My wife and I have been at Craghall Care Home for five years. My wife has Alzheimer's disease and over the years her symptoms have become more severe so that she is now bedridden. The care she has received during this time has been exemplary so we were dismayed when management said they felt that Craghall
couldn't provide the care she needs and she would need to move to a nursing home. We are currently looking at moving homes but I shall be very surprised if we find a nursing home that provides the tender loving care she has received at Craghall.
Reply from Wellburn Care Homes, Marketing Co-ordinator at CraghallThank you for the review, we are glad to hear that you are loving Craghall and have enjoyed living there over the last five years. We want to make sure that each and every resident of the home is having all of their needs met because everyone deserves the best tailored to their care needs - if we feel that we can't cater to someone's needs, we strongly believe in making sure they are receiving the care they deserve, which is why we sometimes recommend looking for options that include nursing.

I know my mam has been well looked after over the years. I was very impressed how the home/company responded to the mega challenges Covid-19 gave them. They closed their doors straight away to visits and kept us informed on what was going on with the ever-changing rules.
The care I have witnessed to
the support given to my 91-year-old mam, with advanced dementia, has been a great comfort to my family.
I cannot thank the home enough for their outstanding care and support.
Reply from Wellburn Care Homes, Marketing Co-ordinator at CraghallHi Lynn, it's lovely to hear that your family has had peace of mind throughout Covid with all the changes we all had to adapt to. Keeping families as informed as possible and residents as safe as possible were priorities during the height of the pandemic and continue to be a priority today. Our teams work hard to make sure this is the case at all times and if you need to get in touch at any point, feel free to contact the home itself or the enquiries team at head office.

My husband has been very content at Craghall Care Home. He was, in the past, a very active, leading person, so his contentment has been a great comfort to myself and also to the family. We have given much acclaim to the kindness of all the staff.

My mam moved into Craghall six months ago as she has onset dementia. This was a tough decision for us to make as a family, but the staff have made this difficult time as straightforward as possible. All the care workers are kind, considerate and welcoming and treat my mother with dignity and respect.
The home is set in magnificent gardens with lovely flowers with regular activities, entertainment and outings, which provide mental, social and physical well being. We have no worries or concerns Mam has settled in well; it gives us peace of mind to know she is safe and well looked after.

Since my mum went into Craghall Care Home in Jesmond, she has come along fine. She interacts with everyone.
The staff are so loving and caring. I'm a nurse myself and the care is outstanding, they deserve an award.

Mum had a very difficult year in 2019 as her health and cognitive abilities declined considerably. Following a hip replacement and 2 episodes of seizures, we were concerned that Craghall might say they couldn't meet her needs. Far from it, they have been so accommodating and understanding of her increasing
vulnerability. The staff are very caring and there is a lovely atmosphere in the home. The thoughtful and excellent range of activities should also be commended.

My grandmother has lived at Craghill for two years now and is very well settled there. I would highly recommend this care home. The staff are very friendly, caring and approachable and I have always found them to be very supportive. My grandmother has always been treated with dignity and respect. The
care home is impeccably clean and tidy and bedrooms are neat and tidy. My grandmother really enjoys all the activities that take place most days, especially the musical sing-alongs, mini-golf and having her nails painted. Christmas was a magical time at Craghall with so many activities going on.
It was lovely to see local children singing Christmas carols and a lovely member of staff dancing with my grandmother at the Xmas party.
As a family, we feel very lucky that my grandmother is so well cared for at Craghall. There is a real "togetherness" and homely feel at Craghall.

My wife left hospital with an inoperable brain tumour and went to Craghall in September 2019. My wife was incontinent and unable to walk or feed herself after approximately 3 weeks. She wanted me with her all of the time so I spent every day at the home. The staff were absolutely top rate with both
my wife and me. With all her problems, we still had days out on their bus.
I can't speak highly enough about the home and hope to volunteer to help soon.

The moment we went into Craghall to visit, we knew immediately this was the place for Mum. The surroundings are beautiful, together with excellent, caring staff. The daily activities are wonderful and it is obvious the residents enjoy them. Dining facilities and laundry care are also excellent. Hairdressing
option is much appreciated too.

The care that my mother received at Craghall was magnificent. She was shown kindness and respect throughout her time there.
The palliative care she received was outstanding, enabling her to have a peaceful and comfortable death. Members of staff went out of their way to help her - one carer even visited
her on her days off. I could not have chosen a better place for my mother to live. Thank you everyone.

This is the 2nd time my mother has been in Craghall for respite while we were on holiday. She thoroughly enjoyed her stay. My Mum took part in activities and took home some of her achievements. There was the opportunity to go on a couple of trips which she enjoyed. I have always found the staff pleasant
and helpful and my Mum has only praise for them. She is looking forward to when she can return.

This review is based on a limited number of visits but I am pleased to inform you that I am very satisfied with the care that Craghall is offering. The staff morale is (relatively) high and the management are attentive, polite and efficient. The staff members I have met all appear to have a competent,
respectful approach so without going over the top my view is that this care home os offering exemplary care.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.869)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.869) out of 10 for Craghall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.869 for Craghall is calculated as follows: ( (294 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 335 Ratings = 4.869
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Craghall is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
