The treatment and isolation of my mum have been very upsetting. She was quarantined for three days 72 hours because my brother her son when on a visit allowed his face mask to slip briefly while visiting our 91-year-old mum. It was witnessed by a member of staff who reported it to the management. Management took extreme over-the-top punitive action by isolating our mum to her room for 72 hours after just ending a previous 72-hour quarantine after a four-day visit to our home in Wales. I complained to the management who was totally unsympathetic and extremely rude. The lady spoke with a raised voice and did not listen to my concerns as to what this continuous isolation and quarantine of my mum was affecting her spirit and will. It was most distressing.

I hope I never have to witness the upset that this caused my mum again!!

Reply from Lauren Shaw, Manager at High Wray

Please be assured the well-being of residents is our priority. During isolation, your mum had social distance visits from friends, family visits, 1:1's with staff and an activity workbook. We have remained covid free throughout the pandemic, which we are immensely proud of and work hard to remain...

If you happen to be scrolling through reviews looking for a possible care home for a loved one, stop here.

Having visited a dear friend weekly who lives here, I am in no doubt that he is cared for 100% and that the staff have the best interests of those in their care at heart. It is an ethos that comes from the top and is evident amongst staff who appear to also be valued highly. Well done to all who work here; an incredible building with its original features enhanced beautifully and with no expense spared in monetary or catering terms. The residents are furnished likewise.

My mum had a difficult time at another care home, and we withdrew her from there and had to find another placement really quickly. High Wray offered an assessment at very little notice, and the member of staff who undertook that was the best possible combination of professional, friendly, thorough and courteous. That good first impression was reinforced when Mum was admitted a few days later. High Wray is in a beautiful location, the building is modern and clean and the rooms are spacious. My mum enjoys the meals and the activities and entertainment provided. The most impressive thing about High Wray though is the quality of the staff. Every single one I've met, from the manager to the part-time student nurse, has been so welcoming, so kind in what they say about my mum, and so accommodating with any requests we have made. I can't say how relieved we have been as a family to find such a superb facility to care for our mum. I fully recommend it with absolutely no reservation.

This home is exceptional and the standards are high. The staff are caring and dedicated. The home is spotless and the food is home-cooked. My mum has been here for 4 years and is very happy and content. The big room at the back is surrounded by beautiful countryside and every afternoon this is where the residents can enjoy a full activity programme. My mum enjoys the singing afternoons. I can highly recommend High Wray, recently they were quick to recognise a health issue and contact the relevant medical professionals. The management team are very understanding and during the past year have worked exceptionally hard to keep everyone safe and well.

My dad has been a resident for some time. I am confident that he receives the best care at all times. The staff are always diligent and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is clean and the view from the guest lounge is fantastic. It is very much a home from home.

My mum was in High Wray for several years and recently I was lucky enough to get my dad in there for respite after he came out of hospital. This was the only place I wanted him to go, as I knew they would support him so much in his recovery and help him get back on his feet, which is exactly what they did.

The care at High Wray is just outstanding. The management are so supportive to family and helped me so much during some very difficult times. The staff are all fantastic and I can't praise them highly enough. The food is excellent and they accommodated my Dad's allergies completely. He loved everything about his stay there and it is the only place I would want, and trust, to look after anyone I loved.

Just the best residential home that my mum and I could have chosen for her, in every way. The interior and surroundings are as far away from what you would normally expect; my son said it is like a beautiful hotel and would be happy to stay there himself, and I agree!

The care and staff are outstanding. A leg ulcer that my mum had for several years and the District Nurse's said put her at risk of sepsis has now cleared up with their care. I have recommended them many times already.

I sadly fell and fractured my hip and needed somewhere to recover. High Wray was Highly recommended by multiple people, and my daughter's friends parents live there. I am independent, and I was anxious about being in a care home as I am not 'old' and at that stage of my life. I had a garden room with french doors onto my own garden terrace, which was so lovely for my stay during the summer. The food is excellent and the restaurant quality. If it is was not for the coronavirus pandemic, I would definitely return for lunch as a day visitor. All the staff I met were very polite, kind and understanding. The staff helped me with my Ipad connection and downloaded programmes for me to watch. High Wray has an in house hairdresser, which was very much appreciated, as I had not managed to get to the hairdressers with being in lockdown. Cleaners attended my room every day, and I can honestly say it was spotless. The whole place was welcoming, and I am thankful to all the staff.

The care and support given at High Wray is outstanding. The staff team shows exemplary levels of care and understanding of the needs of residents. They are sensitive, supportive and offer a personal approach. There are obviously excellent interpersonal relationships between the staff, at all levels, displaying respect, courtesy and a good sense of humour. The standards and range of facilities are very high, including a stimulating programme of activities and various forms of communication with relatives. Every effort is made to ensure relatives can communicate with the residents, particularly in the current restrictions, due to the Covid pandemic. I cannot recommend High Wray enough.

High Wray staff cared for my dad for nearly two years, before his Dementia worsened. I found the staff to be very caring and helpful giving the home a family feel. The home location and environment is excellent. Lovely, both for the resident and those visiting.

My Aunt has been resident at High Wray for several years and despite living at the other end of the country I am able to stay in touch and feel assured that my aunt is very well cared for by the management and staff. Each time I visit, the home is always spotlessly clean and the staff friendly and welcoming.

My relatives have used the services of High Wray for over the past ten years and I have nothing but praise for the whole of the team. There is strong leadership and management in place which is gentle and caring, giving a feeling of security within the care team which is projected to residents. The collective experience of the staff contributes to this atmosphere.

When the need arises, it can be easily demonstrated how the care team's skill interfaces well with medical staff and other external agencies to propagate security. Members of the team have been known to me over this period of time which shows the stability of the home and there is a clear direction that residents are living in their own home with freedom and not institutionalised. Excellent facilities exist which are well maintained, bright, airy and provision is made for stimulation, games, music, singing, quizzes and excursions. I would not hesitate in recommending High Wray.

At 92, my mother was determined to stay in her own home even though it was becoming ever more difficult as her mobility and confidence declined. She reluctantly agreed to try High Wray for a week.
On the day she came home, she said, "I want to go back straight away and live there. I felt safe there and I know I'm not safe at home".
So she moved to High Wray, to a lovely room with beautiful views. Within a couple of months, she looked and acted years younger. She has been there for a year now, and always says how nice it is and how well she is looked after. The staff are friendly and very caring and they make her laugh; they keep a close eye on her health and if there is a hint of a problem they call the doctor and make sure that it is sorted.

Thank goodness for High Wray.

My parents first had a short term stay in High Wray about five years ago, since then Mum has had several more short stays and is now a permanent resident. The home is always clean, tidy, welcoming and odour free. Many of the staff remember my Dad which is a comfort to Mum. Everyone from management, office, catering and of course, the care staff are friendly and approachable the managers door is always open, not only for residents but also family, as there are times when we need support too. Should residents be a little bit slow with morning mobility, they are able to have breakfast in their own room. Mum enjoys the food and there is always a choice. Most days there are activities and a hairdresser every week for a spot of pampering. The outdoor space is scenic and is easily accessible for all. Acknowledging that a loved one needs more care than you can give them is upsetting and the transition is not easy but High Wray has helped endlessly. Thank you for that and for the care.

We have found the care and support at High Wray excellent. The Manager was very caring and patient, making an assessment of needs and time and considerable effort has been taken, by the range of staff, in working out and managing day to day needs. The care and patience of the staff are outstanding, this takes away much of the anxiousness. Supervising the medication, at the correct times of the day, has also made a positive difference. The food is wonderful. As a family, we are very happy that the Resident is safe and managed. Visitors are encouraged to visit when they like and are made welcome. The lounge with its size, open aspect and views is a really wonderful space. There are often activities going on there, which is great. The bedroom is really lovely and is well cared for. Haircare and nail care is also a welcome support service.

When my mother became ill, we were fortunate to find High Wray Care Home in Aughton. The care was wonderful as all my mother's needs were catered for and she had a wonderful time there until she, unfortunately, passed away. Subsequently, when my father became unable to care for himself, we had no hesitation in contacting High Wray who once again were willing to look after him as well. He was looked after with so much care and attention that I do not think we could have looked after him so well if he had stayed at home.

Thank you to all at High Wray Care Home.

My brother suffered a stroke. He wanted a couple of weeks respite. It is self-funded, so, we looked at reviews and asked around for recommendations etc. rather than trying pot luck. High Wray was mentioned in conversations so I rang to make an appointment to inspect. I was told no need to and just turn up. So that is what we did.
Loads of parking and easy access to the ramp. We were well received by the manager and were made to feel welcome.
We were duly shown around. The views from the respite rooms were stunning. There were no smells of poor housekeeping and the place was very clean and well presented. Plenty of staff around and plenty of smiles too. A lift to all floors. We were very impressed and he decided he would book.
The verdict: My brother cannot praise the staff enough! The staff have obviously indulged him and they have bolstered his confidence. "Food was good and the banter even better" he said.
I asked him would he go back? "In a heartbeat," he replied.

Enough said!

My brother moved into High Wray in February 2018 after looking at several other local nursing homes. And I can honestly say we made the best choice.

High Wray once a family home was extended and adapted to suit the resident's needs. It has one big lounge with a glass wall, a wonderful sun-trap. This lounge is used for celebrations. And also in this lounge, there is a huge TV screen. The smaller lounge has beautiful wood panels and floor to ceiling windows. The dining room is light and airy. My brother's room is big enough for his own furniture and possessions, so, comfy for him and a lot like home.

As for care, it could not be better. His every need is seen to, from nursing to personal needs to cleaning his room. The staff are excellent, from managerial, to office, nursing and cleaning. Nothing is too much trouble, everyone there is always cheerful and happy to give residents their time. The staff no matter how busy are still always sensitive to resident's needs.
