory which our residents love. We shall share your wonderful words with all our team who helped to care for your dad.
Without exception the staff are terrific and they all know each and every resident which is very reassuring.
There is a lovely large garden with views out to the hills and beyond which is very well used and much loved by my parents.
Food is freshly prepared and plentiful.
We were very lucky to find Malden House and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

It is our pleasure to care for them, and we are so glad they love their glorious surroundings here in South Devon. We shall...
Malden House and all the staff have become my Dad’s extended family - although not blood relatives, he has been welcomed and cared for in a generous and wonderful way. Dad feels very much part of the home and its daily life. We, as his birth family, could not be more relieved and happy with Malden House and the team, and thank them all for their diligence and hard work during this current pandemic. It is very much appreciated.
Thank you so much for your review and feedback. It's lovely to read your comments about your dad and how much a part of the home and family he is. Thank you for your wonderful comments about our lovely team at Malden too, we will make sure we share your feedback with them which we know they will appreciate.
After more than 20 years of living with family, my grandma needed 24-hour care and so unfortunately we had to find a nursing home for her. This was really difficult, especially in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. From the first conversation I had with the staff to arrange the placement, I felt very reassured that she would be in good hands and be safe. They were really interested to know all about my grandma, her interests, her routine, her likes, her dislikes and her history. The whole process was very well organised from start to finish. Since then, we have been regularly updated. She has settled in really well and every staff member I have spoken to has been lovely and knowledgeable. I have visited her in the visitor bubble several times and she is really happy. She looks well looked after, clean and always smiling. Halloween and bonfire night there looked brilliant! We can't thank them enough, highly recommend it! Special thanks to the whole team.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review Malden House. We are so pleased to hear you felt reassured and that your grandma is safe and in good hands and to hear how happy she is living with us at Malden too. We will share your feedback with our lovely team at Malden who we know will really appreciate your kind thoughts.
My wife, whom I have cared for 24/7 for the best part of ten years, deteriorated toward the end of January. I was able to get respite for three weeks in February. My wife has been coming on a Monday for daycare for several years. After a bout of diarrhoea and sickness, she became very weak and I was unable to cope. I have found over the years Malden House to be a most happy home, with a very caring staff every day. The food is very good with lots of choice. The rooms are always spotless. The front door is answered in good time. Security is very efficient.
What wonderful words about Malden House. Thank you so much for your very kind comments and we are delighted you are so happy with our facilities. We are always here and happy to help if you need us.
The level of care, consideration and respect is above anything we have experienced before. I would say the care at Malden House has halted her slide into mental 'shut-down' and brought her back to us, to a point where we have a mutually enjoyable meaningful interaction.
We are now even happy when leaving after a visit knowing she is content and in safe hands.
What lovely comments. How wonderful that your mother-in-law is enjoying her life at Malden House and that you have seen such a positive transformation taking place since she came into our care.

Meet the Team (2)

Originally from Devon, I returned after spending 25 years living in Canada. A large focus of my career has been in senior operations in luxury hotels and then transitioned and trained into Social care and Retirement living sector. I love mentoring and coaching teams. I find that working with our residents and supporting their lives is very fulfilling. I am proud of each team I work with and bringing all aspects of the home together to create a wonderful home for our residents with exceptional care.
Hartford Care is a progressive company that I wanted to be part of. It holds values that resonate with me personally. I am pleased to lead the team at Maldon House which is a CQC ‘outstanding’ home. When I first came to Malden House I was met with warmth, laughter and a truly vibrant community. There are endless activities and engagement with the team is so prevalent. I have already enjoyed getting to know the residents and team. It is lovely being part of the Sidmouth Community which is very supportive of Malden House.

My name is Gabrielle, but better known as Gabby. I have worked in care since 1992 and can honestly say I have enjoyed many parts of this rewarding profession.
I have performed many roles and each one has brought different things to the table. It has meant that I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for so many people from different walks of life, different characters and different concerns.
I have worked at Malden House for thirteen years. I feel honoured that I have reached the point where I can support as Deputy Manager alongside Tabitha our Manager.
We understand what a difficult transition it is for elderly people, some with dementia to move into a care setting but this extends to the families too. We aim to support all.
I feel privileged to work in such a caring home and I feel honoured to share the experiences and lives of our ladies and gentlemen who have done so much for us and even the country as a whole.
