Mum's always clean and well cared for. The staff are always polite and patient with Mum.
I always get the feeling that Mum is treated as one of the family by the staff and it makes a huge difference to her last placement.
All in all, very happy and a big thank you to all the staff!

The timing has been a little bit crazy with not being able to visit from the day after my mother-in-law went in but the staff have always been very reassuring and communication has always been great. We feel like she has been loved and cared for and are now happy we can come in for visits. Thank you.

My mum entered Kirkby House a day before the final lockdown in 2020. This was hard as we weren't able to see her or how she was settling in. The staff arranged window visits when it was allowed and Facetime calls so we could see her. The staff helped reassure me that she was well looked after and she
has settled in really well. I am more than happy with how she has been treated and the level of care she receives.

My dad was so sad when he lost our beautiful mum to vascular dementia and needed 24-hour care. The staff in this care home are honestly fantastic with my dad, he's really settled in now and even has a friend to talk to. If you want your loved one to be cared for and looked after this is definitely the
best place. I can't thank the staff enough for keeping Dad safe especially in the last 12 months - all the staff deserve a raise.

Mum was residing in Kirkby House for three years following many years of difficulties at home. The care and support given to both Mum and our family; was fabulous.
The staff treated Mum with dignity and respect all of the time and always made our family welcome when we visited, often after long journies
to Liverpool.
Towards the end of Mum's life, the staff treated her like their own; showing love and kindness all of the time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Kirkby House; who are amazing.

Kirkby House has cared for my Mum for 3 years. She died on 3rd January 2020. I cannot express how grateful I am and we are as a family for the care, kindness and support Mum received whilst she was there. Also, the care and respect given to Mum and us in the difficult weeks, months up to Mum dying.
The staff are second to none and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were kept informed every step of the way and could not have asked for better care for Mum. All staff members were upset at Mum passing and many of them attended the funeral service. That in my view shows their care and compassion. Mum has been happy there and enjoyed the days out and all the activities such as singing, dancing etc. I would not hesitate to recommend Kirkby House to look after loved ones.

Mum was at Kirkby House for three years in total. We didn't want Mum in a care home as we had cared for her in her own home for years previously, but it became impossible as her dementia progressed and safety was a big issue. To add to the dilemma, Mum had been to another home for six weeks respite,
which had not been a good experience.
The first day Mum arrived at Kirkby House, the staff were unbelievable with supporting us as well and throughout Mum's stay that carried on. They all made Mum's and our lives easier to cope with the terrible illness. What we and the extended family and friends witnessed was the care and genuine fondness the staff have for all the residents and whilst life is not always perfect, it was always a good atmosphere. Lots of activities, singers, dances parties and other celebrations throughout the year.
Mum loved her food, and it was all home-made as well as lots of cake which is so important.
Thank you to all the wonderful, caring staff at Kirkby House.

Kirkby House is a lovely, warm, friendly environment. My auntie is well cared for and the staff are all caring of her. Her health has improved greatly in the two years she has been here.
My only issue would be the food - she does not really like it - she is a bacon ribs person! She prefers custard,
rice pudding and yoghurts to heavy cakes.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.833)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.833) out of 10 for Kirkby House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.833 for Kirkby House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (271 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 324 Ratings = 4.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirkby House Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
