Dad has been at Upton Grange for three months now. He has settled in extremely well and is cared for like one of their own. I cannot commend the staff enough for their hard work and dedication. They provided numerous daily activities over the Christmas period that Dad really enjoyed. I feel secure in
the knowledge that he is being looked after.

My initial assessment of Upton Grange was of a clean and friendly environment which was a priority when placing Mum here. However, after visiting Mum several times now I have come to the conclusion that not only are all staff and carers friendly and competent but they are all genuinely caring and it
is a pleasure to visit and listen to Mum's positive feedback. Keep up the good work you are all doing. Thank you.

From the moment we first walked into Upton Grange, we were very impressed. Everyone made us feel very welcome, the wonderful facilities, the kind and caring staff - everything about it impressed us so much that we knew this was the place we wanted for Mum!
Mum herself immediately fell in love with
it and felt at home there, which was obviously so important.
I cannot thank the staff enough, the home is a credit to them - it is evident they love the residents and in turn, the residents obviously feel the same way about them.
When I visit my mum, she is always happy and enjoys participating in the various activities on offer. Mum feels she is valued there, she is part of the lovely community there and it's so good to see her confidence growing once again.
She also tells me the meals are "amazing and out of this world!"
I am so pleased we found Upton Grange and that they had a place for my mum - I cannot praise and thank the manager and all her wonderful staff enough!

Staff are always lovely and welcoming on every occasion. I'm always kept updated on Mum's progress she always seems happy.
There are a variety of activities that most of the residents can participate in if they choose and all occasions are celebrated which is great to see. Thank you for all you do.

My mother moved into Upton Grange following a long hospital admission and very serious illnesses, from which I did not expect her to recover.
Before choosing Upton Grange, I visited a range of other residential care homes in the area, none of which offered the same quality of accommodation and a high
level of support.
The rooms are lovely, the building is spotlessly clean and is maintained to a high standard throughout. The food is excellent and there are lots of activities for residents to enjoy.
The quality of care at Upton Grange has helped me to get my mum back. At the age of 86, she is happy, active and engaged with carers and fellow residents. I really did not expect this level of recovery and I am totally convinced that this is due to the expertise and commitment of the wonderful staff, who clearly have genuine affection for my mum and all of the other residents.

Mum was in Upton Grange for 2 weeks for respite. Upon arrival, the staff were really kind and helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable. She thoroughly enjoyed her meals there and had plenty of coffee treats. The attentiveness was so good and she was looked after so well.

From the moment we arrived at Upton Grange, we knew this was the perfect place for Mum to stay. We had a lovely warm welcome and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Mum really enjoyed her respite stay and is looking forward to her next visit/stay. I felt very comfortable leaving Mum knowing she was
in safe hands and being looked after.

My elderly mother who suffers from dementia has lived at Upton Grange for eighteen months. During this time she has been cared for extremely well with lovely welcoming staff. After fracturing her pelvis she returned to the home in a sorry state. She had nearly eaten in the hospital and was in pain.
Upton Grange has been wonderful and I am eternally grateful. Over time with their nurturing care, she has built up her strength and is now walking again with her Zimmer and is participating in the activities. She is enjoying life again!

I was well looked after and my mind was put at ease as soon as I arrived. I was in for 3 weeks of respite after a fall and they helped are return to full health. The staff were very caring and nothing was too much for them. I was regularly checked on and they were so understanding in these difficult
times for me.

Our mum has been in Upton Grange just over 2 years she's settled very well. She has her independence and also has the carers should she need them. Mum has short-term memory loss so she hasn't been the mum she used to be for some years. She's definitely come out of her shell participating in some activities
but she also likes her peace and quiet time. Family members who visit say how well and content she is. It's a worry when you move your parent into a care home but Mum is doing well - as a family, we're all pleased amd relieved it's working out well. It's a lovely care home with lovely staff and management who all work hard.

My husband spent a week in care at Upton Grange in July. He was very well looked after and I felt that the staff really understood him. He has Vascular Dementia and likes to be busy, they gave him jobs to do and kept him busy. I would have no hesitation in him staying again and plan eventually to move
him there for full-time care.

Mum has just moved in for a couple of weeks of respite care and we had three visits ahead of that when the staff made Mum feel really at ease. She was understandably unsure about having time away from her home but they made her feel so welcome she got over that very quickly.
The staff also gave me
all the information to help me prepare Mum for her stay and for me to prepare for it too.
The home itself is light bright and very clean.

I have to phone quite often to speak with my relative which is sometimes difficult to get through but mainly it is ok. The staff are lovely, helpful and very supportive of families. Always respond to any queries. I sometimes don't know if Mum is joining activities as she forgets so would find that helpful
to know. We are able to go out with our relative and they are flexible with her return.

Upton Grange is a fantastic care home. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for respite, residential or dementia care. The staff are caring and attentive. Cleanliness is first-class, just wish Dad could stay here indefinitely, unfortunately, due to his decline he has to find another establishment.

The staff are friendly and attentive to my mother's daily needs. She is settled here and seems content with the home and all the staff who do a brilliant job. She is well cared for and the care home is clean and tidy. My mother's room is on the shady side of the building so it is dark but she doesn't
spend much time in it and prefers to be in the lounge.
I would like to see more activities throughout the year as in December.

A very well-run care home with excellent staff.
I have no doubt that Mum is happy at Upton Grange and that she probably would not be still with us without the care she receives.
Here's hoping that she will make it be 100 years old, September 2024. Well done all at Upton Grange.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.847)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.847) out of 10 for Upton Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.847 for Upton Grange is calculated as follows: ( (380 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.847
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Upton Grange is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
