What can you say about the wonderful care home that my best friend who is lucky to live in, that goes by the name Widecombe House, in Torquay.
After vetting many care homes for my wonderful friend, i was happy to be put in contact with the owner of Widecombe House.
Never have i met such a caring genuine
professional, that has with the help of his equally caring professional staff, over the past 7 years, have kept my best friend safe, well and above all happy.
My best friend has had everything you could wish for from garden parties, country singers, animal petting visits, even a visit from a Shetland pony visiting the home.
There is a genuine feeling of love in the home.
Widecombe House is spotless, I've witnessed carpet cleaning and my best friends room is always spotless.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about Widecombe House, they are one in a million and recommend them to anyone.
Thank you for looking after my best friend and for making his life so full and happy,

Thank you Widecombe House for taking care of my friend of 20 years+
I have seen him grow everyday with confidence and quite honestly never seen him so happy.
I often arrive unannounced at Widecombe House, and on many occasions seen my friend singing with the care staff, and enjoying another happy
day.
I cannot put into words how frightened I was originally about him living in a care home, but I should not have worried. He is honestly so very happy.
I see staff interaction with all residents, amazing, it's like one happy family.
On occasions when it's lunch time, I cannot believe the standard of food served. I always leave there hungry after seeing the meals served in the spotlessly clean dining room.
The peace of mind Widecombe House gives me when I leave my friend is always appreciated.
I know he's looked after, cared for, happy and above all safe.

My friend has been a resident at Widecombe House since he recovered from a tragic brain injury, which left him unable to look after himself anymore. The staff at the home are excellent with him; he is very well looked after, and their care and consideration for all his needs have helped him to improve
his mobility and confidence. Tim feels happy and safe and enjoys helping whenever he can. I cannot speak highly enough for the friendly atmosphere that is evident at Widecombe House, along with the helpful staff and carers

Family relative initially give a respite placement here and long story short, has stayed here permanently.

From the moment she arrived, she and we as her family were welcomed by all the staff without hesitation.

Our family member and we have been fully supported since she arrived and we have been

impressed with the care she has received.

There are numerous activities organized for the residents and regular events in which families are included such as garden parties and fireworks nights.

Family member is diabetic and her blood sugar levels are now under control which they were not when she arrived. Dentist and optician etc appointments are arranged by the staff which is helpful.

Management of the home are available to speak to whenever needed and highly supportive of families.

We are always warmly welcomed whenever we visit.

We count ourselves lucky that our family member was given this placement originally and are very happy with her care at Widecombe House.

Thank you to all

I cannot praise this care home highly enough. My precious mum has lived at Widecombe for over 2 years. The staff are professional respectful dedicated and most of all kind. Mum had been in other care homes before but Widecombe House offers a higher standard of care and dignity. The house is always welcoming,
quiet and calm exactly the right atmosphere for loved ones who deserve only the best of care. Thank you to all Widecombe House staff.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.466)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.466) out of 10 for Widecombe House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.966 for Widecombe House is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.966
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Widecombe House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 18 registered maximum number of service users is 3.6, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
