Malden House is a truly elegant country residence that is steeped in period charm yet filled with warmth and understanding. The original house, which dates back to 1820, has been thoughtfully re-designed, and recently extended, incorporating many original features to provide a safe, appealing and comfortable home for its residents.

Located in the picturesque coastal town of Sidmouth in East Devon, Malden House nestles comfortably in the beautiful countryside and lies within a short walk of the sandstone cliffs of the Sid Valley. A fully-trained, compassionate and caring team has created an exceptional residential care home equipped with 29 bedrooms and spaces inside and out to enjoy both companionship and privacy.

Residents can relax in the communal areas, enjoy all inclusive homemade meals in the dining rooms or enjoy the fresh air in the gardens. Video calling is also available to keep up to date with friends and family along with an all inclusive laundry service.

I visit my husband every day from his lunchtime onwards - except on the occasional day when I have to visit hospital for treatment. My poor dear husband is declining in health - his legs are getting weaker - some days now I havw to wheel him from his room to the main room in a wheelchair. When it is
time for me to leave my husband he clings to me and most often cries and pleads with me to 'take him home'. Breaks my heart.

From the time my wife was admitted to Malden House March 2015 until she passed away, both myself and the family were very comforted that she was in a loving and caring home. We were kept fully informed of care plans, district nurse visits and every aspect of her care. The deterioration in her condition
was handled with extreme care and love.

My mum has been at Malden House for several years in which time she has been well looked after. She suffers from dementia, so she seems to know who I am, but sometimes not, but she is always smiling and says she is very happy here.

The manager asked us in for a review of my mother-in-laws care and needs. We've done this several times before, and they have always been very kind and respectful. My husband and I try to visit as often as possible and we are always welcomed very well by whoever is working, even when they don't know
us.

I find the individual carer's attitudes to my grandmother and other residents to be at all time professional but also friendly, loving and caring.
Their advice can always be called upon and the extra activities for supporting the family of those being cared for is exemplary, such as the dementia evenings
which are a huge help.
The manager Aga is thorough, diligent and caring and she leads a group of staff who seem to be able to smile and work through all situations, who always have time to help, assist and advise.
My nan is very happy at the home and it gives me great comfort to know that she is being looked after by Aga and her team.

Malden House always welcome relatives to visit, whatever the time. All the staff were very patient and caring. They treated mum with dignity and respect allowing her choices of whether to join in activities or keep to herself. As her health deteriorated they kept the relatives well informed and kept
updating her care plan. Last week as she neared the end they showed great care and carried out her death wishes! This sensitivity proved very helpful. Malden is a happy home well managed. Mum was very content in her last years.

The resident became very ill both physically and mentally during her 18 month stay but maintained her dignity and comfort due to the exceptional quality of care provided. Residents are treated as people rather than problems. All staff are well versed in a residents individual needs. Communication with
relatives and support agencies is swift and effective. Staff are responsive to residents and relatives observations. Excellent written records are kept. Accommodation was always clean and smelled sweet. I have no criticisms to make.

Every visit the resident was clean and smartly dressed, whilst she was still able to join other residents. Once she was bedridden again she was well looked after and she was clean and comfortable. I felt quite happy the best was being done for her. The staff were always welcoming and had time to answer

My sister has only been in the home since 2nd September 2015. The staff have been very caring and helpful and I have been very impressed with the way they have settled my sister in the home. I recommended this home to a friend, and her mother has now joined my sister.

I have just spent a couple of days visiting a relative who is in "end of life" care at Malden House. I found her comfortable and obviously cared for. She was clean, the room was tidy and she had music playing in the background and the staff regularly tend to her care. The staff, and especially the acting
manager are all helpful, caring and responsive. I am very impressed with the high level of care and attention paid to residents and visitors at Malden House. I am very grateful to all of them for the high level of care they have given to my relative. Many thanks.

I visited the home on the 18th of November 2015 and spent time with my friend. I had a meeting with the manager with whom I was very impressed. The carers visited the room while I was with my friend and displayed a professional and caring approach. The home has a caring atmosphere, I feel they are doing
everything possible to keep my friend comfortable as she approaches the end of life.

I am Tabitha and I am the Registered Manager of our lovely home, Malden House.


Having been a member of the Malden and Hartford Care family for over 10 years, I have had the privilege of supporting the people who live in our home to live their best lives. Our residents are able to choose what they want to do each day and have support to fulfil their wildest dreams and wishes.


It is my passion to ensure everyone who enters our home is having a brilliant day and feels like a true part of our family.

My name is Gabrielle, but better known as Gabby. I have worked in care since 1992 and can honestly say I have enjoyed many parts of this rewarding profession.


I have performed many roles and each one has brought different things to the table. It has meant that I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for so many people from different walks of life, different characters and different concerns.


I have worked at Malden House for thirteen years. I feel honoured that I have reached the point where I can support as Deputy Manager alongside Tabitha our Manager.


We understand what a difficult transition it is for elderly people, some with dementia to move into a care setting but this extends to the families too. We aim to support all.


I feel privileged to work in such a caring home and I feel honoured to share the experiences and lives of our ladies and gentlemen who have done so much for us and even the country as a whole.
