Ross Court is a beautiful home surrounded by an acre of green gardens and mature woodland, situated just north of the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye. The home offers residential and respite care.

There are ensuite bedrooms, each one a tastefully decorated haven for residents where the staff provide the highest standards of care,

Ross Court was refurbished in 2023 and has two dining spaces, two lounges, libraries and a bar. There is also a garden with well-maintained walkways, a summer house and gazebo and raised vegetable beds.

Trained chefs prepare fresh, nutritious, and tasty meals to a daily menu. Residents can choose to eat either in the communal dining room or in their own bedrooms. Special diets will be catered for.

An activities coordinator plans a busy events schedule, with daily activities in the home and regular trips beyond it.

Ross Court suffers from being part of the Barchester Healthcare empire of more than 250 care homes that has an impersonal corporate culture with multiple layers of management. Barchester acquired it from a previous owner. Before the change of ownership, it was a friendly and happy place but the atmosphere
quickly deteriorated when Barchester arrived. The Manager resigned after 23 years’ service and since then there has been a procession of five different Managers. The turnover of care staff rapidly increased with the consequent deterioration in the quality of care.
My mother was a resident for over four years. For more than three years she had a landline phone in her room but Barchester decreed that they would no longer provide residents with phones and her phone was disconnected without warning. It was left to each resident to enter into a contract with a phone company of their choice to provide a phone.
When my mother passed away nobody represented Ross Court at her funeral.
Reply from Kirsten Smith, Customer Relationship Manager at Barchester Ross Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write your review regarding our Ross Court Care Home. Our sincere condolences on the passing of your mother, she was a much loved member of our home and she will be missed. We are sorry to read that you were not satisfied with the service you received, particularly in terms of the change in management, which we understand can be unsettling for the people we support. We are sorry that nobody from the home was able to attend your mother’s funeral, the team was very saddened by this, and this was due to the distance between the home and the location of the funeral, which the staff team were unable to travel to. We do hope you received the home’s floral tribute.

I wanted to praise the wonderful ‘nighttime carers’ (2 of whom were holding Mum’s hand when she slipped away) and all the ‘Ross Court Team’ for the care and compassion shown towards Mom especially during her last few days at Ross Court. Mom was treated with the utmost compassion, dignity and kindness.
Mom had lived at Ross Court for 12 months and really enjoyed interacting with Barchester colleagues including the House Keeping Team. One staff member made her laugh, and she had a real soft spot for two others. Although she didn’t eat very much, she always looked forward to the lovely meals at Ross Court which I sampled with her on a few occasions.
Although Mom’s funeral service was miles away it meant a lot to see staff at her Requiem Mass. Mom would have really liked that. I was also touched to receive the letter and card from a staff member.
We just wanted to say ‘thank you’ for everything.

Care home staff had made such an effort to make my aunt's 100th birthday a special occasion for her (and us), despite all the building work going on which meant that we had to use the main dining room instead of a private room for our tea party. A table has been laid for us in a corner of the room and
there were lovely decorations including balloons displaying '100'. A lovely cake had also been made. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff to help us have such a memorable afternoon. It was also lovely to see that the staff managed to involve other residents in the celebration by helping to share cake and drinks around.
Reply from Claire Brewer, Regional Director at Barchester Ross Court Care HomeWe are so glad that your aunt enjoyed her celebrations at such an important milestone alongside her family and friends at Ross Court. Please be assured this will be shared with the team.

I was welcomed into the care home by very friendly staff and soon settled in my room which has a view of trees from the window. All the staff are kind and caring, understanding and helpful. I enjoyed all the activities which I joined and was able to meet other residents. The meals were delicious and
varied and I enjoyed them. Thank you for a lovely stay and break - for myself and my daughter who looks after me at home.

Ross Court has been so welcoming from the moment my father 'checked in'. It has a light airy feel when you arrive in the building and the cleanliness of the rooms and all communal areas are faultless. The staff are absolutely wonderful and are at hand to help whenever needed. Everyone is so friendly!
My
father feels comfortable and looked after which provides me with peace of mind that is invaluable. I have been told on many occasions that the food is fab here and I can confirm that this is 100% true! Thank you!

Ross Court Care Home is an excellent care home, with wonderful caring staff. They go above and beyond and nothing is too much trouble. Including arranging lunch for mum with dad on her birthday. Lots of activities and fantastic events like their Hawaii tropical day.

All of the staff at Ross Court are very friendly and kind. The food is of a very high standard and Mum's 'garden room' is comfortable and cosy with a nice view. The entertainment organiser works very hard to provide interesting activities which Mum enjoys taking part in, within her capabilities.

After viewing numerous care homes, myslef and my siblings instantly took a liking to Ross Court. The detail that was given to us by one lady was fantastic. Mum is cared for 24/7, which is required (even if she doesn't think so), which gives all of us peace of mind. Being able to visit at will is absolutely
first-class service. Very pleased.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.744)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.744) out of 10 for Barchester Ross Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for Barchester Ross Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (285 Excellents x 5) + (66 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 363 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Ross Court Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
