Overall Experience

Mum came into Beechfield Lodge from rehab where she had had a very difficult time through the pandemic and had deteriorated considerably. After a few weeks at Beechfield, she had settled and was beginning to improve - her mobility and wellbeing improved, and even her memory - despite having dementia. I believe that this is down to the care and attention she has received from the lovely staff at Beechfield and the smooth running of the home.

Accommodation roomy and homely. Good care provides all needs. Personal care, cleaning all meals which mum has a choice of. The staff encourage mum to make her own choices. The staff always welcome us and answer all questions asked. A member of staff is always pleasant and chatty along with other colleagues.

The care and dedication of the staff at Beechfield Lodge is exceptional. I would like to put on record a special mention of a care assistant who goes above and beyond her contractual duties to help in any way she can. My mum was 90 in October and the staff arranged a lovely afternoon tea event for mum, my sister and I to enjoy under restricted conditions. A huge thank you to the housekeeper and her kitchen staff for making this possible. I couldn't ask for any better care or attention.

I am unlikely to recommend Beechfield Lodge to anyone whose relative has similar needs to my mum. For the first three years that mum was resident at Beechfield, we were happy with the level of care mum received; with most of the staff (some of which were extremely caring) and with the physical environment which was clean, light, and airy. Prior to Covid, the activities were good - although mum wasn’t always included in these. The problem for us was once mum's needs increased and she needed more care. Beechfield Lodge didn’t respond to this - resulting in neglect: significant weight loss, unwitnessed falls, and injuries, and mum spending most of her time alone in her room. These factors all contributed towards mum becoming depressed and accelerated her dementia. After many conversations with management, they eventually suggested mum’s needs would be better met in a nursing home. It saddens me that this wasn’t suggested six months earlier when they first realised they were struggling.

Some staff are amazing with Mum. Very good and attentive to Mum's needs and communicating with the family. There is the odd one member of staff that do not seem to know Mum or how to speak to her. I appreciate this is human nature and will always get some people who are naturally caring. Overall very good and they have worked so hard throughout the pandemic.

I cannot praise this care home enough. The home, including the rooms are always tidy and clean. The family are always informed of any changes with mum, ie. changes in medication and of any incidents. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the word carer couldn't be more apt because I have always found them to be very caring. Through difficult times, the home has been the best it can.

A very high standard of care. The home was always clean and staff was friendly and helpful. The range of activities for residents was very good. Regular relatives' meetings kept us informed as to what activities were planned so that we could encourage our relatives to take part as they are not always able to remember themselves what was planned. The standard of food was excellent and the dining rooms were well laid out and welcoming.

I find Beechfield Lodge extremely well run and clean and the staff all kind, caring and conscientious. My Aunt is currently being cared for there and she can be a little challenging but the carers are always good and kind with her, which really puts my mind at rest. She always looks clean and well cared for.
