I find The Grange Care Home welcoming to visitors. My friend is well cared for and considerately supported. The weekly coffee morning is a well-organised event. The staff are fabulous with everyone.

On the whole, excellent. There has been some misunderstanding regarding my medical condition recently but the home has been quick to resolve this, which is to their credit. This home is one of the best in the area and I hope it will continue to be so in the long term future.

I have just moved my mum to The Grange Care Home as her needs have become more and she just wasn’t managing in the supported care of living independently.
After one week she has improved and is eating and drinking and very settled. All the carers are lovely with her and take time to get to know and understand her needs both mentally and physically.

I don’t normally write reviews, however really pleased to see such an improvement in Mum’s wellbeing in one week.

My mother moved to The Grange following a prolonged hospital stay. The team there did a great job of getting Mum settled after the disruption of the move and she is now comfortable, happy and well cared for. The manager and the team obviously care a great deal about their residents and their welfare, which gives me and my family great peace of mind in entrusting them with Mum's ongoing care.

My husband has been in The Grange Care Home since 2021, I feel I need to comment on his care. The staff at The Grange are wonderful, they are very professional, caring and very loving towards their residents. They give 110 per cent of their time to their work, led by the manager, I can say this with absolute certainty because I spent one week there after an accident. I am chairman of two organisations dealing with older people and I would have no hesitation in recommending The Grange Care Home to our members.

I would just like to mention that all the staff in the care home including maintenance and office staff, are all very professional. Everyone is very helpful and very pleasant. The manager runs a fantastic crew, she is also a very good leader, top quality, also very professional. I know my wife is in very good hands and well looked after. I would recommend The Grange to anyone. In my eyes, you could never get better staff, first class. Proud of the job they all do.

We could not have wanted any better care than my brother received, especially during the last week of his life. All the staff treated him with dignity, love and respect. As the family of my brother, we were always kept informed of any problem arising and given lots of support by the caring staff.

Review from Gillian E (Daughter of Resident) published on 25 November 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother's medication was not logged on her arrival and she was left without her much-needed pain relief for a day. Her name was logged incorrectly. They sent me 2 letters during my mother's time there. Each was addressed to a different person, neither of them me.
Her hygiene/personal care was not attended to adequately. On one occasion that I am aware of it took 2 hours for my mother to be taken to the toilet after her request.
Residents seemed to be dumped in the reception area rather than being taken to the community lounge.

The whole environment seemed unnecessarily noisy. My mother was very distracted by a constant loud beeping noise outside her room.

I visit my wife at The Grange Care Home every day. I can honestly say that she is "champion" looked after by all staff. I would highly recommend The Grange Care Home. All the staff are very caring and kind and treat me as part of the family. I will happily have all the staff look after me, when the time comes. The manager has an open-door policy, always listens and manages the home very well. I am very thankful to The Grange for all their care.

This review is no reflection of the staff in general, it is more to do with my brother. If he has no dinner it is probably because he is not hungry or doesn't fancy the offering. I had a word with the senior manager about my concerns just this week, to see if my brother is getting dressed properly. I've had to do this because he thinks he can manage, but he can't. He would rather try and fail. He needs help. He won't ask for help. He is 95 years old.

My mother has been at The Grange Care Home for 9 months. After a bit of a bumpy start, I can honestly say I feel safe having her there. I live in Scotland and it's hard having her so far away but the staff and Manager have been brilliant with me. We lost my stepfather recently and the bereavement support for my mother has been unbelievable, including the patience staff have shown me over the phone. Some days I’ve called twice to check-in to see how she was coping and each time, staff have taken the time to give me a full update on how she is. They've provided 1:1 sessions for her since my stepfather died; real pastoral support, including preparation for the funeral. I've sat in the lobby of the home a few times when staff were getting called in all directions to respond to the needs of residents, to visitors, specialist medical staff and the phone. I've realised the incredible challenges attached to the role of caring for our elderly and vulnerable folk. It is professional, compassionate and well-run.

Review from R N (Son of Resident) published on 25 February 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother has been a resident at the Grange for over 5 years. I first selected the Grange amongst other homes because of its cleanliness and the caring attitude that was presented to me. I have not been disappointed. My mother has been well looked after by the caring staff. I think it is relevant that many of the staff have been there throughout my mothers stay, which would suggest that they find it a good working environment. The last 2 years have been very challenging with covid, but my mother continued to receive good care. Sadly, she has just died but I have to say that the end of life care given to her was excellent and made a difficult time for her and me that much easier. Thanks.

Overall Experience

The Grange care home have been amazing with my mother, who has dementia. She is always clean, her medical needs are always tended to and she loves the staff and has a lovely friendship with all of them. I have also noticed the staff keep her active in mind and body. The care home itself is always clean and tidy. It has been hard during lockdown with no visiting but the staff have always been accomodating with all of the family. I was very apprehensive initially with having to put my mother in a care home as I had never had a grandparent or anyone else in a care home but my worries were quickly eased with all of the care and help that The Grange care home have given us all, as a family. I would highly recommend The Grange care home in Darlington.
