Reviews

9.5 St John's Care Home has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.545)

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for St John's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St John's Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.545 for St John's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (118 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.545

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered beds. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered beds has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St John's Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.2 positive Reviews (56 registered beds ÷ 5). 12 Reviews ÷ 11.2 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

It's sad to see my grandfather as he is but knowing and witnessing him happy, warm and well cared for makes it all that much easier.
I'd certainly recommend St Johns to anyone who had a loved one that needed caring for.

My Father has been a resident for 20 months. All the staff and management team should be highly commended.
The care and support for an elderly person is a difficult task for any family to deal with and St Johns have removed the worry and stresses this can cause.
All the elderly residents we have witnessed at St John's are treated with respect and their individual needs catered for.
It's great to know my father is in safe hands.
Many thanks from all our family goes to everyone at St John's for the continued, professional and caring attitude, you are special people to provide the care you do.

On the whole, I'm very pleased with the care my mother receives at St John's Care Home. Occasionally there is an episode which raises concern but that is due more to possessions and personal items than care and attention of my mother. I know she is well fed and cared for and that is most important.

My mother has received good care from the St John's Care Home and has received very responsive care when it has been needed. I have also been very happy to have had excellent communication between myself and the facility which is very important to me as I live half way around the world and cannot visit my mother on any regular basis. It is very comforting to me to have them keep me well informed when needed. I have even received photos and videos of Mum's birthday and Christmas celebrations at the home so I can see firsthand how she has spent her day at these celebratory times in her life.
I am comforted by St Johns' care of my mother and can rest easy knowing she is in good care.

The Staff at St John's Care Home go above & beyond what is expected of them, they are all very helpful, friendly, approachable and kind. I was very apprehensive when my Mother had to move to a care home, but I have no worries now, she has been at St John's since April 2016 and just recently my stepfather who was also a resident, sadly passed away, the staff could not have been more caring and supportive through this very difficult time.

Management and staff are very approachable and easy to talk to, they are very good with my mother who sometimes can be very difficult when she wants to be. The home itself is kept very clean and smart if anything wants to repair it is done on the day that it's reported, nothing is to much trouble for any of the staff.

My friend entered your establishment on 9th June from the hospital and was examined by your doctor and placed on "end of life" treatment and as such a very confused old lady was treated with gentle rest and compassion. In the 5 months she took to pass away my wife and I visited him 2/3 times a week and were always treated with kindness from management and staff. My friend's care and compassion was of the best! The home is run very well its standard of cleanliness is above reproach, as an eighty-six year old if needed I would wish to end up with you.

My mother was in St John's for 14 weeks, initially in an IL basis. She was in a leg brace and could not have managed at home. The care she received from both the home and the Independent Living Team was excellent. My only suggestion would be, it would be beneficial to those in her position to have a small lounge/sitting room where tea/coffee could be made and be able to socialise for those without dementia. If all care homes were run like St John's there would be no need to worry about the care of our elderly population. Well done to all the staff, keep up the good work.

A very friendly, caring and professional residential home. From what I have seen nothing is too much trouble for the staff who always make time for residents and relatives alike. The accommodation is immaculate and I have no concerns about my mother being kept clean and tidy too. Activities are good and the food is also. I like the addition of a set weekly menu. Keep up the good work and standards St Johns.

Hi I’m Steve and I am one of the Wellbeing and Activity Coordinators at St John’s Care Home in Spalding. I have 2 lovely boys named Callum and Kieran, as well as my wonderful partner Veronika. In the past I have lived and worked in Australia. I also had some time living and working in London. I have also travelled to many parts of the world and been on many adventures. My previous work has been a Warden for the Council, this entailed checking on the elderly in their homes and reporting any problems. I also ran the community centre for the residents, they loved the entertainment I put on, as well as giving them the extra time to stop and chat to them; not just a flying visit like some other wardens. When I left the warden’s job because of cut backs in the council, the residents were very upset to lose me, some of them in tears, a very sad moment for me and them. Before that I worked with troubled teenagers in various care homes all over the county for 6 years. I enjoyed this job and worked up to be a senior member of staff. I helped to change some of the lives of the teenagers and put them back on the right road to life. However, I currently enjoy my job at St John’s the most. Having worked at St John’s for 2 years now, it feels like a second home to me. Everyone there is fantastic and we are like a big family.

We are focused on providing our residents, especially those with dementia, with 'meaningful activities and opportunities'. In order to provide residents with activities they are going to enjoy and engage with it's really important to get to know them and learn about what they enjoy doing.

I was employed as a civil servant for both the Ministry of Defence and HMRC for 25 years. Due to staff cuts in 2014, I decided to take a voluntary exit package. I joined St John's in October 2014 as their administrator. I was able to bring a lot of my transferable skills to the role from the civil service. I have fitted in well with the environment. My 20 years of Samaritan Voluntary has also helped me to fit into the role. I have found the role both challenging and awarding. I enjoy a good working relationship with the Manager Anna, staff and residents. I look forward to my role evolving in the future.

Hi I am Georgina Exposito (50). I started working at St John’s 12th July 2012 as a housekeeper. To be quite honest when the manager at the time asked me to do care work I did not know how I felt as I had never done this kind of work before.
And....I loved it and soon became a full time care worker. To top it all I was nominated for Care Home Worker Award and I won the Regional East Midlands area.
I was very proud and honoured to win this award.
I have two children Aimee 24 and Toby 22 who are equally proud of my award, as well as my mother, family, friends and everyone at St John’s.
