Harbour Rise has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. As we live over 200 miles away, we greatly appreciate updates on our relative from the excellent management team. All the staff are to be commended for their caring attitude and respect give to residents. Great care is taken to ensure the contentment
and security of all. Overall, a number one establishment and one we would highly recommend.

Very welcoming and friendly home. My mother never wanted to go into a home, but she has settled well and joins in with the activities. Staff are very caring towards the residents. They all seem to enjoy their work.

Every member of staff whenever I visit are cheerful, polite and friendly and take the time to talk to you.
They cannot do enough to make dads stay as good as possible.
It has made such a difference to me to know dad is safe 24 hours a day. The cost was a shock but a hotel can cost £120 a night. The
staff have said that dad's presence has helped the atmosphere of the home for the better so for us it's good value all round.
I can, will and do recommend Harbour Rise with confidence that all residents are treated with respect and care.

The level of care my husband received during the month spent at Harbour Rise was of the highest order. The patience of the staff towards very difficult and vulnerable people was very impressive. The management were knowledgeable and efficient and responded promptly to all requests.

Since last September, this has been my home. I have Parkinson's and needed to be looked after. I am extremely happy here. All the staff are so helpful and kind. The food is excellent with a good choice. We get entertainment a couple of times a week and some of us get taken out on trips, if we are able
to move a little. The home is cosy and bright and I would recommend it to anyone.

On the two occasions, I have visited my friend I have been made to feel very welcome and provided with coffee and cake. Everything is beautifully clean, well decorated and there are no odours often associated with homes.
But my overall my opinion is of a high standard, well organised accommodation.

My mother became a full-time resident at the end of May, prior to two day's care, I cannot rate this home enough, from management to cleaners, it is a pleasure to visit. Everyone is so friendly. They take the more able out in the mini-bus, which they love. They have just had a summer fayre which was
attended by many families catering for all ages. My mother is looking so much better and loves being in the home.

This care home is absolutely fantastic, clean with happy residents. The staff are always happy and most caring: they really seem to enjoy working there. Visitors are made most welcome and usually offered tea or coffee and quite often cake can be found after lunch time. My elderly neighbour who suffers
from dementia is truly happy there and has not got a bad thing to say about the place - and neither have I.

Harbour Rise is a lovely clean home and the staff are friendly and treat the residents with respect. Mum has dementia and was quite frail when she went into Harbour Rise in November 2018 since then I have seen such improvement not just in mum's health but now she is happy and call Harbour Rise "home".
It is reassuring to know that mum is now safe and well cared for.

It is very difficult making the decision to put one's elderly parent into a residential home.
As soon as we visited Harbour Rise (2014) we felt optimistic. The manager was so helpful and welcoming and as well as answering all our queries it was obvious that he cared about the home. The rooms were light,
clean and warm and in spite of considerable building work in progress there was a lovely atmosphere throughout.
Mum spent over four years at Harbour Rise and she was very happy there. In her own words "I couldn't be in a nicer place" and "I'm waited on hand and foot".
There are so many positive things to say about Harbour Rise but for me the top three are;
The staff are fantastic.
The residents are treated with kindness and respect.
Relatives are made to feel welcome.
Everything else is a bonus but these aspects were evident whenever we visited. My husband and I live a considerable distance away and I can't overstate how reassuring this was.

My mother, who has memory loss but is otherwise still lively and active, has now been at Harbour Rise for a few weeks, and has settled in well. The team - staff and management - have encouraged her in socialising with team members and the other more active residents, and helped her well in coping with
feelings of losing her independence. The team are always cheerful and happy, and never too busy to chat. The home (internally a bit of a warren, having been converted from two former sea-side guest houses) is warm and very clean, and always kept tidy even at weekends. My mother likes the food, and appreciates the choices. Her room has modern and up-to-date furnishings, and fine views of Torbay, looking out over roof-tops.
My mother was ill over Christmas, with a nasty chest infection. A doctor (from the same practice that mother had been with before she moved to the home) came promptly, and the extra care that the staff gave at a very busy time was excellent and much appreciated.

Harbour Rise has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The home has all the facilities that my Mum requires. In the short time she has been there she has enjoyed the outings and entertainment tha the management has laid on. I find the staff polite, friendly and always willing to help. There
is a good choice of menu that caters for the residents and family. Tea an dcoffee arealways vailable. The grounds are mainly laid to lawn with various seating areas, some of which have sea views which the residents enjoy in the summer. Many thanks to the owners.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.971)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.971) out of 10 for Harbour Rise is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 52 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.971 for Harbour Rise is calculated as follows: ( (596 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 614 Ratings = 4.971
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Harbour Rise is based on 52 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 52 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, I’m Julia! I joined Harbour Rise in August 2021, having previously managed an Outstanding-rated homecare company and then transitioning to managing Residential Care several years ago. I’m dedicated to providing high-quality care and enjoy taking a proactive approach in my work. I love spending time with the wonderful people at Harbour Rise, listening to their stories, and ensuring that their care aligns with their wishes and what matters most to them. Originally from a fishing town in Southern Ireland, I’ve always lived near the sea, and being by the water never fails to make me feel happy and calm, so working at Harbour Rise feels like a perfect fit. I love spending time with my husband, our three daughters, and our two wonderful grandchildren. I relax by reading, especially historical novels, and good mystery stories, and if I can listen to my book whilst walking along by the sea, then that is even better!

Although I was born and educated in France (Angers University) and Yorkshire (Hull University), I have now spent more time living in the UK than in France! I have been the joint director and owner of Harbour Rise since 2007, working very closely with my husband Mark, who was born in Marldon, Paignton. Working at Harbour Rise gives me a real sense of achievement as I love to be involved in a team of passionate and dedicated staff who give nothing but their best to our lovely residents.

I am also the very proud mother of three lovely and lively boys. Football seems to be the main thing we talk about at home, so in my spare time I love to go out with friends, go shopping and prepare a nice meal for all of us to enjoy! If I can, I also love to turn my phone off and get stuck into a great book!

I was born in Paignton, and although I worked in finance in London for 20 years, I was delighted to return to Devon to raise my family of 3 boys and further develop and improve Harbour Rise.

We have owned Harbour Rise since 2007, and as well as caring for many wonderful residents, we have transformed the home from 22 to 44 bedrooms, and I believe there is not an inch that we have not renovated or improved! I love the warmth and atmosphere of the home. Although the care industry can be stressful, I enjoy seeing our staff and residents looking happy and thriving – this is our biggest achievement.

Outside of work, I love to be busy with water sports, cycling and of course football! Watching my sons play football is my favourite part of the weekend, as well as watching Arsenal and Plymouth Argyle.
I enjoy a glass of red wine in the winter and a pastis in the summer, love to spend time off in France, where I still try to improve my French.

Hello, I’m Laura! I have had the pleasure of working at Harbour Rise for the past 20 years, during which I’ve taken on a variety of roles, gaining a wealth of experience and knowledge along the way. For just over a year now, I’ve been providing managerial support, a role I find both engaging and rewarding.

Outside of work, I’m a proud mother of three wonderful children who bring immense joy to my life. Our family has recently grown with the addition of Bertie, our beautiful Cockapoo puppy, who has quickly become a beloved member of our household.

In my free time, I love spending quality moments with family and friends, going for walks, and diving into a good book.

I started my career in 1998, working in the laundry at Harbour Rise. Over the years, I’ve taken on many different roles and eventually became Head of Care when Mark and Cecile took over the business in 2007. I’ve seen many changes to the home and feel privileged to have been part of its journey. One job I’ll never do, though, is drive the bus—driving’s not exactly my favourite hobby.

When I first started, I was young, free, and single. During my time here, I met and married my husband, Ken, and we now have one son who is an adult. I love getting to know our residents and their families, and I truly believe Harbour Rise is one big family.

Outside of work, I have a busy social life. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going on trips, and attending concerts—especially Take That. I also love going for walks, especially when there’s a nice pub at the end for a relaxing lunch!
