Overall Experience
My mother was 92 years old and a resident of Russell Green Care Home from April until December 2021. My mother had lost the use of her legs and so had to be transferred via a hoist.

Basic care at the home was satisfactory. My mother was clean, although at times her hair looked greasy and a bit flat. If I could not get through to my mother on her mobile staff were always obliging in putting me through to her on the home phone. When my mother’s appetite plummeted carers worked hard encouraging her to eat and kept her out of hospital. Suggestions were made by the family to the care manager but not always acted upon. Amongst others, these included my mother sitting out in the garden and a TV to be set up in her room especially latterly when she stopped reading the paper. Due to a misunderstanding, my brother and I were informed by the home that our mother would need to be transferred to another home. This caused my brother and myself considerable stress trying to resolve the matter until my mother’s residency was confirmed.

Mum, who has Alzheimer's has been at the home for 3 months and before that attended daycare. The home is very clean and has a lovely feel, the food is delicious and varied, and there is a beautiful enclosed garden for everyone to enjoy. There is a wide range of activities to suit everyone. All the staff are helpful, kind and caring. The manager and deputy are fantastic, they are always on hand and willing to help and advise or just listen and nothing is ever too much trouble. It is very reassuring to know that mum is safe, happy and well cared for. An amazing home.

My mother aged 97 has been a resident of Russell Green for two years. She enjoys the company, food and activities. They have a nice garden n which she enjoys walking. She looks much healthier now than she did before she went into residential care. I have a good relationship with the managers and carers in the home and the staffing levels and personnel are unchanged despite the challenges faced in the sector generally. I would definitely recommend this care home as my mum's quality of life has improved a good deal since she first arrived there.

My father has been a resident for just over three years now and settled in well due to the welcoming, caring and dedicated staff. As time has progressed, so has he. He is very well cared for, both physically and mentally, and is well stimulated with the activities, both communal and those focussed to his personal interests. He enjoys the 'banter' and is very much at home.
In better weather, (and particularly during the pandemic and visiting restrictions) the garden is a great joy for him and he uses the summerhouse and gazebo to survey the plants and often shares the benefit of his gardening experience with others!
I have regular meetings with the manager who keeps our family well informed and updated which is very welcome.

The care and devotion of the staff is superb and I, and my father and family, are very grateful and feel very lucky that he is cared for here.

Our widowed mother went into Russell Green during the pandemic due to worsening dementia and took time to settle but thoroughly enjoyed the final year of her life surrounded by genuinely caring staff in a family atmosphere. Mum joined in all of the very varied activities, benefited from regular food/medicine and loved the company of staff/residents. The garden is a great asset in the warmer months and made full use of.

Friendly and caring staff and management are willing to discuss issues and are very flexible and helpful for things such as hair appointments etc. Lots of appropriate activities which provide a stimulating experience for residents. The building is a home from home and very clean and tidy but not clinical.

Close to the village centre so able to take mum out for walks for a change of scenery. The gardens are beautiful. All the staff are aware of mum's special needs.

Russell Green care home were great with my grandmother who had Alzheimer’s and sadly passed away in December 2021. The care was wonderful, the staff were patient and friendly and my granny felt very much at home. Meals were superb, fresh, and home-cooked. Activities were great with singing, gentle exercise and trips to the cinema. I would recommend this care home to any family.

Thank you.

Must concur with all the positive reviews. I will keep it brief. My mother was lucky enough to secure a place in this wonderful, caring establishment and has now been a resident for a couple of months.
She is happy, cared for, and contented. All of the caring team are superb. (Genuinely).

Many thanks.

After having several dealings with care homes I thought I would write a review of Russell Green Care Home in Woodhall Spa. The quality of care in the home is exceptional and it has a wonderful homely feel, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and cheerful. During lockdown the dedicated staff have provided the residents with a clean, comfortable, safe, loving environment, giving the best care possible. All the residents' needs are met with dignity, compassion and respect. The devotion of the manager who goes above and beyond, giving the most outstanding care possible, nothing is ever too much trouble and the well-being of the residents always comes first, offering family members reassurance during these difficult times. Keeping family members up to date with the health and welfare of their loved ones, she is always at the end of a phone day or night if needed and I would most definitely recommend this care home

My sister in law spent 13 months at this care home suffering from memory loss/Alzheimer’s.
From the day she arrived until decease, she was treated as a member of a loving and caring family.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, particularly when items of jewellery were lost or mislaid (a frequent occurrence).
I shudder to think how many times her hearing aid got “lost”. The food was excellent and provided a wide choice.

The home kept in regular touch, updating us as and when required.

My mother has been a resident for nearly two years. We have found that a high standard of quality of care is provided by staff, who are very caring and supportive. The home is very convivial and as regular visitors (before Coronovirus restrictions), it is evident that the residents are well looked after in a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere which has continued during the lockdown.
Events are well informed to us, i.e. newsletter and also notice boards with 'what's on'. We can ring anytime, to speak with the manager and staff.
I am thankful that Mother is in such a caring home, particularly in these difficult times.

The beautiful garden and summer house is used daily in what is a lovely secure environment.

In April 2019 we moved my mother to Russell Green after moving to Woodhall Spa ourselves earlier in the year.
Although it was a worrying time for both Mum and ourselves as she was suffering from dementia, the decision was made easier as her elder sister was already living there very happily.
From the moment Mum moved in, the professionalism of nursing, love and care was exemplary, and the manager and her team were an absolute credit, showing great tenderness right to Mum's very peaceful end at the ripe old age of 97.
It helped the family so much knowing that Mum was in such good hands.

Our very grateful thanks.

I cannot speak highly enough about this superb care home, and it's wonderful highly dedicated and caring staff. My mother-in-law has been in this home for four years, and in all that time, the care, love and attention to her needs have been outstanding.
I have always been welcomed with open arms during my regular weekly visits (pre - virus), and even now, when I cannot visit, the home keeps me updated on my mother-in-law's condition. She has been looked after so well in a very clean and inviting environment with superb food and a wide choice of food as my mother's request.

The staff work tremendously hard with a smile and patience, and I know that my mother-in-law is very happy and contented at Russell Green. I would have no hesitation in recommending this outstanding facility to my friends. It is very reassuring for me to know that my mother-in-law is a resident of such a wonderful place.

We have a long association with the home and the staff feel like members of our family. They are always welcoming when we visit and during the present COVID-19 crisis they have been exceptional. Keeping us up to date with developments and providing first-class care for everyone. Having closed the home to visitors two weeks before the national lockdown they ensured the safety of all resident sand staff.

We brought my mam here for a 2-week respite with a view to full-time residency. She had been diagnosed with dementia a couple of years back, however, things had progressed and she had had a couple of falls, was losing weight fast and generally not looking after herself. Within a month she was beginning to look brighter and putting weight on. She has been there for around four months and the difference in her is amazing, she is singing and dancing, laughing and helping.

This residence is a hotel for the elderly, not a home. The staff are all welcoming, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The residents get to go to the Kinema, have singers, musicians, local school children to visit and much much more.

Moving a family member into a care home is a daunting experience. However, Russell Green is a gem where care means CARE!
This is a real 'home' for the residents where they are made most welcome in a family atmosphere. The staff treat all the residents as individuals and get to know everybody really well.
There is freedom for the residents to partake of all the local events outside the home, within their capabilities.

Birthdays are a special time for every resident and they are celebrated by the residents, staff and family with a party, with all the trimmings, cake, party food, balloons etc.

Russell Green care home. This is more like a small Boutique Hotel than a care home. Situated in a quiet tree-lined avenue 5 mins from the centre of Woodhall Spa. The home encompasses beautiful well kept gardens with an abundance of wildlife. Inside the home is also beautiful and exceptionally clean. The care afforded to the residents by the care team and managers is outstanding and above excellent. The difference is they care! The food is excellent.

Our father had Parkinson's disease and dementia and was cared for by Russell Green on a variety of levels. Initially, we used the facility that allowed hot food to be delivered to the home. The service was prompt and efficient and the staff member always had time for a chat and a check on the welfare of both of our parents. In addition, our father began to attend the home twice a week for daycare. We were extremely happy with the standard of care that he received. He particularly enjoyed the exercise class on a Thursday. A period of full-time respite care led to full-time care for the final weeks of our father’s life. During these weeks our family was warmly welcomed at each visit and we were kept extremely well informed about our father’s health by the efficient and passionate management team. At all times, our father was treated with dignity, compassion and respect by the staff. Russell Green continues to support our mother and we value the support that they have given to our family.

My father spent the last 8 weeks of his life at Russell Green as his health declined rapidly and as we found it increasingly difficult to care for him at home. At all times I found the team at RG extremely professional, friendly, welcoming, caring and responsive to Dad's complex needs, even organising special equipment in his room to make his life more comfortable. They were in constant contact with our family whenever the need arose, either by 'phone or by email, and we always felt that we could visit Dad at any time and share mealtimes with him. As this is a small care home the staff know their residents very well and aim to respond to their individual needs in a family environment. Medication, balanced meals and liquids are administered efficiently. The sensory garden is a beautiful outdoor space for the more mobile residents. The regular programme of activities and events keep the residents stimulated and motivated.

Russell Green provided a daily meals service for two years, and a full residential service for seven months, until my stepfather's death. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of service provided. In particular, the ability to anticipate and adapt to his changing needs as his condition deteriorated, was very impressive. Communication with our family was first class throughout and the facilities at the home were excellent. What struck me most was the level of care delivered by all the staff. People talk about going the extra mile to provide a high-quality service, but in my view, the staff at Russell Green completed several marathons in providing brilliant end of life care for a man who was lucky to end his days at this Care Home.
