Earlier this year my husband and I had to make a very difficult decision to put Mum in a home for her own safety. From day one the manager of this beautiful home and her amazing staff made us and Mum very welcome. They not only gave us comfort in the knowledge that Mum was now safe but they really took
care of Mum and cared for her in such a lovely way with dignity and respect. I would highly recommend Handsworth House to anybody facing this very delicate matter with relatives or loved ones and to speak to the manager and you will feel instant warmth. As I can’t thank you all personally at Handsworth I’m taking this opportunity to thank everyone as you all play a very important role. Great job, great team and thank you.

I volunteer here with the pianist who plays the piano and the residents sing along or listen. I am always struck by how much care and effort goes into making the sessions fun on the part of the staff. The home has a lovely atmosphere and so many small touches to make the place feel special.

Very pleased with the support, care and engagement of residents. I have been visiting regularly for approximately 2 years prior to the Covid 19 lockdown. Staff are consistent and fully engaged with residents, we have been kept informed of any changes to the health and wellbeing of our relation, and
window visits have been facilitated and also enjoyed Facebook updates and letters from the administrator. Highly recommend this home.

I cannot praise the staff at Handsworth and the MHA organisation as a whole for their ongoing care and support of residents and their families during this pandemic. The staff continue to appear cheerful and committed resulting in calm, content residents which is reassuring for family and friends. The
management and pastoral support has been pragmatic and innovative. Thank you to everyone.

It was a great relief when the friend for whom I have power of attorney, despite being reluctant to enter into residential accommodation, soon acknowledged that she was glad she had agreed to that decision. Since being at Handsworth and receiving regular nourishment and medication, she has had far less
falls and when she has fallen, help is readily on hand. Living with others has increased her confidence and sociability. Unfortunately, the Covid restrictions since March have obviously impacted adversely on the possibility of having visitors or making visits. These had just started to ease when they had to be reimposed in Trafford since the end of July. She is looking forward to the return of the Activities Coordinator who has been off, for the stimulation provided, which the staff have tried to maintain when their other duties permit.

During these current challenging times in living with COVID-19, I know that my parents are in a good, safe place - especially reassuring given the distance I live from Handsworth.

I have several friends from my local church who are or have recently been residents at Handsworth, and my late father also a little further back.
I am always pleased to observe the attitude of all the team in attending to residents' needs in a timely fashion, coping with great calm and consideration
when demands are at their peak and giving respect to each individual.
This is done with a personal connection, genuine concern and a commitment to understanding each residents journey and state of mind.
This may sound what you should expect from a care home, but in my experience, that is very often sadly lacking and when you find it, it needs to be honoured and highlighted.

Low turnover of very caring staff. Residents are treated as individuals. Good at providing or organising extras, e.g. parties, activities, treats. Building is purpose-built, so good easy-to-navigate layout, with all en-suite rooms. Charming garden. Plenty of on-site parking for visitors.

standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Extra efforts being put in during Coronavirus lockdown, with zero cases, and extra means of communication put in for relatives to stay in touch.
Whilst fees are a little higher than the Local Authority indicative rate for funded care, the quality of accommodation and care provided is at an altogether higher level. A not-for-profit, charitable organisation, hence good value for money.

Handsworth care home is a very caring and friendly care home. My dad has been here for three years now and is very happy living there. I also like the fact that it allows dogs to visit relatives.
I take my lurcher dog to visit my dad on a regular basis. My dad likes to see her and other residents
enjoy meeting her.

I have felt welcomed as a person, not just an old person here. As the staff and I have got to know each other, I feel as if I have made new friends, I enjoy the company and am encouraged to live a life. This is my fourth week here.

The staff are all so very friendly. Always on hand to assist at all times. Although extremely busy- never a problem to acknowledge or help you. There's something happening at Handsworth most days, a birthday, a garden party, a sing-a-long. The entertainment - marvellous. As is a lovely cup of tea at
Handsworth.

Food regular and healthy and enjoyed by my mun. Activities also good. Room well maintained and clean and facilities were good. Being checked in on at night sometimes disturbed sleep but for health and safety, I acknowledge it was important. My mum has benefitted from the care and is now living independently

Throughout my father's time at Handsworth, he was cared for by all the staff in a warm, friendly and courteous manner. Always respected and supported as well as invited to get involved with activities. During the last couple of months of his life (he passed away 29.1.18), the staff went above and beyond
the call of duty. They were his family, that made all the difference as I live far from Handsworth. Whilst the building may be getting tired and in need of a refresh, it's the staff that make all the difference. Well done.

My mum has been at Handsworth for nearly 3 years. Initially, she was very withdrawn and depressed, (recently bereaved). The staff have been very good with her, helping her through that initial period and certainly, in the last year, she seems much happier. She still stays in her room apart from mealtimes
(her choice) but now smiles a lot more and is happy to exchange banter with the staff. Her room is very nice and she now considers it 'home'. Staff have been very attentive to the several faints/falls (due to a pre-diagnosed condition) and illnesses she has had and I am always informed asap. My comments on the survey. The list of activities look good but mum doesn't join in so I can't comment, food and drink has been tricky as mum is a fussy eater, value for money - I hope so but it still seems expensive.

The staff are always willing to help and are very caring and aware of the need for dignity. The overall ambience is warm and friendly and you are welcome to visit anytime.


My husband has settled well, I visit him every day and have always felt at home. The majority of residents are wheelchair bound

including my husband and the staff deal with this very well.

My father moved into the home in May 2017. He has been consistently treated with dignity, kindness and respect and has quickly come to see it as his home.
I am full of praise for the management and staff.
The facilities are very good, although my father would have liked an en-suite shower, and so
far an applicable room hasn't become available.

The staff are excellent and make every effort to see that the clients are happy and comfortable. They are respectful and friendly. My mother speaks very highly of the carers and is encouraged to live as full a life as possible in her frail condition.
For those who want it, there are activities provided
every day, but they are not compulsory and each individual is allowed to decide for themselves how far they wish to participate.
The home is well-run and senior staff are always available to answer questions. Any issues we have raised have been dealt with quickly and effectively.
I would thoroughly recommend this care home.

My mum has been a resident for six months and has eventually settled in really well after some early confusion as to why she was in Handsworth and not at home. She is now content with her surroundings and likes the staff, meals and entertainment. I am pleased she has settled in well and happy that
she is safe and sound and well cared for by the team.
