The staff at Watersmead provide excellent care for the residents, they are friendly and approachable and have a genuine affection for the people in their care.
The home is well furnished and clean and the meals provided are varied and well cooked.
There is a variety of activities for the residents
to join in with and there is always something to celebrate whether it be tennis or Christmas.
Visitors are made welcome and there are opportunities to join residents for special days.

I can't say enough about the staff and how well they treat my mother. I have seen a total change in my mum from the time she arrived at Watersmead. My mum is happier than I have seen her in a long while.
She hadn't been happy in the family home nor was she in a place of safety. It was always my intention
to get her into a care home for her well-being.
Watersmead tick all the boxes in looking after my mother.
Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at WatersmeadI'm so glad to hear that your mum is so happy with us at Watersmead and that it's been the best decision for your family. It's great to hear that she is thriving. I'll pass on your comments to the team as I know they love to hear them, and we appreciate you taking the time to write us a review.

My father has been a resident at Watersmead Care Home for over three years. He has told me that he has his own room which he can return to if he wants his own company but in general he would usually be found in one of the communal areas, sometimes taking part in the activities which are very varied.
The
activities in the past have included some singers and guitar players and last year there was a small selection of farm animals which could be seen close up. There were also lots of in-house activities such as baking, gardening, indoor skittles, scrabble or puzzle afternoons.
The staff are and have always been very tremendous, always very helpful answering any question even though they have been asked the same thing previously.
Reply from Freya Higgs, Marketing Administrator at WatersmeadThank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I am delighted to hear that your father is enjoying getting involved in different elements of the home, especially the activities. I will share this with our team, who will really appreciate your kind words.

My grandmother is clearly very happy here.
As a family, we are reassured by the fact that she is safe, looked after with dignity and settled.
She especially likes

My mother has been a resident at your care home for over two years. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the way she has been treated with great kindness and wonderful care. Yesterday she celebrated her 101st birthday, the home made the day so special. I have always been contacted promptly
about any concerns about my mother's health or wellbeing. It has given me great piece of mind to know my mother is so well looked after.

At Watersmead all members of staff are caring and respectful towards residents. The atmosphere is usually light and cheery. The dining room/communal area is bright and airy and a good place to sit, chat, snooze or enjoy activities. Circular corridors, around the home, are ideal for residents who wander
- and during the warmer months, the courtyard garden offers further space to roam. I've not personally sampled the food but from what I have seen, there appears to be a good choice of tasty food on offer. In addition, there are always snacks, fruit and drinks available. The resident cats are a welcome sight and I'm sure bring pleasure to the residents. I'm aware that my aunt enjoys seeing and petting them. My aunt's room is always clean and tidy and her clothes are respectfully tidied away. My aunt always appears clean and tidy too and she enjoys her regular sessions at the in-house hair salon.
Reply from Rowen Campbell, Regional Marketing Manager at WatersmeadThank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I will pass on your comments to the Watersmead team - it does make a difference to them to hear such kind words. Glad your aunt is happy there.

I have high regard for the people I have met at Watersmead and the care that has been provided for my mother. Communication is really good and I feel she is in very good hands. I have found that my mother's well-being has improved. She has gained weight back to normal levels benefiting from all the
good food on offer. Her appearance is more how she used to be and she seems at ease now. I am really pleased with everything. Thank you for all you do.

My husband has been a permanent resident at Watersmead since May 2022 and has always told me how kind all the staff are and he is quite happy with his room. He also tells me that the food is good with plenty of variety. There are always activities going on in the large recreational/dining room and he
has been taken out to a local event with a group of other residents. The atmosphere of the Home as soon as you walk in is good, friendly and bustling as the residents and staff move freely around the corridors. This drew me to decide on Watersmead for him as it felt more like a personal home than an institution. The residents are encouraged to personalise their room so that they feel that it belongs to them. If I have any queries or concerns regarding my husband they are taken seriously and the appropriate head of the department comes to discuss it with me. I and the rest of my family are very satisfied with the care and understanding of everyone concerned making my husband's life happy.

My father needed to be cared for as we had simply reached the endpoint of him being at home, so he came to Watersmead. Besides being a very emotional time, Watersmead were brilliant at helping with all the unknowns, but more importantly, their provision of the specialist care he needed. Respite turned
into a permanent residence. The staff really make the place worth the investment and we feel fortunate to have located my father at Watersmead.

During my late mother's 17-month stay at Watersmead, she was very happy, well-loved and cared for by all the lovely members of staff.
Mum was treated with the greatest respect at all times.
Every time we visited Mum, we could see how happy she was and what a great rapport she had with the staff members.
As
a family we cannot thank them enough for the care they all provided for our dear mum.
During her final days not only did they show great compassion for Mum but also to me.
I would have no hesitation to recommend Watersmead to anyone looking for a care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.698)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.698) out of 10 for Watersmead is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 48 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 48 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.698 for Watersmead is calculated as follows: ( (412 Excellents x 5) + (142 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 567 Ratings = 4.698
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Watersmead is based on 48 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 48 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
