My mom went to Netherton Green for rehabilitation after a fall. From the moment she arrived I received a phone call from a lovely nurse to let me know she was settled and happy. Every time I called the home to ask how my mom was the staff were well mannered and took the time to answer my questions, in particular the receptionist who was very patient and took the time to call me back if she didn’t know the answer to my questions. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see my mom as often as I would have liked due to covid but staff were always happy to hand me the washing and put away the clean washing whenever I came by and I was kept up to date with any changes. Mom couldn't fault the care staff although she did say that there wasn’t enough staff so they were run off their feet. Although they were clearly overworked, this didn’t reduce the amount of care and love they gave. From the receptionist, unit manager, care staff, nurses and cleaning staff, I couldn’t fault the care! Thank you all!
Thank you for your kind words, we are delighted that you were happy with the home, care and the team. I will ensure that your comments are passed on to the receptionist and the care team.
My mom was only in here for 24 hours and that was too long. She was admitted for rehab for a broken hip. It absolutely broke her spirit and she was desperate to get out. My dad brought her TV in so she had something to do and the television was never plugged in. During the night she was left for hours in soiled underwear. When she asked to be washed, one member of staff said to another, "Leave her until tomorrow." When she called for help, no one came to her. One member of staff came to her and then slammed the door on her when leaving. When the family came to visit, her water jug was empty, and she was sat in the heat, dripping with sweat with no fan! She also had a thigh dressing from surgery, which hadn't been changed.
The nurses were brilliant with updates, but the actual hands-on care was disgusting! My mom worked in care herself when younger, and even though she's ill, she could have done a better job herself. Would not recommend for rehabilitation.
Thank you for leaving your review. I am aware that a member of the team has been in contact with you in relation to your concerns. We will look into your individual concerns raised and provide you with a response, in accordance with our policy. Please be assured that we take all concerns raised seriously. Thank you in advance for your patience.
We visit every week. You have to book an appointment and have a test before you see your relative. When you have had the test you are made to wait a full 30 minutes before you can go ahead with the visit. I can deal with that but what I can not accept is when I arrive for my appointment on time, ring the buzzer then have to wait 30 minutes sometimes before a member of staff comes out to us.
I am very sorry that you experienced a delay during your recent visit. Whilst I am pleased to note that our colleagues are adhering to our strict Covid protocol I will speak with the Home Manager and Regional Director to ensure this issue is addressed promptly. Once again please accept my apologies.
My parents are receiving excellent care. I am kept fully informed by the staff, who are extremely caring. Professional and respectful of my parents as individuals.
Thank you for taking the time to review the care your parents are receiving, it is always a pleasure to receive your opinions and experience about the care and the service overall. I will share this with the team who will be extremely happy with your comments on the quality of care they deliver. I...
Not a bad experience, cannot give a full review as with COVID visits are limited and only started in March. But overall pleased, care seems good and food seems ok.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, it is greatly appreciated. We are happy that you have received good care and enjoyed the meals. Thank you for also noting the limited visiting was due to COVID guidelines which we have followed and we review this as the guidelines change. Once again Thank you.
Great staff. Really friendly and most importantly, they care. Mum really likes it here and will be sad to leave.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for the home and the staff your comments will be shared with the staff team, it is always nice to receive positive feedback, even through the current restrictions staff have remained positive and they will appreciate your comments.
The care is unbelievable, my mum hasn't looked this well for years. She says she's not been this happy in a long time. The room is always clean and tidy and by the looks of the food, I'd move in myself! The staff are always pleasant and helpful when you ask questions. The grounds are superb. I only have nothing but praise for the staff, food, accommodation and the grounds. 10/10, well done!
Thank you for leaving your feedback this is evident that the staff have demonstrated care and attention to the care of your mother Thank you.
Aspect of bungalows and grounds very well maintained. Car parking facilities good. Staff are friendly, approachable and kind. Residents and their accommodation are kept very clean. No nasty smells. Window visits were always available. Only one problem, Mom's twinsets all shrank in the dryer. Staff put up notice for me to wash them for which I was grateful.
Thank you for your kind comments I will ensure that your comments are shared with the staff team who cared for your mother, thank you once again.
My mom went to Netherton Green Care Home for respite care following surgery for a broken ankle. She was well cared for from day one until she died in February 2021. I cannot fault the care my mom and my family received. This all took place during a pandemic, but this did not alter the professionalism and care that was shown to mom. When she died, we were allowed time to be with Mom. Excellent care.
Many thanks for taking the time to review our home; it really is appreciated. It was our pleasure to care for your mum, and she is sadly missed by all at Netherton Green. I will, of course, pass on your kind words to the Netherton Green team.
My mom was admitted for rehabilitation from hospital, however, there was not a bed in the rehab unit and she was placed on the Primrose Unit. The staff were generally very caring towards my mom, however, she did not receive the physio/OT input which was promised prior to her admission. In addition, her nutritional needs were not met and she lost weight and became quite frail. I was able to visit her only through a window (which I accept is due to the COVID restrictions and no fault of Netherton Green) and therefore it was difficult to observe the deterioration. During her time at NG my Mom was admitted to hospital with an infection (not COVID). She was taken in an ambulance and the staff failed to send her mobile, purse or additional nightwear or underwear - she had only the nightwear she was wearing and they failed to inform the Paramedics that she was taking medication for cancer - the A&E department were very concerned about this.
Throughout my stay, I have received excellent care and attention. All the staff have been extremely kind and helpful and looked after me very well, always going that extra mile! Their attention has been above and beyond the call of duty. If there is a criticism, its that in some shifts there is not enough staff. Thank you all at Darby House for making my stay so comfortable.
Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. Your kind words are truly appreciated. I will of course pass on your comments to the manager and all at Netherton
Sadly his recurring bouts of aspirational pneumonia have meant that any attempts at rehab were not to be and the manager of the unit, set up the assessment for NHS CHC funding for him.
Sadly Covid19 needed this temporary placement extended yet the staff continued to show him wonderful love, compassion and commitment caring for him until his care package came through! Many staff have become real friends keeping in touch to see how he is getting on!
All staff, including housekeeping and activities staff, were great and helped keep him safe throughout the crisis caused by Covid.
In particular, I would like thank, the manager, for her unfailing support at this very stressful and difficult time, and for totally understanding the decision to move him closer to the family during this time. God bless you all!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback, we always appreciate feedback of any kind. I am happy to hear that your husband had a good experience whilst residing on Salt well House. I will share your positive feedback to the team and thank you for taking the time to write this review. It is always appreciated.
My friend was admitted as an emergency case. She was well looked after during the short time she was at Darby House. The staff was very helpful when contacted during her stay there. Sadly she died on April 23rd.
Thank you for leaving your feedback on the care delivery that your friend received during her stay on Darby. It is always really nice to hear your responses and I will take pleasure in sharing this with the team on Darby.
My Mom has resided at Netherton Green Nursing Home for nearly 13 years, and her care given has been excellent throughout. Staff have handled every stage of her dementia with care and understanding, and expert knowledge in this area. Staff have always been friendly and understanding of our family, and the diversity among us. I can't thank the staff enough for all they do for my Mom daily.
The majority of carers are very professional regarding the care and welfare they give. All nurses had the best interest of both resident and family. Some carers need to remember that the residents are human and should be transferred from chair/bed with more care. Overall as a family, we were very touched by how much our relative was loved and cared for by staff members.
We are very close friends of one of your residents and since he moved from Saltwells to Derby House he has settled in and speaks very highly of the care and attention he is receiving. We visit on a regular basis so we are able to see for ourselves how professional and caring the nursing staff are and we speak very highly of the care and support shown to all residents. We say a big thank you.
My mother has been here since September 2019 and has always been looked after very well. The staff are excellent and always do everything they can for her. They are always there when she needs them. The nurses are excellent, and I couldn't think of a better place her other than here.
Thank you for sharing such kind words about our team, I will pass on your review to them.
My mother has been here since September last year, and all the staff including nurses, have been kind, courteous and very helpful to Mom. They have looked after Mom very well and have gone beyond to do everything they can for her.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience of our team, I will happily pass on your review to them.
Service users left a long time to be taken to the toilet. Staff more interested in chatting than seeing to service users. Short-staffed is normally the excuse given for everything. Not enough physio given.
We are only too sorry to hear of your experience. We understand that your loved one is being supported on our house with NHS cover and support. We will pass on your feedback to their team.
I am very satisfied that my husband is in capable hands. I, myself, feel very comfortable and relaxed in the home.
Thank you for leaving your kind review, I will share this with the team. It is always really nice to share good feedback.

Meet the Team (4)

I joined the team at Netherton Green in June 2001 as a Care Assistant, roughly 18 months later I was successful in promotion to Senior Care Assistant which was a role I had for 16 years. For the last 3 and a half years I have worked in the Activities and Wellbeing team and was again successful in promotion to Senior Activity and Wellbeing Coordinator at the beginning of 2022. Being in the Activities team allows me to get to know the Residents and their families in a different way, being able to help them engage with and enable Residents to continue to do the things that they enjoy, really is what I love about my job.

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, I have gained extensive experience in providing care and support to elderly people, helping to enrich their lives. I am a knowledgeable and dedicated leader, passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and enhancing the quality of life for residents. I believe in offering kind and compassionate support while embracing a holistic approach to meet the individual needs of every resident.

My name is Karen Winmill, and I’ve been part of the Netherton Green family for 24 years. I first joined as a Carer before progressing to a Senior Carer role, and for the past nine years, I’ve proudly worked as the Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator.
I’ve always loved spending time with our residents — getting to know their stories, hobbies, and interests is what makes this role so special to me. I truly believe this job was made for me. I have a warm, bubbly personality and a great relationship with both residents and their families. I’m never afraid to make a fool of myself if it means making someone smile — our residents especially love seeing which costume I’ll be wearing next for our themed days!
I’m passionate about providing person-centred activities that bring joy, purpose, and fulfilment to every individual. From weekly Bingo sessions (which families love to join in with!) to one-to-one chats over a cuppa, shopping trips, pet therapy visits, intergenerational activities, and live entertainment — there’s always something going on to brighten everyone’s day.
Outside of work, I enjoy going on cruise holidays with my husband and spending quality time with my family. I also have a lifelong love of dance — I was a dance teacher for many years and even competed as a child — which certainly comes in handy for my role here at Netherton Green!

I have worked as an administrator for over 30 years, and I've worked as a domiciliary carer for years in the past. I joined Netherton Green in October 2025. It is a lovely home, it feels very homely, and everyone made me feel very welcome.
