It's my first experience of a nursing home so I can only say what I see. The staff are very friendly and helpful but I just don't think there is enough of them.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at The Grange Care HomeDear Richard, thank you for taking the time to share your observations and feedback about your first experience of a care home. You did tell me that it was a good experience, that Mom was comfortable and you stated that the support staff had also given you was incomparable. We would like to reassure you that we are committed to maintaining sufficient staffing levels to provide the highest standards of care at all times. The Grange Care Home cannot be faulted. The staff and management go out of their way to make me feel at ease and have been there to sort out any problems or issues. They have supported me and helped me whereas I have had very little support from my GP surgery. The staff at the surgery on the switchboard
are not medically trained and therefore can only say very little to help. The food at The Grange is also very good and I get healthy portions.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Grange Care HomeThank you for your kind words. We're delighted to hear that our staff and management have been able to provide the support and care you need. It's great to know you enjoy the food and feel well cared for at The Grange. Your feedback is truly appreciated and encourages us to continue delivering high-quality care.

There has been a massive improvement to the cleanliness of the home, new carpets have made a massive difference. Love the sensory display and newly decorated lounge. All of this makes a better environment for residents, visitors, family and staff. Great relationship, communication between staff, residents

My father went into the home for respite and a care needs assessment, following a period in hospital due to falls and confusion. He was there for 3 weeks. The manager and all the staff were very caring and responsive to his needs. Dad was very confused and delirious, the staff understood how to look
after him and put his mind at rest. The only reason he didn't remain in the home was that I wanted to find a home nearer to me so that I could visit more often.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Grange Care HomeThank you for sharing your experience with us. We're touched by your kind words and are delighted to hear that your father received compassionate and responsive care during his time at The Grange Care Home. It's heartwarming to know that our team was able to provide comfort and support to him during his period of confusion and delirium. We understand your desire to find a care home closer to you for more frequent visits, and we wish you both the very best in finding the perfect fit. Thank you again for entrusting us with your father's care.

My 95-year-old dad has been a resident at The Grange for 8 months now after becoming unable to manage at home. Unfortunately, his health is declining due to old age but he has settled in now. I am just back from my latest visit and took the opportunity to sit down with the Home Manager, who took me
through his extremely comprehensive care plan which was greatly reassuring. Dad is losing weight and has very little appetite. We discussed his food preferences and she agreed to ensure that dad would be offered his particular food preferences each day as an alternative to the daily menu. She involved a senior staff member and one of the kitchen staff in the discussion to ensure dad’s wishes would be met. Very reassuring. I raised a concern about dad’s low mood at times and she arranged a visit by dad’s GP. I would highly recommend The Grange and would like to pass on my thanks to the Home Manager and every member of her team for their commitment, compassion and excellent level of care.

My personal experience with all the different staff members at The Grange Care Home has been very positive.
My husband has been a resident for 2.5 years, he has advanced dementia and requires help with every aspect of day to day care.
The staff met his needs with care and respect, which isn’t always
an easy task as he can become quite angry due to his dementia.
I know the staff will contact me if they have any concerns. I have the upmost respect for all of them.

My parents moved to The Grange recently. From the very 1st meeting with the assistant manager, I had a good feeling about the place. I visited 3 times, once just on spec, before I made my decision and had the same impression each time. Since they moved in the staff could not have been better. They treat
the residents with kindness and respect and are very supportive of me as well since the process of my parents not being able to look after themselves and having to move to care is quite overwhelming. One parent has settled quite well and is smiling and telling me they are happy, I couldn’t ask for more than that. My other parent is still adjusting and there have been a couple of incidents, both when I was visiting and when I wasn’t the staff reacted so professionally and are being proactive in establishing the source of the issues and getting appropriate help. From the manager to the carers, housekeepers, maintenance team and the admin staff everyone is supportive and wants to do the best for the residents.

I have just moved my mum to The Grange Care Home as her needs have become more and she just wasn’t managing in the supported care of living independently.
After one week she has improved and is eating and drinking and very settled. All the carers are lovely with her and take time to get to know and
understand her needs both mentally and physically.
I don’t normally write reviews, however really pleased to see such an improvement in Mum’s wellbeing in one week.

The Grange Care Home, I would like to thank them for their excellent support and regular communication of my stepmum's health and well-being during the last three years during the Covid-19 pandemic. All staff and management were professional and helpful.
I am always impressed that no matter who I speak
to on visits, all staff always know the whereabouts of my stepmum.
I always feel reassured that her care is in good hands. My stepmum suffers from dementia. As a result, she is totally dependent on the care of the home. The management always advises me of any changes in condition. I am always kept up to date with reviews and the management are always available to discuss any concerns me or family have.
The home has bright and cheerful rooms and a quiet secure garden. The garden is ideal for visits.
The family and I are totally satisfied with The Grange, we admire the hard work and extreme patience of the staff.
Thank you.

My mother moved to The Grange following a prolonged hospital stay. The team there did a great job of getting Mum settled after the disruption of the move and she is now comfortable, happy and well cared for. The manager and the team obviously care a great deal about their residents and their welfare,
which gives me and my family great peace of mind in entrusting them with Mum's ongoing care.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.600)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.600) out of 10 for The Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.600 for The Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (94 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 350 Ratings = 4.6
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Grange Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
