Review from Andrew G (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 11 January 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My father-in-law arrived at the Laverstock Care Centre in December 2020.
The customer care manager made both my wife and I feel very welcome from the outset. This was very important to us since with understandable Covid restrictions in place, we were sensibly unable to go inside the home.
Through the use of WhatsApp video, we have since virtually met a number of the nursing staff, who without exception, have all been very friendly and caring. It is apparent that my father-in-law appears comfortable and cared for at all times and is reassured to be looked after by the Laverstock team.
Nothing has been too much trouble for the staff, with particular care being taken of the small things, which are of comfort to the family looking on, such as finding frames for photos, when the family are unable to enter the home to do so themselves.

So in all, we are delighted with the welcome and care provided at Laverstock and are looking forward to the day when we can meet everyone without facemasks!

Since our Auntie moved into Laverstock she has been cared for extremely well, she recently had a stay in hospital but on her return, she was made to feel at home again. All of her nurses and carers are fantastic with her and she really feels at home. I can’t recommend Laverstock enough. We as a family are happy in the knowledge she is well cared for and we do not have to worry about her any more.

Overall Experience
Grandad has been at Laverstock for about six months, and every time I visit, I'm really impressed. He is always clean and well presented, as is his room and all of the communal areas. There are 80 rooms, yet any staff we meet can direct us to his just from his name. Everyone knows Grandad well; the gentleman who brought his lunch today said: "I know you won't be too interested in the main so I'll bring an extra big pudding!". He was right, and it's a lovely touch and really helps to make sure he gets enough nutrition.
If it's a short visit, staff won't interrupt us for his cares; if they need to they do everything efficiently without sacrificing standards.

The activity program is excellent and varied. Longue and dining areas are like being in a nice hotel, and touches like realistic toy cats to brush are lovely for some. Some residents on his floor have challenging behaviours, which are managed really well to minimise disruption to neighbours while maintaining dignity. Top-notch care.

My father in law is a current resident and has been for the past year, so my review relates to the last 12 months.

Parkinson's is a very challenging and demanding condition and we have always found that Dad is comfortable, supported and kept safe. The management and staff are to be congratulated because Dad's care needs are both medical and non medical, and as the condition has progressed, they have met Dad's changing needs while maintaining his dignity and respecting his right to decide things. The centre itself is clean, Dad's room has lovely views and is bright and spacious. We are due to see Dad over Christmas at the Centre. Dad will no doubt tell us he wants to come home, but this is not any criticism of the Centre because he always says he cannot fault the care he is receiving, and there is always a compliment about the food, it's his condition he doesn't want. So to all the staff at the centre, we wish you all the very best for the season and every success for 2020.

Review from B S (Cousin of Resident) published on 18 December 2018 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I care for the finances and general needs of my cousin who has been resident for the past 2+years. He tells me that the food is appalling (consistently not getting what he has asked for the previous day). The standard is sometimes inedible. I have had occasion to complain about the general cleanliness of his room, i.e. dirty carpets, an old, dirty chair (these things were immediately rectified by the newly assigned manager). He has been shouted at by a member of staff "stop ringing the bell'. The receptionist needs training in how to welcome visitors!

Reply from Kay Wainwright, Home Manager at Laverstock Care Centre

We are sorry when anyone has cause to complain but pleased to hear that things were were immediately put right. Our chef at Laverstock Care Centre is in regular contact with our residents to try and ensure that all dietary needs and preferences are met. Our manager’s door is always open to...

My father has been at Laverstock for 4 years and I want to congratulate his carers over that time.
His regular carers have been so kind and patient and now he has moved to another wing I would like to think his carers will also be with him.
It is key he has consistent carers he recognises.

Hopefully, management will work closely with staff to raise morale and enable them to carry on their valuable care.

Review from Nicki P (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 June 2018 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My father moved into Laverstock in March 2017 and has Alzheimer's, vascular dementia, and some challenging behaviours. The nurses and carers and all staff have taken time to get to know him. He is safe there and they strike a good balance between giving choice about when to go to bed vs offering him activities. They really care.

The activities team put so much thought into the residents' needs. Ranging from tea dances to Sunday hymns, to garden parties, fetes, carol services, baking, history talks, craft activities, a walk in the garden - carried out with dignity and respect. Plenty of lounges where you can go to have a change of scenery. The rooms are spacious, clean, and all en-suite.

I was saddened by the recent press article as it was not a true reflection of what we have experienced over the past 16 months at Laverstock.

Nowhere is perfect but I am confident that the Manager will improve things which do need improving e.g. staffing levels and retention.

My mother has been a resident since 2015. During that time I have seen her cared for with kindness, care and respect. Dementia is a very difficult condition to work with and I have seen patience and understanding given to her at all times she looks clean and healthy. The staff are friendly and caring to talk to and are proactive in giving updates.
Most seem to enjoy this difficult work.

Support staff and managers have also been approachable and helpful and I am a healthcare professional myself.

As the main carer of my mum who has complex health and "emotional" needs the decision to move her from my family home to a care home was one of the hardest I've ever made. It also turned out to be one of the best! Laverstock Care Centre, especially "Garden View" is a home from home. The staff are superb and have quite honestly given our family our lives back including mum!

My husband has been resident in this care home (dementia unit) for the past eighteen months and I could not be happier with his placement. The level of care is exemplary (I visit on a daily basis) and any concerns which may arise are dealt with immediately by staff and management. I rest easy knowing that he is loved, well cared for and secure.

The main Reception area is very welcoming and very spacious with plenty of seating available. There is plenty of information at hand on the facilities which are available. The staff at Reception are very informative and extremely polite and welcoming. The rooms are extremely spacious as are the bathrooms with a walk-in shower. Beds are comfortable and furniture well positioned. Staff are there at all times for residents' needs. Meals are of a high standard with a good choice. Good activities. From the management right through, an excellent place to reside in.

When looking for a home for my mum, we wanted to have a nice size room with a view, nice and sunny, which we have found here, as my mum spends most of her time in bed.

The staff are all very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. It's also not too far for my dad to get to, as he visits Mum every day and he gets looked after well with coffee and cake most days, so overall we are very happy.

After a fall at home followed by a spell in the hospital, it became clear that our mother could no longer live independently. This was the moment to find an alternative that provided the care and support Mum needed, whilst maintaining her quality of life. After looking at a number of options, we found Laverstock Care Centre. As a family, we were immediately struck by the care and professionalism of all the staff, the quality of the facilities and the happiness of the other residents. With no previous experience of the care sector, we were very anxious to ensure our mother moved into the best community we could find. We were immediately made to feel welcome and were sensitively guided through this significant transition. Mum took to her new surroundings immediately and is now thriving with the care and support she is receiving at Laverstock Care Centre. The quality of the meals, the range of activities and the ability to personalise her room have all helped to make our mother very happy and contented in her new home. She is enjoying her new lease on life! As a family, we are delighted we chose Laverstock Care Centre

My mother broke her femur and had to have bed rest for 13 weeks.
The whole team at Laverstock Care Centre Salisbury were superb in rising to challenges my mother faced.
On returning from a three day stay in hospital she received a very warm welcome back and said that she was pleased to be home!
Individual care support staff went above and beyond to make her life as comfortable as possible during this difficult time.
Although confined to her room, staff made every effort to talk to her; some staff visiting her in their breaks (whilst working on other floors in the home) and on occasions a carer was allocated to spend time with her in her room.
I know that this greatly helped to lessen any feeling of isolation and I have no doubt enabled her to recover in the way that she has.

I cannot thank all the care staff enough for their kindness and dedication.
