She is becoming far less mobile than she was a year ago. She is forgetting more stuff and is chairbound. I think the residents would all benefit from daily chair-based exercises - arms, legs, neck, back - to strengthen and aid circulation and mobility. The staff are kind and helpful.

Hello Elizabeth B. Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback in relation to your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at The Manor in Exminster. I note your comments with regards to your friend's declining mental and physical condition. In all of our homes we offer a full schedule of activities, these include mobility based events - some specifically mobility-focused and others where mobility is a secondary benefit i.e. gardening, games etc. We also encourage residents to be as independent as possible and will encourage them to walk, carry out personal care etc themselves as far as it is safe to do so. We are also, of course, in regular contact with outside care professionals in relation to all of our residents' care needs. If you have any particular concerns please do, of course, speak to our Care Home Manager and we may be able to update the bespoke care package. Good afternoon, Thank you so much for sharing this very honest account of your experience when faced with the situation where your wife needed to move into a care home. Every year / day thousands of people experience the same feelings of anxiety when their personal circumstances change such that they or a loved on need the help and support that is provided in a 24 hour residential care setting. I speak to lots of residents and their loved ones in our care homes and many tell me of very similar circumstances - in particular the one where they say 'we should not have worried, I / my loved one is so much happier and healthier now he / she is here...' In all cases this successful transition is 90% plus down to the hard work, dedication and professionalism of care teams - and our team at The Manor are no exception to that rule. Only a brief visit but first impressions were good. A member of staff opening the door to me was welcoming and polite. I was shown to my friend's room by another member of staff who was also very pleasant. Residents watching TV all seemed settled. The surroundings are all clean and tidy.

I have been asked to write a review of my experiences of visiting a friend in The Manor and can only say that, although I am only allowed to visit once per week, I can see that the residents are very well cared for as has been the case for years. I believe the residents are entertained each afternoon as they should be and, from appearances, all residents appear well dressed and well groomed. The friend I visit, mainly because of mobility problems, prefers to stay in her room on the first floor rather than go downstairs and mingle with others. However, no matter how much staff members may try, she won't be moved! Probably a fear of moving via a wheelchair to the stairlift and back onto a wheelchair again! However, when I visit, my friend is usually in a good mood and although quite a quiet person, I get her to chat a little about things going on in the house so I am informed of any ''goss'' going the rounds!

Good morning Mathew, thank you for leaving this really positive feedback with regards to your experience, and that of your friend, with the care team and care home at The Manor in Exminster. I note the comment ref 'only allowed to visit once per week' - that is likely a Covid 19 precaution. All of our residents at The Manor will be offered their Spring Covid 19 booster next week. Three weeks after that, in order for the vaccine to take full effect, we will be greatly relaxing visiting restrictions - as well as removing the need to wear face masks in the home.
