Mam has been here 2 weeks now on palliative care. Everything is done to ensure that she is comfortable, although not eating or drinking if she wants something we only have to ask. The rooms are an adequate size with en-suite, lovely and warm. The staff are excellent in whatever role they perform. There's
a lovely little cafe where we can get a drink and cake.

My Grandmother was with Ashfield Care Home, Heanor from May 2018 until she passed away on July 3rd 2018.
The staff and nurses were 100% in giving my Grandma the best care and attention anyone could wish for a parent or grandparent.

It was my auntie's 100th birthday and the staff at the care home put a lot of thought and care into giving my aunt a memorable and appropriate occasion. She began the day with a bed shower and haircut. The residents gathered to sing Happy Birthday and to open her card from the queen. At lunch, they
had her favourite fish and chip meal. Afterwards, some children were invited to read some poems. In the afternoon the family gathered to spend some time with my aunt. We listened to more poems, visited by the Mayor and had a delicious tea. The staff were brilliant and did everything possible to give my aunt a wonderful day. Thank you!

My mother has just celebrated her 100th birthday. She has been in Ashfields since April of this year.
The care and attention she has received since then has been superb.
The party celebration for her birthday was wonderful from start to finish.
My mother's comments were "It has been one of the
best days of my life". She does not suffer from Dementia and for her to say that I feel is the best accolade Ashfields could have.
We as a family are thankful that she is in such a wonderful place.

Dad was transferred from hospital to Ashfields for palliative care, unfortunately, he was only there a few days before he sadly passed away. He was treated with great dignity and care by a very dedicated team of nursing staff and carers, nothing was too much trouble. Family that visited him were also
treated with much compassion and understanding. Ashfields is a very clean and bright place, the individual bedrooms were light and airy.

I have been visiting relatives and friends in this home for over seven years and found everyone and the care very good. So much so that I recommended this place often and I myself feel at home when visiting and would ask to stay here if it becomes necessary.

I have had 3 relatives resident at Ashfields, my Mother and Father-in-law and my Dad. We moved Dad to Ashfields having seen the excellent care for my in-laws. The Nursing and care staff were wonderful and looked after all three with dignity, patience, care and compassion, that I haven’t experienced
anywhere else. Nothing was ever too much trouble, even if they were busy. They took the time to get to know each of them personally and always wanted the best for them. The activity coordinators are brilliant, putting so much energy and enthusiasm into creating activities that are relevant, imaginative and appropriate to the Residents. The staff cared for us as relatives too, particularly during their end of life care. It made a difficult time so much easier. The Manager and the office staff are all just as involved with the residents as the carers, which made it feel like you were part of a family. Ashfields is a unique and very special care home which I would highly recommend.

Our father had a fall in another home resulting in him going into hospital with a fracture. He had a number of serious illnesses. We were told dad had limited time left and was told that we needed to find a nursing home. By word of mouth, we were told about Ashfields Care Home. This nursing home took
in dad and thank god they did. We did not want him going back to the previous home. From day one this home was warm, friendly and all the staff are warm and friendly. We just wish dad had been there from April 2017. This nursing home should be a flagship to CQC.

I cannot praise the staff enough; the care, love and attention they gave my Grandma was so special.
In her final days they helped us so much, emotionally and physically, they couldn’t do enough for us.
I would highly recommend Ashfields to anyone looking to put their loved ones in a trusted place...I
cannot thank them enough for their amazing care and warmth.

I would like to thank all staff involved in the care of my mother during her final months of life. I would especially like to thank everyone for the care she received during the last week of life. We were both looked after by all concerned. I was made to feel not just welcome but like family at this
very difficult time.

My mum was not just cared for she was cared about and loved by the staff. We could not have received better care anywhere else. From housekeeping staff, kitchen staff, carers, nurses and management, nothing was too much trouble. This really is an incredible home, full of love and care for everyone who needs it.

Mum entered Ashfields Care Home in July 2015 and although she has to be fed and is hoisted out of bed for only one hour per day for dinner, the very professional care staff understand mums needs and keep her comfortable and contented. She qualifies for 24-hour nursing care and the resident nurses are
thoroughly professional. In the 2 1/2 years, of residents, virtually bed bound, she has never had a bed sore testimony again to the care administered. There are daily activities and entertainment for those who unlike mum can participate. A tablet electronic flagging system for 24-hour routine care, and new nurse call system, are excellent. You never encounter an unpleasant odour which is testimony to the cleaning staff. The food is excellent, the management and staff are always willing to answer any queries we may have and there are regular resident and relative meetings which are held by the home manager who informs on any developments either presently or due in the future.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.854)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.854) out of 10 for Ashfields Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.854 for Ashfields Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (412 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 465 Ratings = 4.854
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashfields Care Home is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
