Wolston Grange

Coalpit Lane, Lawford Heath, Rugby CV23 9HJ

Just down the road from the Wolston village and set amongst twenty acres of beautiful, English countryside is Wolston Grange; a long established, family owned and run residential home. Staff support individuals living with dementia or with mental health needs by providing short and long term stays, respite and day care.

Wolston Grange has been extensively remodelled to provide highly individualised support and personal care at all times in three specialised environments. Built in 2010, the Barns is a five-bedroom modern barn conversion providing support for young people with early-onset dementia. The staff pride themselves on knowing what a younger person with early-onset dementia needs and ensure a happy, welcoming and homely environment for all residents.

The Lodge is a 6-bedded area attached to the main home that provides support and encouragement with daily living tasks for young people with mental health needs. The Lodge has a devoted, multi-skilled team who have adopted a person-centred approach to care, adapting to residents' needs in a purpose built environment.

The Wolston Grange main house is a specialist care facility for elderly people living with dementia. It has 26 spacious rooms, specifically designed for maximum comfort and relaxation.

Wolston Grange’s scenic location lends itself nicely to plenty of green-fingered activities, with access to a lake for fishing, a crazy-golf course and an on-site vegetable allotment. The grounds and surrounding countryside are also home to an abundance of local wildlife.

Residents have a choice of comfortable, communal lounges where they can enjoy pursuing hobbies and interests or just simply relax. The home has a cake shop and a bar where residents enjoy catching up and socialising.

In the most recent (July 2015) Care Quality Commission report, Wolston Grange was rated 'Good'.

Overview

The Review Score of 8.6 (maximum of 10) for Wolston Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Wolston Grange in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.363 for Wolston Grange is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.363

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.263 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wolston Grange is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 7.8 positive Reviews (39 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 7.8 Target = 0.513

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.6 Wolston Grange has a Review Score of 8.6 (8.626) from 7 Reviews

I cannot thank the management and carers enough for looking after my dad. Their care and compassion was refreshing to see and all of the residents are cared for extremely well. Unfortunately dad died but it was such a comfort to me and mum that he was in good hands. Hats off to you all - and trust me I don't say that lightly!!!
I'm gonna miss visiting xx

Wolston Grange is a little isolated but this suited my Aunty who was born and bred in the country. She did not want or need a great deal of social interaction. Her needs were met and she was well treated. She had a good relationship with her carers.

I found my Aunty was well cared for and enjoyed the company of the staff. She also enjoyed the food. They cared for her in a very positive way through her illness until her death.

Informative during yearly review update is good.
Finding communication usually not so good, I never know arranged functions at Wolston Grange which would be good to support when I can.
It's very important to have an update on anything that concerns my sister, health, bumps etc.

You should be proud of the way your company operates it's care homes. The standard of care is superb. It is as though you have selected staff by psychometric test. They all have this same calm, caring way of dealing with their guests. Staff here at Wolston are very caring and seem to have time for every one of their guests. It is quality not quantity that shines through with Wolston. If you have the right people you provide the very best service. My wife's bedroom, the kitchen the day rooms were all of a superb standard, Thank you for caring for my wife.

Description:

My name is Amber Bond. I am registered manager of Wolston Grange.

I have been the manager for the past 5 years, first at Elmhurst Assisted Living and Care facility and then, following promotion, for 2 years at Wolston Grange Care Home.

During my childhood, my parents fostered people living with dementia and I grew up surrounded by older people and people living with dementia in my own home. I started working in care when I was 16 years old at a daycare facility at the weekends, and have since gone on to obtain my level 3 and level 5 diploma in Health and Social Care specifically following the Dementia Pathway.

I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of a larger home supporting people living with dementia and younger people with mental health needs. I am a very hands on manager and have high standards of care both for myself and my staff. I pride myself on being an approachable manager to staff and relatives alike.
