Westlands Care Home is a residential and dementia care facility located in Wellingborough. It is set up to be particularly ideal for people who have developed dementia.

There are calmly decorated bedrooms in muted tones at Westlands, three social areas and an enclosed garden, making for a homely atmosphere that assists staff in carrying out expert care.

Residents have access to a wet room, shower rooms within the building and home-cooked meals are served up daily (with the odd fish and chip supper!)

All laundry is catered for and bedrooms are cleaned daily by housekeeping. Westlands aim is to provide a safe, secure environment that you can call home.

The privately run home also accepts local funded clients with an expected top up fee in addition to the Expected Pay Rate (EPR) which will be discussed with the manager during viewing.

My mother was a recent resident at Westlands. I would just like to say thank you to all the staff, team leaders and management team for the wonderful care my mum received. I cannot fault them on their professionalism, patience and care. All the staff were so caring and polite. Special thanks to the
manager and two other staff members who welcomed Mum on the very first day she arrived and were her constant contacts. I am so deeply grateful to them.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeGarry, It was an absolute honour, Mum will be missed. She was a character, gave us a good 'run for our money' and as honest as the day is long. She was our diamond. It was a great pleasure to have been part of your family and share good and not-so-good times. We hope you will be able to find some comfort in visiting when you feel up to it. Thank you

The patience, kindness and understanding shown to my mother has been excellent. She was moved to Westlands for assessment and was very unhappy being so far away from home, family and friends but the staff made every effort to try to make her temporary stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I
felt that she was in safe hands and was well cared for.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeBrenda, it was lovely to work with you and Mum to get her back local so her friends and family can keep in regular contact. I know the move has been difficult for her, but am sure she will settle in as well as she did with us. Ebony enjoyed the bag of treats you left for her.

My husband spent two weeks in Westlands for respite care whilst I was recovering from a surgical procedure. The care from all members of staff was excellent and he enjoyed the meals provided. The registered manager and two other staff members in particular were always helpful and more than willing to
talk through any concerns I had when I telephoned. I would not hesitate to recommend Westlands to others looking for care for their relatives.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeVal - it was a pleasure to look after your husband and meet you and your family. It was a difficult decision, but much needed for him to access respite and I know he faced some challenges but hopefully he has settled back home well. Thank you, Manager & Team.

Westlands is a smaller care home and a listed building. (So limitations on facilities) The staff, management, carers, kitchen staff, cleaners and laundry are all very friendly and helpful at this care home.
The food is fresh and sometimes they have a meal choice as the main meal of the day. Rooms are
cleaned every day. The atmosphere in Westlands is like one big happy family.

Dad had his last few months in Westlands. I have knowledge of the care home system via my work. The home is a small friendly and homely environment. The staff are cheerful, know all the residents well and provide a happy, homely atmosphere. The food is plentiful and tasty. Some homes are very posh looking
and have high-quality fittings, but if the care isn’t good then that is a shame. Westlands isn’t the most stylish of homes in looks but the care which is the most important thing is very good.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeThank you, I think you have described us to a 'T', we do have a challenge to match up to the 'posh' ones in the environment but as you say - all about the care. Thank you, The Manager & The Team.

Every time I've entered Westlands, to visit my mum, I've been greeted by friendly, approachable, and helpful staff. The home itself is always warm, clean, and tidy, and also, the whole staff (from manager to cook) relates well to the residents and is reflected in the overall atmosphere of the home.
A lovely place to stay.

My dad has been at Westlands for nearly a year and has been well supported in settling and has a good rapport with the manager and the staff. They have transferred him to a new GP and had him assessed in a timely manner. He is now settled and happy and I am confident he is safe and cared for.

Although my pap's stay at Westlands was relatively short, I cannot express enough my gratitude for the staff at Westlands.
On the surface, one would look at this care home and think nothing of it. However, this could not be further from the truth. Every single member of staff took special interest
in my pap and every other resident in the home, often times I would come to visit to find one of the members of staff (one in particular comes to mind!) sitting with my pap. Moreover, the staff are extremely patient, a skill that is certainly required when dealing with my pap! Whether it be management or staff, my pap's basic and more specific needs were taken care of and at no point did I feel that he was being left there without his needs being met, with respect being at the forefront.
Finally, I would like to highlight how great the team were during my pap's rapidly declining health and consequent end of life care. Every decision was made professionally and with the family in mind. Thank you.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeThank you for the heartfelt words, this extends to your whole family. Pap was a lovely man to care for, even when he was grumpy! He was so thankful and apologetic. His time with us was short, but gave us an enormous insight to his life and to you all as a family. All staff enjoyed caring for him, but he did have his favourites.

My mother-in-law has been in Westlands Care Home for 4 months after she had a fall at home.
The staff there have all been marvellous to her, caring, and patient. Encouraging her to do more, trying to build up her confidence. The care is to a high standard. Looking after her daily needs. The food has
been very good.
The staff are all so lovely and obliging, always responding to the call bell.
Her clothes are washed and returned regularly. Had access to a hairdresser and chiropodist too.
Everywhere is clean thanks to the lovely cleaners.
The manager. Wow, I can see why the team are so good with her being in charge. Good manager great team.
Well done to every single one of you.
Thank you very much once again.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeThank you so much - the team are fantastic and I definitely cannot take the praise, they love their job and care from their heart. Mum was a diamond and we are so glad she flourished to be able to go back home.

Mum has been a resident since February 2022 and I cannot fault the care, kindness, empathy, time and dedication from all the staff and the manager that have looked after my mum's care and needs since she has been residing at Westlands Care Home. Mum has settled down into her new home and she is happy
and contented and she adores the carers and that's lovely to see. The food is amazing and delicious and very tasty, I can definitely vouch for this as I have had lunch with mum on occasion recently and I'm always made to feel welcome when I visit. Mum has been helped through recent mobility problems by two very kind and patient carers they have been absolutely wonderful and have gone above and beyond and worked with mum and got her back up on her feet, I cannot thank them enough for their dedication and help xx

Dad gets great care and attention and it is obvious that he is liked and respected by the brilliant team of carers and staff. The manager and deputy are professional, kind and caring and keep us involved and informed in Dad's care and this has always and continues to be so. We are always made to feel
welcome as a family. We are very pleased with the care dad receives. Dementia can sometimes see Dad sad, upset, and unhappy at times but he is always treated with care and respect and the good days see him smiling and laughing with the staff who always have time for him.

My 90-year-old father has been at Westlands since early December 2019. Upon my, almost daily, visits to see him I have observed how tremendous each and every member of the team are. My father's needs have been taken care of with first-class attention. The home is fantastically run by all. There is a
really lovely atmosphere, and it is heartwarming to know that my father is so well looked after, and everyone has time always too for family visitors. Thank you.

My wife was cared for at Westlands from late June 2019 until her sad passing at the end of August 2019. She was afflicted with vascular dementia and so was not the easiest person to care for. My daughter and I would thoroughly recommend Westlands for the undoubted genuine kindness and caring that
all staff - including cleaning staff - and management showed to my wife.
The home may not be the most luxurious looking, but it is clean and tidy and well-run. The quality of the care is what counts and we would like to thank everyone at Westlands - they helped to make a difficult time easier.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.745)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.745) out of 10 for Westlands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.745 for Westlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (370 Excellents x 5) + (110 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 487 Ratings = 4.745
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westlands Care Home is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
