Overview

The Review Score of 9.6 (maximum of 10) for The Beeches Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 24 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Beeches Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.561 for The Beeches Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (199 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 287 Ratings = 4.561

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Beeches Care Centre is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6.4 positive Reviews (32 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 6.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.6 The Beeches Care Centre has a Review Score of 9.6 (9.561) from 24 Reviews

Thanks to The Beeches Care Centre for the outstanding care they gave my mum while she lived there for the past four and a half years. She was very happy there because of the dedicated care and love from everyone, from cleaners, laundry, canteen, carers and manager. It felt like home.
I was touched by the compassion and dignity they displayed as they attended to her through several illnesses and her recent death. The girls were genuinely upset at her passing. Many attended the funeral in their own time.
I cannot recommend the care home enough for anyone looking for a place for their relatives.

My mum came to The Beeches for respite care. She had fallen at home and needed extra care. All the staff are excellent. I have no complaints about the level of care she receives. She loves the food and has gained weight. She is assisted with washing and dressing and always looks clean. She is even joining in with activities which are well planned.

Finding The Beeches care home has been a Godsend for my mum and I. I really appreciate their care and support for both my mum and myself.

They are so kind and caring but also professional and highly organised. I have been able to enjoy my time with my mum. Knowing that her physical and emotional needs are being met when I am not there is such a burden lifted.

HC-One, Careline Team at The Beeches Care Centre responded to this review on 15 Jun 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review.
Any concerns raised at home level are investigated immediately and fed back to the family.
On occasion there are conflicting opinions between the statutory services, the home and or family members. Wherever possible we will work to ensure that Residents can remain in the care home.
We are committed to providing Residents with the high quality, kind care they deserve, and ensuring we can meet everyone’s individual needs.

I live abroad so I was only able to visit every 3 or 4 months. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the impression they had too many things to do at the same time and in general more staff would help. Outside area did not seem to be used properly because no one was available to sit with residents.

Claire Hurworth, Careline Manager at The Beeches Care Centre responded to this review on 15 May 2017:

The home is now fully staffed after recruiting onto both day and nightshifts. The outside area is used regularly by residents in warmer weather, staff do not sit with them as residents in our home have full capacity but are regularly checked whilst they are outside. Staff will join residents during their breaks and the activities coordinator carries out activities with the residents who prefer being outdoors. Residents also regularly go out in the local area to the shops unassisted as if they were will still in their own home.

Approximately two years ago a decision was made by my mother and family that 24-hour care would be necessary. We looked at a few homes and chose The Beeches. We certainly made the correct choice for my mother. The friendliness and caring nature of all the staff were marvellous. The home was clean and tidy and the food was very good. Residents and visitors could have a drink/snack whenever they needed one. At mealtimes, there was always a variety of choices. Regular entertainments were organised along with trips out. Any religious needs were catered for. An activities coordinator was employed to keep the resident's minds active. The home was always improving their facilities. My mother spent her last few years in this excellent home for which we were very grateful.

On my numerous visits to The Beeches during the past two years or so, I have always found the staff to be extremely professional, but also very welcoming and helpful. Nothing has ever been too much trouble, either in their care for the residents, or their attention to visitors. I cannot bring to mind any occasion when this has not been so, and it applies to all members of staff I have encountered.

My husband was 6 years in a home with Alzheimer's. It's different, far nicer than the one he was in. My brother lives at The Beeches - it is a very lovely place and I'm very pleased about that.

My mother has recently moved into The Beeches. After a small stroke and a period of time in the hospital. I have been delighted with the way she has been treated by the staff to make her feel welcome. The manager and staff were excellent when there was a problem with her discharge from the hospital, sorting it out with me calmly and efficiently. I can tell my mum is being well cared for and is safe and sound in a well-run care home.

On first visiting the home when looking for care for mum, I knew it was the right place for her. The home had such a warm caring homely feel about it. All the staff that I came in contact with were warm and friendly and professional. Mum has been in the Beeches a couple of years and has been very well cared for. I know when I leave her I have piece of mind that she is safe and happy.

My 93 yr old mum has now been at The Beeches for 2 years. She has always been a very independent person and it was hard for her to give up her home and accept that she needed help and support in her everyday life to keep her safe and well cared for. She chose The Beeches as it is smaller home where she felt secure and more able to understand the simple layout. Staff were very friendly on our visits. We joined in the activities provided, had lunches and mum soon made friends. Whilst it has not been an easy transition for mum to accept, often anxious and tearful, staff are always patient and attentive to her needs and do all they can to support her. The senior management team are especially supportive to both residents and relatives and work hard to ensure a clean, happy, safe and interesting environment for all who go there.

My mum has been at The Beeches for 10 months. It is a very warm and welcoming home with a "homely" feeling as you go in. My mum is very well cared for and all her needs are met. The staff are great, anything my mum has needed, they have arranged it for her, to make her day to day life as comfortable as possible.

The best recommendation I can give regarding this care home is the outstanding qualities of the carers who work there. I visited many when I realised my mother would at some point require moving into a care home. It was the most difficult and upsetting decision I have ever had to make. A lot of the care homes I visited looked very similar with respect to furnishings, cleanliness, etc. However, there is a certain 'warmth' about The Beeches Care Centre. This can only occur if you get a sense that the carers actually care.
After four months I have witnessed genuine respect, dignity and a sense of fun. As one carer put it on the very first day to my mother "We (the carers) are living in your home"
It just goes to show it's not what's on the outside but whats on the inside that is important.

Mum died in the Beeches Care Home today. The care and compassion shown by the staff was outstanding, she died with dignity and was blessed with the love shown by the staff. They went above and beyond their duties, some of the carers came in on their own time to care for her. All the staff should be commended for their dedication to the residents. They not only cared for mum but also constantly offered drinks and hugs to all the family.
