Welcome to Earsdon Grange

Located in the residential area of Wellfield, less than 2 miles from the seaside town of Whitley Bay, Earsdon Grange is an award-winning purpose-built care home offering residential and dementia residential care as well as respite breaks.

The home is a two-storey building with a secure garden located at the back of the home and patio and gardens at the front. The ground floor of the home houses residential clients and has a coffee shop with a conservatory attached, TV lounge and dining room. The first floor of the home has a cinema room, lounge and dining room for dementia residents to enjoy.   

Food is a huge aspect of the care at Earsdon Grange and the home has a 5-star Food Hygiene rating. The Cook loves home baking and bakes fresh scones, cakes, birthday cakes daily in the kitchen for the hospitality trolley as well as a choice of breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper at the home. Friday is always fish and chips and Sunday they have a roast dinner.

The home is accessible by car and has a small car park at the front of the home in the unnumbered bays as well as on-street parking. The closest Metro Station to the home is West Monkseaton located on Earsdon Road or the local buses 57, 57A, W1 and W1A which have a pickup and drop off point at the Metro Station and then a .05 mile walk to the home.

Earsdon Grange benefits from strong links to the local community thanks to a full-time activities coordinator who provides a programme of activities, entertainment, and events that the residents can choose from.

I feel that the care in the home has decreased over the last year as the staff are always running around. Very little time to spend with the people who they are caring for. The whole team are lovely but feel people at the top need to look at this.

Mum is very content at Earsdon Grange Care Home. The staff are patient and caring telling her what is happening to her. They also keep me well informed about her especially if any problems occur. Everyone is welcoming and we are encouraged to come and see her at any time.

The reception is very cheerful.

My partner has been going to Earsdon Grange for regular respite visits for the past couple of years. The staff are brilliant with him and he enjoys going there. I feel happy when I leave him there knowing he will be well looked after and safe. Any issues that arise are quickly dealt with.

There is lots going on at Earsdon Grange and lots to keep me busy and entertained.


My room is pleasant and I like the outdoor areas and the gardens are very nice.


The staff have been good but it's a shame that they don't have more time. Some staff are exceptional and always make an effort.


I

feel that the food could be improved, in particular, the pastry and chips have been cold.

While we do always try to make the time to regularly chat with everyone, we do have busy times in the home when we, unfortunately, don’t get as much time as we’d like to socialise but we are always looking at ways to improve the experience and happiness of our residents and staff. With regards to your comments about the food, we apologise that you received a meal that wasn’t served to your preferred temperature. We want to continually improve our services and regularly request feedback and meal requests from residents so I will address your comments with our kitchen team.

We are very happy with the care my granny receives, lovely staff, welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Lots of activities going on, great that hairdresser comes and granny loves getting her nails done.

Mum had lived at Earsdon Grange for almost 2 years when she sadly passed away in December. Without exception, the staff delivered exceptional care and maintained her dignity at all times. Due to her dementia, occasionally she was uncertain of her environment but there was always a reassuring word from
staff to put her at her ease. We can not thank them enough for the love and care she received. We feel that what sets Earsdon Grange apart from other care homes we had visited is the level of entertainment and activities available for the residents, providing a stimulating and engaging environment for all. As a family, we felt particularly involved through the weekly coffee mornings which enabled us to meet with other residents and families.

Earsdon Grange Care Home is a nice home. I would like more choice for the food menu.
My room is nice and clean. The staff are great they are always friendly and happy.
I think it is a shame that it is so costly to stay here per week.

With regards to your feedback on preferring more menu choices, along with the two choices available each mealtime we also offer alternative meal choices if neither choice suit and I will remind the staff that they should be offering these every mealtime. We are going to be holding our next menu forum in January so if you have any suggestions for menu options you’d like to see then please let us know.

My father was a resident at Earsdon Grange for two years until his death in July.
I was informed of everything doctors visits, any problems that arose I was informed of.
The staff were excellent with the care my father received he was content and myself and my sister were happy to see this. When he
died they treated my father and us with so much dignity. They made his death easier for us.

Hello my name is Nicola Bell, I am the Registered Manager of Earsdon Grange care home, which is situated in Whitley Bay.

I have worked in the Health Care profession since 2002 starting as a care assistant and working my way to Home Manager. I have completed my NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care and level 5 in Leadership and Management.


Earsdon Grange is a two story building with 48 rooms and 48 staff working in the home. We encourage people to visit us anytime and see for themselves the positive and friendly atmosphere that the team have, who work at Earsdon Grange care home.
