Westlands Care Home is a residential and dementia care facility located in Wellingborough. It is set up to be particularly ideal for people who have developed dementia.

There are calmly decorated bedrooms in muted tones at Westlands, three social areas and an enclosed garden, making for a homely atmosphere that assists staff in carrying out expert care.

Residents have access to a wet room, shower rooms within the building and home-cooked meals are served up daily (with the odd fish and chip supper!)

All laundry is catered for and bedrooms are cleaned daily by housekeeping. Westlands aim is to provide a safe, secure environment that you can call home.

The privately run home also accepts local funded clients with an expected top up fee in addition to the Expected Pay Rate (EPR) which will be discussed with the manager during viewing.

Westlands care home is very good. My friend is here and she gets excellent care for a lady who cannot see a great deal. She has days out, the staff are brilliant and they have loads of activities to do during the day. They also have entertainment for special occasions. My friend really likes it here.
I couldn't wish for a better place for her to stay.

My Mum has been at Westlands for just over a year now and I’m really happy with the care she receives. She often needs a medical attendant, this is sought without delay every time and I am kept fully informed by phone when I can’t get in to visit. She can be quite difficult sometimes but I have only
ever seen caring behaviour from all the staff and can’t praise them enough.

The building was a bit run down when she first went there but the promised refurbishment is being carried out gradually, so as not to disturb residents too much and it is much improved.

I cannot praise the staff enough for all they do for my mum. They are caring, compassionate and tend to every need required, no matter how small or how big. As a family, they have taken us on as their own, make us feel so welcome and part of their family and for that, I can’t thank them enough. They
all go the extra mile for my mum and all the other residents. I honestly feel they don’t get the credit they deserve. Well done all you are doing an absolutely incredible job. You all should be proud of yourselves. Keep doing what you are doing. My family and I cannot thank you enough.
Reply from Nicola Bale, Manager at Westlands Care HomeThank you Zoe, we love having Mum and supporting all of you as a family. This is a journey we are all taking together.

I think Westlands is a very good care home. The staff are excellent and the manager is top class, she and her staff helped my wife to settle down after a sticky start. Once again thanks to the managers and staff at Westlands.

The first time the manager opened the door, I felt a warm hug - so welcoming. ALL staff are kind and considerate of service users and residents alike. Food is amazing and good variety. So clean and health and safety conscious. Rooms cleaned every day and clean linen changed regularly. The manager always
available and always happy to help as are their staff. All of them go 'the extra mile'. A great team that work together well.

This is a good care home, but a few things certainly need looking into. Helpers do their best, but at times I don't like the wait patients have when in need of the toilet.
Twice my wife was left to sit in her excrement for quite some time before being attended to.
Otherwise nothing else troubles
me at the home.
Reply from Tracy D'arvigny, Area Manager at Westlands Care HomeThank you for your comments, we take seriously and act. A new manager is now appointed at Westlands and working towards any complaints or concerns that may arise.
Decoration is underway including toilet facilties to enable independents, privacy and dignity. Should you have any further concerns, please call in the office and we are here to help and support.

Management changes seem to occur often, activities seem to have come to a halt over the last 12 months. Level of staff OK now but previously not enough on duty.
Reply from Tracy D'arvigny, Area Manager at Westlands Care HomeThank you for your comments raised, please let me reassure you that activity is our top priority and the home has appointed an activities person who has experience in this field. The home has booked entertainment and our clients are being taken out more, especially now the weather has changed, NAPA training also commenced. Please feel free to discuss this with the activity coordinator or myself on your next visit and view our yearly planner.
A new manager has been appointed for Westlands and a meeting is to be arranged to meet and greet her.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.745)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.745) out of 10 for Westlands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.745 for Westlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (370 Excellents x 5) + (110 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 487 Ratings = 4.745
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westlands Care Home is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Head of Care Joined: 2019

I have worked for Regal Care for over 5 years. I did move on to pursue another role, but soon returned to the Home as it feels like family. I have developed from Carer to Senior Carer to now Head of Care- supporting the team. I have learnt vastly regarding medicines, health conditions and observing deterioration. This has given me great confidence and the ability to work well with other health professionals on a good level of understanding.
