My review on Upton Grange has been excellent service. The staff are very professional but also friendly. I like to have my hair and nails done - very reasonably priced, very nice ladies. Excellent hair set and excellent nails. Upton Grange is excellent with entertainment and it should be nice at Christmas.
I will be here to enjoy all the festivities.

There has been a lowering of standard since the change of management, a number of good quality staff have left to work elsewhere leaving existing staff (who are excellent) under great pressure trying to keep up a good standard of care with a shortage of staff. I am told at the time of writing this review
that they are five people short of staff. Lately, there have been a number of items missing from my aunt's room: clothes, toiletries and confectionary on a regular basis.
Reply from Julie Harwood, Manager at Upton GrangeThank you for your feedback on Upton Grange and we are pleased that you rate our staff as excellent. We regularly review dependency in the home and have recently recruited further staff, which are progressing through our robust recruitment process. Our recent CQC inspection rated Upton Grange Good in all areas where staffing is reviewed. We will investigate any instances of missing items when made aware.

My mother-in-law has been in Upton Grange since May 2018. She is partially deaf and blind and 98 years old. But has settled in reasonably OK. Everywhere is clean and bright and the staff are very good.
The only negative comment is that my mother-in-law says there are not many daily activities. I have
seen that daily activities are shown on the notice board but my mother-in-law says that they often do not happen.
Still waiting for the first invoice for payment after 3 months.
Reply from Julie Harwood, Home Manager at Upton GrangeThank you for taking the time to provide feedback on Upton Grange and we are pleased you are likely to recommend us. We endeavour to provide a programme of activities for our residents, where they are given the choice to participate. I apologise for the delay in terms of finance and this should now be resolved.

I stayed at Upton Grange for 5 nights to allow my husband to visit our son. This was my first experience in a residential home and overall it was a pleasant one.
I had a very nice ensuite room and the staff were wonderful, very attentive and would do anything for you.
The only downside was the food,
however, this was only for the first three days and then a new chef arrived and the change was dramatic, lovely, homemade dishes appeared.
The facilities were very good and there was a summer fair held on the Saturday in the garden.
All in all a satisfactory experience and I would return again to allow my husband a break in the future.

We had to put my dad in here at short notice. The staff at Upton Grange were a great help in achieving this. They made dad feel very welcome and even came to his home beforehand and told him all about Upton Grange.
Dad has dementia and the way he is treated makes him feel calm and secure so each time
we visit, he is happy and content.

Delighted to obtain a place for my mother on discharge from the hospital. Excellent communication through Anchor and Upton Grange's caring, warm professional administrator. Staff are genuine and treat residents with great dignity and support. A home from home for my mother who resisted residential care
until the inevitable loss of independence as Alzheimer's progressed. Thoroughly recommend Upton Grange to any potential resident or their family.

I have visited many care homes on the Wirral, but Upton Grange is outstanding.
My father had the most professional caring key worker who took care of his every need, medically and emotionally. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone. The atmosphere is very happy and the food is to a high
standard.
Well done Upton Grange you offer a wonderful service.

Staff are very caring and professional in the way they handle my mum. She is very well looked after, and although she does not mix with the other residents, which is her choice, the staff will pop into her room at regular intervals to check that she is ok and does not need anything. There is also a
call button which will bring a staff member in to see to her, when she needs it.
The home feels like a hotel when you go at any time, bright , welcoming & fresh smelling. The staff go out of their way to help both myself and my mum, and keep me informed of anything they feel I need to know.
My mum settled into the home very quickly, and now she feels that the staff are all her friends.

Upton Grange is a very well run home, my dad went in there Nov last year and the difference it's made to his life, the staff treat him with dignity, kindness. The entertainment they put on is excellent. It was very difficult for us to find a nursing home for dad and I have to say that made the transition
more bearable for us all.

My aunt has been a resident in Upton Grange for the last year. We initially looked at 16 care homes and the grange was by far the best. Among the categories detailed below the main factor in our choice was the quality of the management and the staff's interaction with their residents. This creates what
we can only describe as a "Happy" atmosphere the ongoing and regular training of staff can only contribute to this overall atmosphere.

After three years at Upton Grange, my aunt is settled but would still like to live in her "own place", which of course is not possible. The staff are all very friendly, helpful and caring and she is looked after very well. She is not very receptive to organised activities or outings, and because of
her vascular dementia is not able to contribute to or be interested in residents meetings. As her room is on the first floor, she is unable to get into the garden unaided. If I am taking her out to lunch, I always let Upton Grange know in advance, but communication does not always get through to the staff on duty and she can sometimes be at or on her way to the dining table. The move to 5pm dinner time has been a help for visiting or going out in the afternoons.

My family and I are full of praise for the excellent service and care provided by the management and staff at this home. The only two questions that matter to me: 1. Is my elderly father happy there? (He has full mental capacity) 2. Are my family and I happy with the care he receives? To both these
questions, the answer is Yes. From what I have seen and heard and experienced at this home, I believe Upton Grange is one of the best in its field and a model to learn from. They deserve the praise!

My mum has been in Upton Grange for 3 and a half years! In that time she has flourished both in physical appearance and attitude! She has never looked better, due to all the excellent care and attention she receives.

Staff are like a second family to her which is such a relief knowing I have left

her in safe capable hands. Thank you Upton Grange for my peace of mind!! xx

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.847)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.847) out of 10 for Upton Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.847 for Upton Grange is calculated as follows: ( (380 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.847
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Upton Grange is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
