The Granby offers elegance and style and is a place in which residents feel pampered and cared for. The home provides residential, nursing, and respite care.

The Granby has undergone a full refurbishment, the modernised home includes a welcoming reception area, lounge and bar area and stunning dining room. All rooms have been tastefully redecorated in a number of elegant themes. In addition to this, the home also has a café, wellbeing suite and a luxurious cinema that residents can enjoy.

The lounge at The Granby is the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea and socialise as it looks out across the famous common, The Stray.

There is a superb collection of reading material including books, magazines and papers in the decadent library; now called Lord Byron’s library as this is where the famous bard wrote some of his literary works.

Residents can be treated to a new hairstyle in the hairdressing salon or even relaxing aromatherapy or reflexology sessions in the privacy of their own rooms.

There are attractive grounds in which to relax or take gentle exercise. For the more adventurous there is a seven-seater minibus equipped for wheelchair access which means residents can enjoy excursions both into Harrogate town centre and further afield. A range of recreational activities take place in the beautifully restored and original Crystal Ballroom.

My mother came into the nursing home for respite care. We had looked around a couple of other nursing homes but when we saw The Granby it was very apparent that the ambience and facilities were far superior to other places.
We felt that she received a warm welcome and were pleased with the care that
she received.
As a family, we would be very happy for her to return if the need should arise in the future.

I cannot recommend The Granby highly enough, our wonderful mum who was well known to staff was a real character, she sadly passed away on the 19th January but her few months spent in The Granby were very special.


We cannot commend the staff highly enough they are just brilliant, always caring, sharing

a laugh with mum and being very patient as mum had mild dementia.


They made her last 2 weeks very comfortable and you could tell they cared for mum and us family as we were also looked after with their support.


We as a family will always be eternally grateful for all they did, the manager and the team are just wonderful.


We miss our mum terribly but we rest knowing that she had the best care not only from us but particularly from the staff that she adored


This place is not like a normal care home but more like a 5-star hotel, it's just beautiful


Highly recommended.

Visited for respite. The section I was resident in is under refurbishment. The work and design is to a very high standard, worthy of the best hotels. Work in progress gave some inconvenience but the tradesmen were polite, considerate and helpful. The new lift will be a great improvement and the ballroom
"should be listed" and the sprung floor preserved. My room was comfortable and quiet with shower room, good adjustable bed and TV. Maintenance staff were helpful.


Service was at the end of a button with a quick response. Heating was adequate but needed controls. Reception rooms were of a high standard, with beverages served, and also the use of a snack bar. Food was of acceptable quality but there was a limited menu for residents who are not mobile and had eating problems, therefore not always to my requirements. I did not require medical assistance, however, it was comforting to know it was available. The respite visit helped my recovery, however I am fitter than many of the residents.

We are very grateful that a room was provided at short notice to help out in an emergency. The building is very elegant, well maintained and is being upgraded.
Once the upgrade is complete there will be a larger lift, which will be a great help for users in wheelchairs.
The staff are friendly and
seem professional, although not always as proactive as they could be in offering help.
This resident spent more time in her room than she wanted, apparently because staff were not always available to help her to access the public rooms.

My mother was in The Granby for about 3 years. Throughout her stay, the staff always showed a very high level of care. The food was good, the home was clean and bright with attractive pictures on the wall and generally gave the impression of a good hotel rather than a care home. There seemed to be a
wide range of activities available although my mother wasn't interested. There were a few faults, mainly the home's inability to return the resident's own clothes to them after laundering, but I can't speak highly enough of the staff. My mother was bedridden for her last 6 months but never developed a bed sore and was always kept comfortable. The staff never gave the impression of anything being too much trouble. I have heard so many stories of homes where residents were neglected in some way, even expensive homes, but I never experienced this at The Granby and could not recommend it more.

The atmosphere has been lifted. The air smells fresh it is cleaner and there are more staff. Residents lounge is never left without a member of staff. Staff talk to residents and are alert to what residents are doing.

I find 95% of the staff very good, friendly, caring and always happy no matter what they have to do. Sometimes the food can be good but others poor.
Spend a lot of time in the dining room at meal times and surprised how much food is sent back from residents.
Why when you go in for supper the cook
has gone home when people ask for something else.
Also, old people do not want so much pasta and spaghetti and pizza.
If I had a complaint that would be it.
But as I say, I'm 95% happy.

There is at present a great deal of complete refurbishment taking place which will not be completed until September. The staffing was recently depleted when a new home was opened at Knaresborough. Quite a few of the staff who lived there moved to be nearer to home. A much more accurate description will
be available when the work is completed.

Over the last 8 years, standards have dropped and fees have increased by around 6% a year compound interest. These increases are not justifiable and will if they continue, prohibit recruitment of customers.
Management has been constantly changing and therefore continuity lacking. Investment in the
building has been minimal apart from "window dressing."
Recent investment in the home in the form of refurbishment and staffing by the new company and the appointment of a new general manager and unit manager allows for a degree of optimism. However, we will wait and see.

For nearly 3 years, I have visited my 95-year-old aunt on a weekly basis and the staff have always been very courteous and cheerful, whilst carrying out their duties.
The recent refurbishment project is going to take The Granby up another level and will be a vast improvement to residents and visitors.

So far only a short time here, but a very enjoyable time. Including a very interesting and fun time out. So far all my needs have been met. One thing one could not find better, staff for help and friendliness which I needed.
One complaint, the shower room, more water ends up flooding the floor and
sometimes the carpet, however careful one is. Thank you to staff.

The staff are very caring. The management seem to change far too regularly to give real confidence in the long term direction of what should be a successful care home. The costs seem very high by comparison to other homes in the area.

The Granby is a welcoming and impressive home where the residents are well cared for. The atmosphere is usually cheerful and comfortable. The fabric of the building and rooms is best described as faded elegance but I understand a refurbishment programme is in hand. Otherwise it seems clean and tidy
and has a fresh atmosphere.
