I visited this home when it became apparent that my Uncle needed more care. I immediately felt comfortable with the place, staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. My Uncle has been there since April and he is looking happier and healthier than I have seen him for a long time.
The staff are friendly
and although I'm sure very busy, they always have time to listen to any concerns or anything you need to pass on. When there was an "incident" with another resident, it was handled really well and I was called immediately to be informed of all that had happened.

My mother has been resident here for the last six weeks. Even before she arrived I visited and immediately felt comfortable that she would be well cared for and indeed she is! The staff are all brilliant! All my mum's care needs are catered for above and beyond and the staff are all keen to encourage
and involve themselves with ongoing social interaction too. Can't recommend Oaklands highly enough! Wonderful place. Thank you.

My mother has been a resident since June 2017, she is cared for with respect, dignity, kindness and affection. She has advanced dementia an has many medical needs. At times she uncooperative and abusive. The staff never take offence or treat her any differently. I can honestly state that she has wonderful
care, support and company and I cannot praise this establishment or the staff any higher - marvellous.

My mother has been in Oaklands since June and my brother and I have been very impressed with the care she receives. Everything is done for her and she always looks clean, smart and very happy. The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they have a fantastic rapport with my mother
and the other residents. It is good to know that my mother is being so well looked after following a period during which she was very poorly.

My father and stepmother have both been in Oaklands Care Home for several months. Unfortunately, my father passed away in April, and the home handled everything very kindly and efficiently. I am very happy in the way in which they are now looking after my stepmother and would have no difficulty in recommending
Oaklands to anyone else in the future.

My mother moved in when living at home with daily carers was not suitable. She was registered blind and had poor hearing.

The care she had while here was of a very high standard. Also, the treatment from the staff, when she became less mobile and not interested in joining in with other residents,

was also of a high standard. They understood her problems. She died in the middle of the night and the carer, doctor and myself were present. They were all very helpful to me and Mum at this time.

You never felt awkward visiting no matter what the time was. Staff were always friendly and
helpful and welcoming you could always find something to talk to if necessary. Mum always looked clean and tidy and had her hair done weekly. Food always seemed reasonable, sitting room, dining area and kitchen
open and bright. Owners were often around, friendly and helpful. My mum was very happy here.

I fund the home clean, bright and with a good atmosphere, with staff being very friendly, cheerful and caring.
The management are always happy to answer any questions and concerns I may have.
The food is of a good variety and standard and residents are frequently asked if they desire drinks or snacks.

I cannot fault the care that mum received whilst she was living at Oaklands. Moving into a care home is a very difficult time for everyone and all the staff put us at our ease and made us feel so welcome. As mum gradually became more ill, they increased the level of support and did everything they could
to make her comfortable. The carers were amazing and did everything they could to make her comfortable. Family and friends were always welcome and I spent a lot of time there with mum and I was never made to feel as though I was in the way. When mum passed away, the level of care that we received was incredible. They were kind and thoughtful and I can't speak highly enough of the way we were looked after. Right from the first meeting, the manager introduced us to everyone and nothing was hidden.

Thank you all for the care of our mother in her life and after. Everyone works so hard. I thank everyone for the last week, the staff took care of my mum for nearly 3 years, the care is second to none, the home is clean, the staff are friendly and very caring. All the people are happy which makes everyone
happy and now my mum has passed away I miss seeing everyone and as a carer myself I was proud to know the staff at Oaklands.
Thank you all for the Christmas plays and the singing!

My mother has been a resident at Oaklands for 10 months and has found it difficult to lose her independence. However, the management staff are very caring and try to help her in any way they can. There is always a calm atmosphere when you walk in and the home smells clean and sweet. If I ever have a
query a member of staff is quick to offer help.

Since my mum has been at Oaklands, which is just over 3yrs, she has been well cared for, she is happy there and although she does suffer from depression and short term memory loss, staff are kind and very patient.
It's clean and well managed, they take on board any suggestions you might have and do
their best to improve.
In the past 3 years, the home has been decorated and the owners are improving care and surroundings all the time. Management and staff are easy to approach and are very friendly.

My mother went to Oaklands for respite care following a second TIA. It was a very emotional and scary time for us. From her first day all the management have been wonderful. You can feel the family caring feeling as soon as you walk in. The care to residents is second to none delivered in a very professional
but compassionate way. Mum is so happy she has decided to become a permanent resident.

My mother was very happy and extremely happy at Oakland's. We live 200 miles away and it was never a problem to talk to staff or my mother and we were always confident that she was in the best possible hands. The proprietors were very helpful and supportive with funeral and other arrangements when my
mother died in November 2014.

Always found staff to be friendly and very helpful. My mother did a few weeks respite in this home and when it came to her needing more care than I could provide it was nice for her to go somewhere she knew and I had peace of mind she was safe and would be well cared for.

My husband became a resident on 13th June 2015. He was well, mobile but had Alzheimer's/dementia. He suffered from frequent UTI's which did affect him at those times. Unfortunately he developed a chest infection (suspended) so was immediately checked by paramedics and transferred to hospital where he
died about 4 hours later on September 27th 2014. Oaklands took action as soon as he showed signs of deterioration.

The care home was run and managed very well. The management and staff were always very kind, caring and had time to be with residents when needed. My step-mother was always kept very clean and tidy. The meals were sufficient, tea, coffee, biscuits and cake were always served in the morning and afternoon
and also offered to visitors. It would be nice to have more activities, but we know this is not always possible. The rooms were small but always kept neat, tidy and clean. When my step-mother and her partner went into the care home there wasn't a double room available, but the manager kindly arranged rooms next to each other so they could be as close as possible. The palliative care given to my step-mother was very good and all of the staff helped to keep her as comfortable as they could and looked after her very well. Also our doctor was involved and was very kind and helpful.

I am fully happy with the service that is given at Oaklands for my mother, who has been there almost 3 years now aged 99 and has dementia. The manager and staff are really caring and most helpful in all aspects.

Dad has been at Oaklands for 3 years and in that time here has been a huge turnover of staff so the continuity and bond is not there. The laundry aspect of the care he receives is poor, with his clothes being shoved into his drawers and wardrobe and sometimes not even his clothes are in his room but
someone else's. The food provided is cheap cakes and biscuits and the main meals are not nutritional. Dad is a fussy eater these days but with a little help and coaxing he would eat better. There are some difficulties obtaining information about his general health from staff and also contacting his GP when the need arises.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.200)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.200) out of 10 for Oaklands Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Oaklands Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (11 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 11 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.2 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaklands Residential Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.2

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
