Rated ‘Good’ by regulator CQC in July 2020, Paddock Stile Manor care home is nestled in the town of Houghton-le-Spring, halfway between Durham and Sunderland, offering dementia, residential and short-term respite care.

The home provides 40 spacious and comfortable en-suite rooms, all decorated with modern and bright fittings. Many of the residents have lived in the home for a long while and have built up close relationships with staff members.

Several communal lounges within the home offer space for residents to take time out to relax, spend time with friends and family or get involved in activities. The dedicated Activity Coordinator prepares a diverse schedule of events, residents can often be found playing the piano, singing along to some music or having a good old dance. The home also has an in-house parlour, ‘Sophies Salon’ where residents can get their nails or hair done and be pampered.

My mum was a resident here for a number of years, and she was always cared for with the best care and attention at all times. During the last few weeks of her life, the staff and management went above and beyond for our mum and for all our family. The care and attention were beyond excellent.
During
her stay here, there were always various activities happening, which Mum enjoyed engaging with, which made us as a family happy knowing Mum was cared for when we were not there. The staff and management became Mum's extended family and were loved by her and us all.

I'm genuinely pleased with the care given and my friend in care has thrived since being admitted. Her hair is thicker and she has gained weight (which was imperative to her health). All staff are marvellous, the only thing I would like to see occasionally is 50s/60s music played in the background instead
of a television blasting (residents are oblivious to it) music of a residents era can be stimulating and pleasant.

Can't fault the care that Mam has been given since going to the home. From keeping me informed about how Mam settled to ringing if they have any concerns, they have been excellent.
Having Mam say 'I feel safe here' means everything to me. The staff are really friendly and approachable when we visit.
A fantastic place, can't recommend them enough.

I am very happy with the support and care that is given to my mam. The staff are always very polite and very helpful. The home is kept clean. Always welcomed in the home with very good security. Overall, I would really recommend this home to look into for their family. Very happy with my mam's progress

My mam's been in since January 2023, and the improvement of my mam is brilliant. She was not responding to life, but now she is up and in a chair, eats brilliantly, and she is awake a lot for conversations. Paddock Stile Manor is the best place for my mam - she is so happy.

As I work full time, I visit mainly once per week, on occasion twice. I feel safe in the knowledge that my mother is being looked after and is safe. I have issues getting my mother to sit in her room when visiting. I am always welcome to get a chair and sit with her wherever she feels comfortable. The

Having been researching care home that would be able to accommodate a short period of respite care for my brother-in-law who has advanced stage dementia, Paddock Stile Manor were able to assist. We were very reluctant due to him not being away from his family, only trusting those he knew, but the care
and support they gave him were second to none. With constant reassurance that he was safe with them. I spoke to them daily over the phone and kept me updated on his well-being. The manager and her team are passionate about their roles. Brilliant!

My mam was only in Paddock Stile Manor for two weeks. I can say the care and attention she was given were excellent. Nothing was a problem to anyone. The staff were also great to visitors, again nothing a problem.

My mum has been a resident at Paddock Stile Manor for over 18 months now and I have to admit I was worried when she first went there as she doesn't like change, but the staff have been absolutely brilliant with her. She has settled in well and when I visit she tells me about her 'friends' (that's how
she sees them) coming to help her and talk with her every day. They make sure she is happy and contented but more than that, they treat their residents as though they were their own family, right down to playing board games with them and doing their nails, to make her "look pretty"! I am happy and confident that my mum is being looked after, so when I work away and can't visit for a week or so, I know she is in good hands. I would highly recommend Paddock Stile to anyone whose parent is suffering from dementia and needs the extra care they give.

Since the difficult decision was made for my Mother to be placed into care, the staff have done everything possible to settle and reassure her in her new surroundings. The manager is amazing and it's obvious she knows and cares for my mother. I feel my mother is in the best possible place to meet her

My dad has been in for 8 weeks now and has been treated very well. Everyone has welcomed him in the home, the carers have been amazing with him. I feel much better in myself, dad is safe and management are amazing.

My mother is being cared for in Paddock Stile and whilst sadly her health needs are now so great we are unable to now look after her. We know how much the staff care for her and it means the world to us that she is looked after by the team with such kindness and understanding of her needs.

I am the son of a resident who has been there for several months. In the short time my mother has been there I find that I can only comment positively on the home and its staff. I contact the home daily and my sisters and brothers visit her when possible during these difficult times due to lockdown
and in the pod system put in place. I find the staff very caring and responsive to questions asked. There are many activities for the residents to partake in and photographs subsequently put on social media so family can view how their loved ones are enjoying their stay. I would highly recommend the home to anyone thinking of placing a loved one in care, this is the first time we have done this and would not hesitate to do it again.

Hello, my name is Julie Thompson and I am the Home Manager at Paddock Stile Manor care home in Houghton-le-Spring. I have worked in the care sector since 1997 as a Care Assistant and became Home Manager in 2015. I was delighted to receive an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2016 when completing a higher-level Leadership and Management Diploma. I joined Orchard Care Homes in August 2020 as Home Manager at Paddock Stile Manor.
