My mother was a resident of Craghall Care Home for just over two years. She sadly died on 29/11/2023. The care and love she received, and indeed our family, was exemplary. The care team are a dedicated, cohesive and hard-working group of people. The support we all received made us feel part of the Craghall

Choosing the right care home for a loved one can be a very emotional and daunting experience yet from our very first meeting with the manager, we knew we’d chosen the perfect place for our beloved mum. The environment and the quality of care provided at Craghall are, we believe, second to none and during
the final four weeks of her life there the entire team proved to be utterly outstanding. End-of-life care is truly a vocation and every single member of staff from domestic and catering, through entertainment, daily care and management afforded both my mum and us, her family, the utmost respect, kindness, compassion and love. We truly cannot thank them enough for everything they did to make her last days the most comfortable they could have been and for taking us all under their wing during this time. Nothing, however small, was too much trouble for them and we will never forget this or them. They are an absolutely outstanding group of women.

My mum was a resident at Craghall Care Home for almost two and a half years and throughout this time she received exceptional care and support. She sadly became quite poorly in November and we as a family opted for her to remain at Craghall until she passed away as she had created such a strong bond
with the wonderful team of carers and staff. My mum suffered from Dementia so remaining in familiar surroundings with loving and caring people was very important to her and provided immense support to myself and family during this difficult time. I can honestly say I have never felt so truly grateful to a group of individuals from domestic staff to kitchen assistants, carers and the whole management team. Every person showed the utmost care and respect to not only my mum but to our entire family. I will remain truly grateful to Crahall for making my mum's final years and days as special as they possibly could be and recommend them to anyone looking for a care home specialising in dementia.

Craghall staff are always very caring and have the interests of the residents at their heart. Everyone is very friendly and very accommodating to visiting relatives. The setting of Craghall is lovely and in the summer we enjoy going into the grounds. I would recommend Craghall to anyone.

My mum has been in the care home for five months. She has dementia and has settled in reasonably well. She is treated with dignity and respect and is given good care from all staff.
Mum engages with the activities and is encouraged to do so. The staff have a good understanding of my mum's likes and
dislikes and tailor activities accordingly.
She is always happy when staff engage with her. She gets frustrated and upset at things and wants to be home, but this is more to do with her diagnosis rather than care she is receiving.

It was decided by family, that after over three years of looking after my wife, my health needed a break! The staff are super, always cheerful and there to lend a hand. Craghall was the third care home we tried for my uncle when he returned to the UK. The first two were ok; however, it has only been since he moved to Craghall that he has felt completely happy. The care home building and large gardens are lovely and very well-kept. The staff and residents are extremely
nice, and I don't think we could have found a better place than Craghall.

I was both surprised and relieved at how well my mother has settled into Craghall as she was always so independent. It took a little while but the staff are so nice and friendly with her that she now feels very much at home. Unfortunately, old age is robbing her of her memory so when I ask what she's
been doing or what she had for lunch she can't remember but I'm told she does participate and she certainly looks well on it. Craghall is well situated on the edge of Jesmond dene park with a lovely garden to sit in during the summer which made it a bit easier to cope with the restrictions imposed during covid. So I'm satisfied that my mother is in a good place for this stage in her life.

The decision for Mam to go into a care home was taken out of our hands by her consultant, it took a little while for her to settle in but a move to a room downstairs did the trick. Since then I couldn't ask for better care for her, the staff are all friendly and down to earth and nothing is too much
trouble mam really enjoys the food especially the puddings! Even though the home is on a busy road when you're in the grounds you feel like you're in the middle of the countryside. I have peace of mind that mam is looked after properly 24/7. I have thought about negatives concerning the home and can say I can't name any.

Majority of residents suffer mental health issues which is upsetting and often uncomfortable to be in the lounge at the same time as I do not suffer from dementia.
Being sat at mealtimes with alike people (residents) helps but is not guaranteed and can cause me anxiety associated with this.

Not having dealt with another care home it is difficult to know good/bad a place is. I have found staff helpful and friendly in the difficult Covid times. Mam has taken a while to settle but has been well supported.
I actually feel a survey/review like this would be much better if done at a local level
and some observations could be made without it appearing as a complaint.

On the whole, the senior staff listen and try to do their best to resolve any difficulty or problem/complaint they receive. The less senior carers can vary, depending on the pressures they may be feeling under at the time and may just hope the problem/complaint will "go away" without receiving attention.

My wife and I have been at Craghall Care Home for five years. My wife has Alzheimer's disease and over the years her symptoms have become more severe so that she is now bedridden. The care she has received during this time has been exemplary so we were dismayed when management said they felt that Craghall
couldn't provide the care she needs and she would need to move to a nursing home. We are currently looking at moving homes but I shall be very surprised if we find a nursing home that provides the tender loving care she has received at Craghall.

I know my mam has been well looked after over the years. I was very impressed how the home/company responded to the mega challenges Covid-19 gave them. They closed their doors straight away to visits and kept us informed on what was going on with the ever-changing rules.
The care I have witnessed to
the support given to my 91-year-old mam, with advanced dementia, has been a great comfort to my family.
I cannot thank the home enough for their outstanding care and support.

My mam moved into Craghall six months ago as she has onset dementia. This was a tough decision for us to make as a family, but the staff have made this difficult time as straightforward as possible. All the care workers are kind, considerate and welcoming and treat my mother with dignity and respect.
The home is set in magnificent gardens with lovely flowers with regular activities, entertainment and outings, which provide mental, social and physical well being. We have no worries or concerns Mam has settled in well; it gives us peace of mind to know she is safe and well looked after.

Mum had a very difficult year in 2019 as her health and cognitive abilities declined considerably. Following a hip replacement and 2 episodes of seizures, we were concerned that Craghall might say they couldn't meet her needs. Far from it, they have been so accommodating and understanding of her increasing
vulnerability. The staff are very caring and there is a lovely atmosphere in the home. The thoughtful and excellent range of activities should also be commended.

Christine has worked in the care sector for almost 20 years, with 16 of them being at Wellburn Care as Manager at Craghall. Christine has her NVQ Level 4 and her registered manager's award. Christine enjoys the difference Wellburn make to both the residents and their families' lives- providing the care residents need and giving families peace of mind that their relative is safe.

Chelsea

Chelsea McBeth

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2015

Chelsea started her career with Wellburn Care Homes in August 2015, when she joined our Eighton Lodge care home as a Care Assistant. Chelsea then progressed to Team Leader, before being promoted to Deputy Manager in March 2018. Chelsea has gained vast knowledge in all aspects of person-centred care and caring for residents with dementia, and her aim is to make sure all of her residents are happy within their homes. In 2021, Chelsea’s continued dedication, hard work & vast knowledge saw her promoted to Home Manager of Eighton Lodge. At the beginning of 2022, Chelsea relocated to Craghall care home as a Deputy Manager, where she is now supporting her new team!
