Overview

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Meadow Bank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 21 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Meadow Bank Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.279 for Meadow Bank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (116 Excellents x 5) + (93 Goods x 4) + (30 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 247 Ratings = 4.279

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.667 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Meadow Bank Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 24 positive Reviews (120 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 16 Reviews ÷ 24 Target = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My review of Meadow Bank is mainly good. It is just lacking on the activities side. I just feel that the residents with dementia have nothing going on to try and stimulate them.

Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Meadow Bank Care Home responded to this review on 22 May 2018:

Thank you for your review; we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are delighted with your positive ratings and that you are pleased overall with the service. We have recently had a vacancy for an Activity Co-ordinator which unfortunately impacted on our provision of our usual high standard of activities to our Residents. Happily, we have now recruited two new Activity Co-ordinators; one of which will be dedicated to activity provision for Residents living with dementia. Following induction, this will take our regular team of Activity Co-ordinators to four. Additionally, an Activity Co-ordinator who is well known to many of our Residents and regular visitors, will continue to help out on an ad hoc basis with special events, reminiscence and other activities specifically tailored towards dementia care. We are certain you will see a great improvement in activities offered; you are very welcome to discuss any aspects of care or concerns you may have in more detail with the management team at any time.

My daughter and I have visited my wife 5 days out of every 7. We are so pleased with your home in all respects. The staff is very diligent in carrying out their responsibilities to the patients which has impressed us so much.
All areas including external paths, gardens and parking areas are well kept. We have had no reasons to complain and my wife appears relaxed in her surroundings.

Brother-in-law rather reluctant to spend his last days in a care home. It appeared that he quickly settled in and he was happy. I was delighted with the care and attention he received and could not fault the staff. His care was dignified and we as visitors were treated with respect. Well done staff in Ribble unit.

I find Beech Hurst at Meadow Bank a wonderful, caring place. My only complaint is the TV on all day (no music) most residents can't see or hear it. Sometimes residents are moved without being told they are going to be moved. The atmosphere in Beech Hurst is relaxed and residents treated as individuals. Staff are caring and on the whole very professional.

Thank you for your review; we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We were delighted to hear your lovely comments about Meadowbank and our staff, thank you.
We have taken on board your comments about the television and this has been discussed with staff in our daily team meetings. We have also completed staff supervisions to remind all staff of communicating with residents whilst they are offering care assistance - this will be monitored closely by the Home Manager going forward.

My mum has been a resident with Alzheimer's at Meadow Bank for 18 months now and in that time has not only settled well but has thrived. In my opinion, this is due to her feeling safe and secure with a daily routine carried out by familiar staff.
However, I do feel that weak management lets the care home down in terms of poor cleanliness and lack of activities for the residents.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are so pleased your Mother has settled in well at Meadowbank, and that she is thriving. Following the recent takeover of the Home by HC-One, we are changing our cleaning products and reviewing and upgrading our suppliers. Together with the organised training, we are certain positive changes will be noticed. The same has been done for our activities, these are under review and training for staff has been arranged. Please don’t hesitate to bring any concerns you might have to the attention of Management so that they can be immediately rectified.

My mum was transferred to Meadow Bank in September 2017 from another nursing home. She is looked after well, her room is clean and bright and the food is good. Mum has settled in well and is quite happy.

Mum's care is acceptable, but I do feel staffing levels could be better. The lounge could have a member of staff as well as the hostess.
Interaction with residents could be increased too.

My father was a resident in Beech House at Meadowbank for 4 and a half years. At all times, he was treated with respect and dignity by all the staff who grew to love him for his personality. Usually smiling, laughing, facial expressions and winked and blinked at the female staff. His wishes were respected, as were mine, and nothing was too much trouble.

This clothing was carefully washed and ironed and kept in good condition at all times. The housekeeping staff kept the unit clean and tidy at all times when his condition deteriorated and he subsequently died. He had the wonderful care which could not be faulted, he died peacefully and with dignity in my arms with my husband and nurses supporting us. They were just wonderful.

My husband has been a resident on Sabrina Unit at Meadow Bank since December 2015. He settled in quickly due to the care and attention given to him by the staff and nurses. He has now been a resident for 20 months and is still very settled. The staff really care about the residents and I continue to be impressed by their unfailing hard work to ensure their residents feel "at home". The unit and rooms are kept clean and tidy and the food is a very good standard. There is an entertainment coordinator on the unit and she tries very hard to do something for everyone. Nurses, carers, cleaners and entertainment staff run this challenging behaviour unit well. Any concerns are dealt with quickly and efficiently by the unit manager.

Meadow Bank is an example to the rest - it must be in the top 10!!
All staff, I repeat, ALL staff display constant love and care for their residents.
Their pay is far too low for what they do - It is a total disgrace that money is thrown away on foreign aid - my tax and many others!!
Working in the main 12-hour shifts is only possible because they are truly dedicated - it's a vocation.
7 day laundry - excellent food - superb housekeeping. Small management unit - first class.

Thank you for your review. I'm so glad to hear that you can enjoy your holidays with peace of mind knowing that your Mum is looked after. Hope to have your Mum stay with us again in the future.

My Mum was transferred to Meadow Bank from another local nursing home that was awful in every way possible and she was very worried about what would await her. I am very pleased to report that the home is fantastic. The rooms are clean, bright and very airy. The food is lovely and they are very accommodating to 'fussy' needs. The staff are wonderful and very upbeat and happy in all that they do and they really do keep the resident's spirits up. The activities are daily, are varied and seem to be enjoyed by all that participate and the resident cat is a lovely touch to keep that feeling of home. Out of my Mum's window and door, she can see ducks and ducklings waddling around and the setting is just lovely. My Mum is cared for, the staff have a keen interest in all the residents and the managers at Meadow Bank seem to run the place perfectly! Mum has settled extremely well and I can relax that she is now in the right place with wonderful care.

I am happy with my mother's care on the Ribb 6 Unit (nursing unit). Her care is not "fixed" on a plan but changes according to her needs and staff have initiative and drive to try new things.
Recently, although mostly cared for in her bed she has started having showers and baths, which she enjoys (although tiring!) She enjoys excellent meals and the nurses and carers are a credit to Bupa. Her views are sought from her or myself. Thank you.

My mother was in respite care while we were away on holiday. Everything went smoothly thanks to the efficiency and help of the receptionist and the staff in general. My only quibble was that there appears to have been a mix up in the laundry system which was not even requested. Some items of underwear have gone missing and she came home with a skirt that was not hers (since returned).

I have had 8 Christmases here visiting my dad. This year was exceptional, the staff were wonderful. It was such a happy day all round. Lots of people visited, everyone was dressed in Xmas jumpers and hats. The meal was excellent. One resident who's first Xmas it was, said it was 300% better than she expected. It couldn't have been any better on any level, it didn't feel like a nursing home. It just felt like a big party.
