My uncle has received excellent care, the staff are friendly and welcoming, whenever I visit people are always popping into his room with small tasks to do. The food is well presented and appetising. I have and would recommend this care home.

My Grandmother moved to The Old Vicarage recently due to struggling at home and loneliness. Since being at The Old Vicarage she has gone from strength to strength, she is enjoying living again due to the hard work and dedication of all the staff. The staff have got to know her and are aware of what
she likes and doesn't like and they have worked with this, providing the care and stimulation that she wants. My Grandmother is respected and is cared for in a caring and dignified manner, she has complex care needs and this is addressed accordingly and in a way in which my Grandmother is happy with. The family are thrilled with the service that is provided at The Old Vicarage, we feel really rest assured that our loved one is happy and cared for.

My mother has been in this home for over 3 years now. She is suffering from dementia as are many of the residents. I have never seen any of them treated badly and all are treated with respect. Great effort is made to stimulate and provide entertainment. The gardens are a great pleasure for my mother.
I always feel listened to by the staff and they do their best act on any suggestions I make about her care.

I visited the care home during the Christmas period and from the onset, I was overwhelmed by the warm and friendly atmosphere which was present throughout the home. At the time I visited a Christmas event was held for the residents and their families. It was lovely to see the residents enjoying the
festive season, singing Christmas carols, having a visit from Santa Claus and tasting Christmas treats. The smiles on the residents' faces was a joy to see. I had a tour of the care home and the clean and comfortable surroundings, as well as the professionalism of the staff, did not go unnoticed. It was evident that nothing was too much of an effort for the staff. I was informed that events are held regularly for the residents, their families and the locals which I thought was absolutely excellent!

My mother is deliriously happy at The Old Vicarage.

My only comment is that there a lot of staff (a good thing) but its not at all clear who does what. Job titles etc are professional terms which are not intuitive to a lay person. A clear staff structure chart would be helpful.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.612)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.612) out of 10 for The Old Vicarage Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.712 for The Old Vicarage Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 184 Ratings = 4.712
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

I've worked in care for over 30 years. My training includes courses on independence, management and palliative care.
What I enjoy the most about my job is meeting new people who come to live with us and their families. It's all about making sure they feel part of our community, having a natter, and really listening to what they want and need. I make sure everyone gets a say in how things are run here, keep everyone in the loop about any changes, and always have a kettle on for visitors.

``I decided to work at The Old Vicarage as I live locally and the hours fitted with my children at the time, and that was in 2007. I don’t have a particular favourite time of day. I like it when the morning is over, knowing residents have been attended to and had their needs met.``
