We had to choose a home in quite a quick timeframe due to my father's ill health. We were very grateful that Millfield was recommended to us by health care professionals. We cannot praise all of the staff at Millfield highly enough as they helped Mum settle in so well during an extremely stressful and
difficult time for us all. Mum is extremely happy and now considers Millfield as her home - we could not ask for anymore. The care and love she has received has been extraordinary, we as a family have confidence and peace of mind that she is receiving the very best of care.

Our mum came into the home in March 2022 at the age of 102, having previously lived independently. She reluctantly accepted her lot as she had become too frail to look after herself and particularly unable to walk unaided. However, after the first few weeks of getting accustomed to her new life, she
has herself now taken on a new life and cannot say enough for the high degree of care, support and attention, and yes indeed love she receives. Mum says she wants for nothing and we can say that is definitely the case.

Having done everything possible to keep mum at home with her independence, my two sisters and I finally had to admit that at 95 years old, and following a succession of falls, and failing eyesight, the safest place for mum would be a care home. I visited Millfield and was shown around by the care home
administrator who has been there many years, clearly loves her job and was extremely proud of the home and their staff. We chatted to several residents on the way around the home who seemed very content and I got to meet some of the staff too. The care home manager came to visit and assess mum in her own home, she immediately engaged with her, and we spoke at length about what to expect for both mum and us too. Mum moved into Millfield on 1st August and has been looked after to the highest of standards, and treated with so much dignity and respect. Mum is thriving both physically and mentally, and most importantly, she is living again, not just existing with help.

My 93-year-old dad has been at Millfield now for 3 years and the care that he has received in that time cannot be put into words. The carers and management have been absolutely brilliant with him from day one. During lockdown, Millfield became my dad's family while we could not visit and for that, I
will be eternally grateful. Dad was classed as end of life following hospital admission and hospital doctors questioned if nursing care would not be more suitable due to his complex needs. Millfield didn’t hesitate for one second to have him back. The staff worked so hard and nursed and cared for him during that awful time. Without them, I know Dad would not be with us today.
On reflection, Millfield have not just provided excellent care for Dad but also immense support for myself and my family as well.
They helped me get rid of the terrible guilt that I think everyone feels when they have to put a loved one into care and helped me to become a daughter again instead of Dad's carer.

As my mother’s primary carer I contacted Millfield to arrange a viewing. I went later the same morning and was blown away by the cleanliness, appearance and transparency. The home administrator showed me around the whole building and I just knew it was perfect for Mum. I was also informed that her room
would be decorated before she could move in. My mother has been a resident for four weeks now. This care home is fabulous! On Mum's arrival, she had an issue with her leg which was treated with immediate effect and her continuing care in all aspects is exemplary. All Millfields staff are incredibly kind, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Mum likens it to a cruise ship! My concerns of whether she’d be happy away from the home she left completely disappeared as soon as she entered. She loves it! Mum is treated with absolute dignity and respect. She’s now a happy member of the Millfield family and as her daughter who visits regularly, I too feel extremely welcome.

Millfield Care Home was a home that I had been aware of for a great many years. When the time came in 2020/21 to make a decision on Mum's future as a direct result of her failing health and independence as a family we jumped at the opportunity to look at the home a little closer. Having been in a great
many over the last 30 years +, I have to say I was blown away by what Millfield had to offer Mum. The home was truly immaculate, its furnishings modern, the staff genuinely friendly and welcoming. It was reassuring at that time to be informed that staff were long serving and remained loyal to the home; a rare commodity these days. What struck me most was a sentence used that residents were always respected as family members. A period of time has elapsed since Mum became one of the family at Millfield and I have to say that they have taken Mum's care and wellbeing to the next level. They have been a delight to "work with". I wholeheartedly recommend Millfield care home for your loved ones.

Mum came into Millfield for respite care visits with a view to a permanent move. After just a couple of days, we knew that Mum would be happy here.
From the office staff to the hands on carers, they are all wonderful.
The decoration and furniture looks and feels brand new and the room she has is
lovely.

Having helped to keep my mum in her own place up to the age of 91, I had come to the reality that she could no longer live independently, so whilst she was in hospital from a fall we looked at care homes. Millfield was soon at the top of our list I had heard it was good and we managed to get my mum
in there. We are so happy she is there it's great, the staff are fantastic the place is lovely. The care is good, the rooms and food are great. Having been worried about this situation for years, now both my mum and me and my partner have embraced the situation. I would not hesitate to recommend Millfield as a place to live for someone's loved one.

Like many families before us, we researched various residential care homes in order to find what, we felt, would best suit Mum's needs, as "the best" is what she deserves. My confidence increased each time I spoke with admin because she answered any queries I had in a professional, caring and understanding
manner. I felt like I bombarded her with questions, but nothing was too much trouble. Mum had not settled in the previous care home and "getting this right" was essential.
A few weeks on, we're delighted to report that she has adjusted to her new life at Millfield very well. Well, who wouldn't? She regularly gives positive feedback about "the lovely staff who sort out whatever I ask for, whether it be a cup of tea or the chiropodist, and the food is very good".
Any updates are given and queries responded to as soon as possible. It is a relief to know that Mum's complete care needs are supported by this wonderful team in a lovely environment.

It was a very difficult decision for Mum to go into a care home which took me and my sister a considerable length of time. In my profession as a community dentist visiting care homes, in my experience, the best are like gold dust ie very difficult to find. Staff and how they interact with their residents
and communicate with the friends and relatives are key. In these difficult times, I have found the staff at Millfield excellent in their care of my mum and keeping me and my sister truly well informed.

Millfield continues to provide fantastic care, despite almost daily changes to visiting rules. They have done so much work to facilitate visits as soon as possible.
The staff are kind, friendly, professional and wonderful advocates for the residents. They listen to feedback from families, and their
openness gives relatives ongoing confidence in their care.
Millfield is a real home from home, and my dad continues to be very happy.

When our mother could no longer be looked after at home due to her increasing care needs, Millfield was recommended to us, and after some further enquiries, we decided to move her into their care. It was a difficult decision but one we have not regretted.
Millfield has a lovely family feel, and the
staff made every effort to get to know Mum and help her settle in. We are really happy with the care that Mum is receiving, which always takes into account her personal likes and dislikes, and also her needs due to Alzheimer's.
As you would expect, visiting has been limited because of Covid, but we still have plenty of opportunity for family input, and we are kept informed of any changes happening at Millfield. We particularly value the regular updates from Mum’s personal keyworkers – all of which keep us in the loop in these tricky times.

My mother got to the stage of her life that needed constant care due to her dementia, after reviewing other care homes "Millfield" stands heads head and shoulders above the rest. The staff are well trained and fully understand the care that my mum needs and delivers that professionally. The communications
between Millfield and myself are excellent and always ensure I'm informed of any issues that affect her welfare. Considering the Covid 19 situation the home has handled that admirably, I was able to Facetime mum on a regular basis and that goes a long way from the pains of separation of not seeing her. Most importantly that mum is happy there and is able to socialise and made a few friends.

Millfield has been an excellent choice for ourselves as a family in providing a caring, safe, friendly and excellently managed home for our father. The people who work there are absolutely wonderful, genuine and always put the residents' well being, quality of life and happiness at the centre of everything
that they do. It is excellent to see a wide range of social activities and opportunities that are provided, offering physical and mental health wellbeing for all those taking part. The standard of food is really good, both in terms of quality and quantity, which is something that our father particularly appreciates, along with the level of comfort and independence provided by his personal living accommodation. Finally, the situation of the home allows for ease of access from many directions, due to its proximity to main roads and motorway networks also for those people who travel to be able to visit, following these COVID restrictions being lifted. A wonderful place, thank you!

My sister entered Millfield during lockdown and so has not been allowed visitors since her admission 3 months ago. Despite not being able to visit her, we have every confidence in the care she is being given. We have been sent photos of her various times and kept updated by email. The staff are always
very pleasant and efficient when you ring up. When I speak to my sister on the phone she always sounds very happy and compliments the staff spontaneously and never mentions going home. It is a hard decision placing your relative in a home and her son gave it a lot of heart-searching before making the decision. All the family are delighted she is in Millfield because it provides care in all the aspects you want and mainly because my sister is content and happy and well cared for. Thank you to you all.

Moving dad into a care home from his own home couldn't have come at a worse time for us as a family, during the early days of the lockdown. He was hospitalised and sent to a care home from that visit. Things were not going too well in the other care home and we couldn't visit anywhere to check them
out. I remembered visiting Millfield some years ago and liked the ambience and atmosphere at that time and thought it was a place dad would feel comfortable. After a few telephone calls with the Home Administrator, everything was put in place for dad's move. He has been there now just over two months and we are very happy with how things are going. Regular updates via emails and lots of photos posted to their FB page, they even produce a monthly email magazine. Not being able to visit our dad is just awful but we feel confident that any issues and queries we have are answered and dealt with promptly. Well done Millfield staff at this difficult time. Thank you for looking after our dad.

My brother, who has a Parkinsonism, was taken to hospital after collapsing at home. The social worker there suggested he went for respite to Millfield. We couldn't visit beforehand due to the pandemic but read the very glowing reviews of other families.
The whole experience for both my brother and
the family has been so positive. Before he arrived at Millfield we were asked to write about him, his background and his interests so the staff would know something about him. They have all been extremely kind, compassionate, good-humored and very professional. They keep in touch with us all the time, with medical updates and photos of our brother. They also print out photos we send to him. We appreciate this very much as we live a long way from Oldham and are unable to visit at the moment.
My brother is very content. He loves the food, joins in activities and most of all feels safe and secure. Thank you to everyone at Millfield. I can't recommend you enough.

After Mum had a fall and broke her hip she ended up in Hospital for an Operation. Mum also suffers from the early stages of Alzheimer's and when the time came for Mum to leave Hospital her Social Worker stated that she must go into Respite Care.
We were given some invaluable advice by the Social Worker
who suggested just turning up on the doorstep to see how different Homes responded. Millfield were ahead by a country mile with their "Yes, of course you can come in and have a look round."
We were given a full tour of the place by a member of staff who was clearly very proud of their environment.
With the progression of Alzheimer's, we had to make the decision to move Mum into the Home permanently and she now seems happier and brighter than she has been for a long time.
The Management and Staff at Millfield really do care in every sense of the word. They have been marvellous in looking after Mum which has given me a great deal of peace of mind. I would highly recommend Millfield.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.954)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.954) out of 10 for Millfield is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.954 for Millfield is calculated as follows: ( (521 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 542 Ratings = 4.954
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Millfield is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
