From the moment we walked in the door, we knew this was the best place for our Dad. It is more like a hotel. The rooms are individually well decorated light and clean. The food is outstanding!
But most important the staff are like family members. They were ALL there for us every step of the way. The
care and compassion showed to our family will never be forgotten - I would 100% recommend Spen Court to anyone.
Reply from Paula Pearson, GM at Barchester Spen Court Care HomeThank you for such a lovely review , it was a pleasure to care for your dad during his stay with us. I will of course pass on the lovely comments to all the team.

I do believe the TV in the lounge should be on during the day I have visited my mother from time to time when no TV or radio are not on for redents. All residents just seem to sleep which I dont think it is good for them nothing to stimulate there minds there is activities but not long enough to keep
them stimulated, my mother does like to meet other residents also likes to watch TV during the day so she dosnt like to sit in her room during the day
Reply from Paula, GM at Barchester Spen Court Care HomeThank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback. Music is playing for the majority of the days throughout the home however we have had occasion where by the music system was not working correctly, this has since been mended. Each resident has access to their own televisions in their bedrooms so this gives them the freedom to choose if they would like to watch television or not . Activities are tailored to the residents choices and we provide activities on a daily basis of which the residents can choose to participate. All the staff work hard at providing a varied choice of activities to meet the needs of all our residents. Thank you again for your comments of which I will pass on to the activities team to review.

Mum was a resident from October 2024. From day 1 she was made welcome and treated with dignity & respect. Nothing was too much for the carers, if Mum wanted something they would go above & beyond to accomodate her needs.
All Mums visitors were welcomed, made to feel at home and addressed by their first
names.
We as a family had no worries about leaving her in the care of Spen Court.

Mum has poor mobility and depends on carers to take her to the toilet. She asked two carers the other day in the lounge to take her to the toilet. Both ignored her so she consequently wet herself.
Same on nights.. carers do not answer the call bell when mum needs the toilet.. so she ends up wetting
the bed.
Staff can't be bothered dressing her properly. Found her today in a thin jumper. No underwear underneath.
Pay £1,320 a week for this treatment.

Find my entire visits to the home to be very pleasant. Staff have always been professional and polite to me at all times - also very happy and fun. When the situation arises - (eases & relaxes)
Everytime I visit I help myself to a coffee and cake - no complaints about either.

In the many years my mum has lived here she has always been treated with dignity & respect from all members of staff whatever their position. This has continued as her condition has deteriated. I have nothing but admiration for the staff at Spen Court & see on a regular basis how they continually go
above & beyond often in challenging circumstances. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Spen Court to family & friends.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.683)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.683) out of 10 for Barchester Spen Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.683 for Barchester Spen Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (266 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 341 Ratings = 4.683
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Spen Court Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
