Overall Experience3.0 out of 5
Our experience of West Heath House was almost entirely during lockdown/out in 2020 March to November. The opportunity for a loved one to be accepted as an ABI was very welcome. At times I was humbled by the care given by and the dedication of some staff. The clinical psychologist was the most professional
person I had met on this journey. However, I was very rarely there to witness West Heath House's daily operation. I see that BIRT refers to itself as a business-to-business outfit; it subcontracts to the NHS. I have the feeling that it rubber stamps NHS clinical decisions. 'Rehabilitation' amounted to the nationally minimum recommended therapy inputs per week. Surely they could dig deeper. I felt my loved one was written off too early, maybe ten weeks after admission. She seems to be progressing in her current placement, a specialist ABI unit, in a way that West Heath House could not countenance. The management I found to be very brittle, unpleasant to deal with. Team leaders showed occasional kindness. The care staff is good and kind.
