Overall Experience

My mum has recently been very poorly again and is completely bedbound. Rather than her go into hospital she has been cared for in The Rookery which we appreciate so much. She is kept comfortable, clean and looked after in an exemplary manner. We find comfort in the fact she is treated in this way and couldn't ask for better. The staff also look after us as a family and for all these reasons we are extremely grateful.

Reply from Rebecca Ray, Manager at The Rookery Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review our service and provide such a lovely review, we try our best to keep residents at home within their surroundings and hospital admission is the last resort. Thank you for being so complementary about our service, the care to our residents is the most important part of our roles and also providing reassurance to you as a family.

My review to this care home is excellent. Care of nurses is next to none. Excellent caring of residents is number one in everything they do, involving in entertaining and craft making, and making that they are all looked after health wise.

I am satisfied with the care that my mother is receiving. The facilities are good and the staff are also good.

My main concern is to do with the apparent lack of activities/entertainment for the resident. I have not seen any take place during the last 4 months. Otherwise, all good.

Reply from Rebecca Ray, Manager at The Rookery Care Home

Thank you for your review, I am sorry you haven't seen activities when you have visited however I want to reassure you that we have a daily schedule that takes place throughout the week and on some weekends to celebrate certain festivities. The first moment I set foot through the door the staff there were polite and helpful. They showed me around as my mother-in-law was going to stay there. It was clean and well looked after. I spoke to other residents and all seemed happy and well cared for. Lots of activities for them. Arts and crafts. Fetes and singers in the evening. My mother-in-law was there a few weeks, this was the first time that she felt relaxed, safe and cared for. She said the food was lovely and couldn't ask for better people looking after her. Nothing was too much trouble, they had time to spend with her. Would personally like to thank the deputy manager, senior care assistant and two other staff members as they were the ones who spent the most time with her. For the amazing care that they gave her. We felt at ease when she was in their care. Also the others that were there for her also. My mother-in-law was only there a few weeks but they were really happy for her. Would recommend this home. 5 stars for everything. Thank you from both of us.

Speaking on behalf of myself and the rest of the family. I cannot praise the staff and management enough. The loving care they have shown my mother-in-law has been amazing and the carers are very special people. Their care has also extended to the family and we will be eternally grateful for their love and support during a very difficult time. Thank you all.

My mother-in-law recently passed away at the age of 102. She was a resident at the Rookery Care Home since February 2021. We have been more than happy with the excellent care she received throughout this period.
As her health gradually declined over the past few months, she was treated with kindness and patience and no effort was spared in ensuring that she was made as comfortable as possible.
Mention must also be made regarding housekeeping at The Rookery. Her room and personal belongings have always been immaculately kept and she repeatedly enthused about her 'lovely meals'.

In conclusion, the family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in the care of my mother-in-law.

I visited my neighbour/friend at The Rookery. The outside of the building is very inviting. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms and surroundings are clean and very nicely set out.
He told me how caring everyone was (I could see this for myself whilst visiting).

I was very impressed with everyone and everything I saw. I would recommend visiting if a relative needs care.

I live abroad and this is the first opportunity I've had to visit my mum since she came to live at The Rookery. My first impression was that the home was clean, fresh and inviting. I was greeted warmly by the staff and spent several hours a day in a row visiting Mum and observing the day-to-day operations. I was never made to feel uncomfortable or a burden. The staff are extremely professional and genuinely caring and compassionate to all the residents no matter how difficult or tedious the task at hand. The level of care my mum is receiving is far above my expectations. I cannot thank the staff enough for all they do for my mum and the other residents, and for easing any worries I had about Mum's care and well being.

Overall Experience
In March my father moved into The Rookery Residential Home in Ebbwvale.
A normal day for my Dad, after he gets up in the morning he is assisted with a shower. He is dressing in clean clothes. He is then taken to the dining room for breakfast which can be cereal or a warm breakfast.
After breakfast, there are options for activities but by this time Dad often has a cup of tea and a nap. While all this is going on his bed is stripped and his room is thoroughly cleaned it smells so fresh all the time.
Dad is brought drinks roughly every 1 1/2 hours hot and cold drinks that he is encouraged to drink. They have a cooked lunch and a lovely pudding.
After lunch Dad usually gets involved with the activities, he is always very proud of what he has made. Since my Dad has been there he has needed to see the doctor twice and each time it’s been arranged in a timely manner. As a family, we are so impressed with the wonderful care my Dad is given.

I highly recommend this care home.

Mam entered the Rookery early in January 2024. Took a short while for her to settle. The staff did and still do everything they can to help and reassure her, whatever the time, day or night. We ring every day and if needs be they ring me for a chat with Mam. They are quick to pick up if there is a medical problem and get it sorted straight away. We as a family are very grateful to all the staff.

Carers are very kind to my nan. I hated the thought of my nan being in there for Christmas, to be honest, but they made it so fabulous for her, I'm so grateful for everything they do. The decorations, parties, making sure everyone was included - just brilliant.
