This is my second review. Just would like to thank all the staff for doing a fine job. Whenever I've had concerns and worries about Mam's condition things get sorted in a professional manner. Once again, everyone does a great job as sometimes it's not easy. Everyone has been so helpful and always pleasant,
it's so reassuring. My experience has been a good one. I know my mother is happy to be there. It's a lovely care home.

My wife and I had a lovely time at my mam's care home celebrating the Queen's Jubilee, we were lucky with the weather and sat outside, lovely food brought out and drinks, plus a singer. The staff were brilliant, life and soul of the part jollying everybody along and they were dressed up. Just like a
big family gathering.

Mother appears happy with her care, from what she can remember at her age (101-years-old). She can make her own decisions about her care considering her age.

My mother appears happy and well cared for. Staff are polite, courteous, friendly and very approachable. There always appears to be staff present with the residents whenever I visit the home. The home is very clean and tidy, well presented and very welcoming even during current Covid restrictions and
Government recommendations, nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

I have been coming here since my daughter first came here and have been very impressed. I came on the 7th of May 2021 on my daughter's 40th Birthday and the management and staff went far beyond of what I would have expected. To help her celebrate, we were in one pod to see her and we laughed and cried
together and had a brilliant hour with her even through the Covid.

My partner, with dementia, has been in care at Wansbeck Care Home for 2 years now and even in this difficult time they have been fantastic with her care. Whenever she has had a problem, they keep me informed as to her condition. I couldn't ask for any more from them and everyone I come into contact
with is extremely friendly; almost like family.

Wansbeck used to be a lovely home, not any more. Don't be fooled by the smiles. It is now run on dishonesty, lies and total lack of care now. Speak out and your loved one is out. After two-plus years living there and after her third hospital admission in four months mainly through lack of care, this
is the disgusting treatment my Mam endured. This is an honest review! We supported this home on many different levels over the years but because I dared to address any relevant issues, this was their final response. I was not informed by them but by a hospital ward nurse. However, when challenged tried to make a u-turn. No elderly person deserves this. The good carers are so overshadowed by the not so good and so often go unnoticed. Safeguarding has been involved. Thankfully after a very traumatic time, my Mam is now happy in her new trustworthy home and now safe and healthy which is all we as a family ask for and certainly no more than she or any other resident deserves.

My personal review of the care my Mum is receiving is very good. She is well and clean and her needs, both mental and physical, are being very well met. She feels safe and secure. I feel the home is managing the Covid situation extremely well and are doing their best in these times.

The care given to residents during the COVID pandemic has been excellent. The staff truly care about our loved ones and the photos on their social media page really help me cope with not seeing my loved one, keep up the good work. I’m so pleased my sister is in such a loving environment.

Couldn’t have asked for better care for my Dad when he was in Wansbeck. The staff made us all feel like one big family, and we were always made to feel very welcome. Sadly my Dad passed away, but we know he was well cared for and treated with dignity and respect at all times. Thank you.

First time using a care home. My mum had to have a period of respite after being in hospital. I found the staff at Wansbeck to be very kind and they did their utmost to help in any way they could in a difficult situation with COVID.

I came into Wansbeck Care Home on 29th November 2017 and was only there for convalescence. I came for 2 weeks, 'till the other home got my room ready properly but when I came in I loved it so much I wanted to stop here and it will be 3 years in November now. The carers are all lovely and are there when
you need them when possible. I have never looked back as it feels like home from home.

My aunt was recently in Wansbeck for a period of respite and we as a family couldn’t have asked for better care for her, she was quite poorly when she went in but she was well cared for and came home very much better. Thank you to all the very kind staff.

MY best friend was a resident at this care home from June 2017 until her death in April 2019. During that period I visited very frequently. From the very beginning with the home, there was a lovely friendly spirit which still counts today. The staff without exception are all first-class, the way they
go about their duties. Since her death, I have continued to visit the home and I am proud to help as a volunteer, to help in any way possible. Singing is a very important feature, singing and cleaning and some modified activities available for the residents. The effect for the residents is very rewarding. Firstly if I ever have to go into a home, my daughter who has POA knows that I shall want to spend my time at the Wansbeck.

My mother passed away 25th August 2018 in this home. My father passed away in 2002 in this home. Both were treated with extreme love and respect by all the staff.
My mother was in the home for 3 years and during that time actually improved in mind, spirit and health. She regained her wicked sense
of humour yet still always said sorry and kissed the staff afterwards. It was a pleasure to visit her 3 times a year (I live in the USA). It was a great comfort to know she was with ‘family’ when so far away and on the tearful times I had to leave her there. They involved her in all celebrations and activities and encouraged her lovingly when she said she didn’t want to at first, then she loved it when she did join in. My mother never lost her smile while she was in their care. When she passed away, I saw staff members crying and so upset I had to comfort them. This is far above the care I expected yet it was the same for my father with the previous staff. Bless them all.

Thank you Colin, for your kind comments about our Care team. We appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback for Wansbeck Care Home. Thank you again Colin, if there is anything more we can do please do not hesitate to reach out.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.408)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.408) out of 10 for Wansbeck Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.508 for Wansbeck Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.508

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wansbeck Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
