My aunty came to live at Millfield 3 years ago. I knew from the first day I made the right choice. All the staff are friendly, approachable, and very friendly nothing is too much trouble. The food is lovely and the cook was amazing even catering for my very fussy aunty. As my aunty's life was coming
to the end her wishes were to stay at Millfield and to be cared for by the staff. All staff went above and beyond even sitting with her while I couldn't be there. I know how busy the staff are and I will be forever grateful for this. I would definitely recommend Millfield for your loved one. You will not be disappointed.

Having visited many settings when choosing residential care, Millfield shone through. From our initial visit through to Dad's last days, the care, understanding and compassion of all staff has been exemplary.
Millfield was most definitely home first and foremost. Dad was quick to settle with the support
of the Millfield family. The residents and staff became his friends. He enjoyed the activities with staff going above and beyond to ensure he was happy and engaged.
As Dad reached the end of his time at Millfield, the staff were proactive in supporting Dad and his family. It was very important for us that Dad was able to be cared for at Millfield with the team going above and beyond to bring in nurses and GP to support him.
Would recommend it highly.

My mum moved into Millfield after a difficult few months in hospital and obviously as a family we were worried as this was all new to us and Mum. The staff made us feel extremely welcome and talked through all aspects of the care they offer and put our minds at rest that mum was in the best hands. The
home is lovely and well kept and all the staff we have met are all amazing caring people. We are so glad she has found a place she feels happy and safe in. I genuinely believe the care of the residents is paramount to the staff at Millfield and it shows. I do not believe we could have made a better choice.

My aunt entered Millfield after previously trying another care home on respite care which she didn’t find to her liking. My aunt is very particular and her diet is also. From the start, Millfield staff were very understanding of her dietary requirements and the two head cooks would discuss with her
the day's menu and what they could do to alter it to my aunt's needs. I have found that all the staff I have come into contact with have been lovely and very engaging with the residents and visitors alike.
Initially, the care was for respite with a view to permanent residency and I feel my aunt is very close to making that decision. When she first moved in she was in a room facing the car park and was offered one facing the gardens which is what she originally wanted, however, she now realises that she misses the friends and wants to return. Thank you to the manager for your patience & another member of staff for printing our emails in large font for her to read. Keep up the good work.

Mum moved into Millfield 3 years ago. We have been very happy with the care she has received in that time. Mum doesn't always join in the activities but there are plenty on offer on a daily basis for all to participate in should they so wish. Some sessions that have taken place recently included a visit
from two local choirs. The Saturday visit from the choir I was present at with Mum and noted just how well attended it was. It was a pleasure to watch. They encouraged residents participation at the end of their performance and everyone appeared to have joined in very enthusiastically. It came to light that one of the singers had a parent who was once a resident of Millfield. They have continued to volunteer and share their joy of singing. It certainly brightened up the residents' afternoon! I heard them still chatting about it and complimenting the singers as I was leaving!

My Mum resided at Millfield for 16 months before sadly passing away from vascular dementia in March 2024. She was so happy in her time there and was treated as part of 'The Millfield family'. Every member of staff makes a difference and goes above and beyond. The meals service is second to none with
varying menus daily offering something for everybody. The building is perfectly clean, safe and the rooms are bright and airy. If you are considering Millfield then please don't hesitate as you most certainly will not be disappointed.

My mother went to live at Millfield Care Home in early January 2024. When my wife and I first visited to look to find a place for her we were pleasantly surprised by how warm and homely everything was, we didn't have to make an appointment to go we just turned up and it was really lovely all the staff
were so helpful and all had time to say hello. The residents also looked very happy, which was so important to us. My mother has a beautiful room overlooking the garden and it is always lovely and clean and fresh. She also tells us how good the meals are, So a big thank you to all the staff. It has been such a big weight off our shoulders knowing that she's happy and cared for.

My mother had been a resident of Millfield for three years from October 2020. Sadly she passed away in October 2023 at Millfield. She had been discharged from hospital under palliative care about two weeks beforehand. The care she received from the staff was marvellous, they were so kind and caring.
Also the support they gave us as a family whilst we were by her bedside was lovely. There was specialist care from nurses and other outside bodies which was arranged by the team from the home. So my mum passed away peacefully and in no pain. As Mum had been a resident there for three years I can confirm we have been so happy with my mum's care, it is a lovely home, but what makes it special are the staff who go above and beyond, and myself and all our family are so grateful to them all.

My sister was warmly welcomed into Millfield Care Home in July 2023. Initially, she was slightly hesitant to adapt to her new home.
Thanks to the wonderful encouragement and support of all the staff she soon settled in.
The change in her was unbelievable she took part in all activities, whilst encouraging
other residents to do the same. Her social life certainly improved thanks to the wonderful staff.
Myself and my family have always been made very welcome by the staff.
Unfortunately, my sister passed away in November 2023. I cannot thank everyone enough for all the care, love and support that they give, not only to my sister but also to myself as well in her final weeks.
In my opinion, Millfield is certainly the best care home in Oldham and I would encourage anyone to consider Millfield to provide care and support for their loved ones.

My relative recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Millfield staff were alongside us, during the preparation for this momentous occasion, and on the day. They could not have done more to ensure my relative had a birthday to remember, tailor-making the whole day according to her wishes.
I live a long
way away and so to have the support of Millfield staff, in caring for my loved one, is invaluable. This care and support is in the ordinary and everyday times, as well as on the big occasions, and this is what makes Millfield such a special place.

My 93-year-old mum-in-law needed respite care as we were going away she had never been in care before as we as a family had always been able to look after her. All staff were fantastic with her in particular three members of staff. The food was delicious (believe me she would have been a harsh critic)
and her comments coming home were “all of the staff were kindness itself “.

We recently discovered that our mum's long-lost cousin was also a resident at Millfield, and the staff arranged a get-together between mum, her cousin, her cousin's daughter and me. I had never met them before, but I had a lovely time getting to know them and Mum, who has dementia, managed to remember
some of their mutual family members. The kitchen staff provided us with a lovely high tea, which was such a thoughtful gesture and beautifully presented. This is yet another example of how helpful and accommodating the staff at Millfield are.

15 months on from joining, I am still very happy with the home because Mum continues to feel very happy and loved in her surroundings. It is expensive and inflation has hit us hard this year but the staff are wonderful with Mum - friendly, fun and respectful and they bring out the very best in her in
a way I have not seen in a long time. We are kept updated on home events, personal correspondence from the various government agencies involved and staff are more than happy to let Mum use their mobile phones so we can arrange impromptu video calls together and are happy to pop out and buy Mum some outside items as required. Thank you to all the amazing staff at Millfield - you make such a massive difference to the residents and their relatives.

Our mum was at Millfield for 5 years. Although we felt instantly at ease, Mum did not. It took time and patience to coax her, but staff persevered and Mum came to love them, especially her key worker. She also adored the music, as well as chatting with staff about her life.
Things were not always perfect
but we learned how to resolve issues - find the right person to ask.
Difficult times arrived, Mum became frailer and the staff went from caring to amazing: they had to make many judgements about Mum's health. On one occasion, the hospital said there was nothing else to be done but Millfield agreed she could return. Everybody rallied round and when we arrived, staff were helping her to eat and stand up. Determination won through and she had another year of life for us all to enjoy.
After her final illness, staff continued to support us and were there to pay their final respects when the cortege left Millfield.
Our final words - a wonderful staff, an amazing home.

When it came time for our lovely mum to go into care, there was only one place for her to go. Millfield. It came highly recommended but as soon as we stepped through the door we knew this was going to be her (and our) new home. The sights, sounds and smells showed us that this was like none of the other
places we had visited. The icing on the cake was being shown around by a lovely lady, who put into practice the ethos we wanted to see that the residents come first. Within the first few minutes of Mum arriving we knew that any apprehensions about her future care were misplaced. Mum and her family were treated like lifelong friends. Mum was part of The Millfield family for four years. She was loved by all the staff and cared for like a queen: as were her family and friends. Before, during and after the pandemic the staff’s professionalism shone: through the worst and best times they stood by us. When Mum died we grieved and felt them grieve too. We have made lifelong memories and friends through Millfield.

When it came to the difficult decision of finding a suitable care home for our stepdad, we could have chosen a care home either in Lancashire or Cheshire or anywhere in between. However, after visiting Millfield, the decision was simple, dad should remain close to his roots. Millfield is small enough
to be personal to each individual resident. All areas are light and airy. There is a fabulous social and events co-ordintor. Dad spent 14 months with Millfield. Dad quickly settled in at Millfield. He felt secure, especially during the night, knowing that there would be someone 'popping' in to see he was ok. The 'fun' side of his personality came to the fore, something we had not seen for some time. All the staff at Millfield offered dad the care and support he needed with gentle persuasion, kindness and humour. Thank you Millfield. Be proud of who you are and what you achieve. Hurrah!

My mum has recently moved into Millfield. Having struggled with her at home for the past nine months it became apparent that living alone was no longer an option. From the very start when making enquiries, the home administrator was very helpful and empathetic which helped reduce the stress and guilt
which was felt at this difficult time. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome. All the staff have been amazing. Mum has always been a quiet lady and has been encouraged to engage in the many activities they provide which have led to her making new friends. I can now feel at ease knowing she is definitely in the best place being cared for by the most amazing staff.
Thank you to all the staff for your support to Mum and me through these past few weeks.

My Grandad goes to Millfield for respite care. Every time he arrives it is a warm welcome from the friendly staff. The staff go above and beyond to make sure he settles in quickly and is comfortable for his stay. The home is clean and well kept and my Grandad enjoys his meals. The home is flexible with
allowing us to take my Grandad out to his twice-weekly 'Men in Sheds' carpentry workshop, and allowing us to take in our family dogs to see my Grandad - his favourite family members! My Grandad is a home bird and we were worried he would struggle in a home but it has been a success and now he enjoys his regular respite.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.954)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.954) out of 10 for Millfield is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.954 for Millfield is calculated as follows: ( (521 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 542 Ratings = 4.954
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Millfield is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
