I am satisfied with the care that my mother is receiving. The facilities are good and the staff are also good.
My main concern is to do with the apparent lack of activities/entertainment for the resident. I have not seen any take place during the last 4 months. Otherwise, all good.
Reply from Rebecca Ray, Manager at The Rookery Care HomeThank you for your review, I am sorry you haven't seen activities when you have visited however I want to reassure you that we have a daily schedule that takes place throughout the week and on some weekends to celebrate certain festivities. Your mother is encouraged to take part in the activities however on occasions can refuse to join in which is down to her personal choice but she did come 3rd place in our recent St David's card making competition and had 1st prize in pancake tossing on Pancake day. Our monthly newsletters are sent out to families which captures some of the activities and events taken place that month. We are always grateful for feedback to improve our service and your feedback will be shared with the activities team.

The first moment I set foot through the door the staff there were polite and helpful. They showed me around as my mother-in-law was going to stay there. It was clean and well looked after. I spoke to other residents and all seemed happy and well cared for. Lots of activities for them. Arts and crafts.
Fetes and singers in the evening. My mother-in-law was there a few weeks, this was the first time that she felt relaxed, safe and cared for. She said the food was lovely and couldn't ask for better people looking after her. Nothing was too much trouble, they had time to spend with her. Would personally like to thank the deputy manager, senior care assistant and two other staff members as they were the ones who spent the most time with her. For the amazing care that they gave her. We felt at ease when she was in their care. Also the others that were there for her also. My mother-in-law was only there a few weeks but they were really happy for her. Would recommend this home. 5 stars for everything. Thank you from both of us.

Speaking on behalf of myself and the rest of the family. I cannot praise the staff and management enough. The loving care they have shown my mother-in-law has been amazing and the carers are very special people. Their care has also extended to the family and we will be eternally grateful for their love

My mother-in-law recently passed away at the age of 102. She was a resident at the Rookery Care Home since February 2021. We have been more than happy with the excellent care she received throughout this period.
As her health gradually declined over the past few months, she was treated with kindness
and patience and no effort was spared in ensuring that she was made as comfortable as possible.
Mention must also be made regarding housekeeping at The Rookery. Her room and personal belongings have always been immaculately kept and she repeatedly enthused about her 'lovely meals'.
In conclusion, the family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in the care of my mother-in-law.

I visited my neighbour/friend at The Rookery. The outside of the building is very inviting. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms and surroundings are clean and very nicely set out.
He told me how caring everyone was (I could see this for myself whilst visiting).
I was very impressed
with everyone and everything I saw. I would recommend visiting if a relative needs care.

I live abroad and this is the first opportunity I've had to visit my mum since she came to live at The Rookery. My first impression was that the home was clean, fresh and inviting. I was greeted warmly by the staff and spent several hours a day in a row visiting Mum and observing the day-to-day operations.
I was never made to feel uncomfortable or a burden. The staff are extremely professional and genuinely caring and compassionate to all the residents no matter how difficult or tedious the task at hand. The level of care my mum is receiving is far above my expectations. I cannot thank the staff enough for all they do for my mum and the other residents, and for easing any worries I had about Mum's care and well being.

In March my father moved into The Rookery Residential Home in Ebbwvale.
A normal day for my Dad, after he gets up in the morning he is assisted with a shower. He is dressing in clean clothes. He is then taken to the dining room for breakfast which can be cereal or a warm breakfast.
After breakfast,
there are options for activities but by this time Dad often has a cup of tea and a nap. While all this is going on his bed is stripped and his room is thoroughly cleaned it smells so fresh all the time.
Dad is brought drinks roughly every 1 1/2 hours hot and cold drinks that he is encouraged to drink. They have a cooked lunch and a lovely pudding.
After lunch Dad usually gets involved with the activities, he is always very proud of what he has made. Since my Dad has been there he has needed to see the doctor twice and each time it’s been arranged in a timely manner. As a family, we are so impressed with the wonderful care my Dad is given.
I highly recommend this care home.

Mam entered the Rookery early in January 2024. Took a short while for her to settle. The staff did and still do everything they can to help and reassure her, whatever the time, day or night. We ring every day and if needs be they ring me for a chat with Mam. They are quick to pick up if there is a medical
problem and get it sorted straight away. We as a family are very grateful to all the staff.

It’s a traumatic experience when your loved ones can no longer manage to live without full care. It is comforting, however, to know that there are places like this that can provide a safe and caring environment. The range of activities provided to stimulate and entertain residents is marvellous. The
rooms are very nice and it is set in a nice area with a lovely garden. The food is great and between meals, there is regular tea and biscuits and cakes. Most importantly, the care is excellent. Residents have priority access to doctors and dentists which is much harder at home. The staff are lovely and build a genuine bond and rapport with the residents. One of my mother’s carers returned to work early, following an operation, because she was concerned my mother would be distressed by her absence. I don’t think my mother would be alive now if she didn’t have the care she has here. Sadly, her needs are beyond what the family can provide so I am thankful for this place.
Reply from Rebecca Ray, Manager at The Rookery Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review us, I am delighted to hear such wonderful comments. As a team, we strive to maintain high standards for everyone within our care. It's valuable that residents have the home-from-home experience which we aim to create, I am pleased that Mam has settled here at The Rookery and you, as a family, are reassured.

As a family, we have nothing at all to complain about with The Rookery Care Home. The staff are always so welcoming to people visiting. Our mother was always treated with care, love, respect and dignity. The staff are all amazing. The activities they provide are great and when it ever came to a health
issue, the staff would always inform us.
There should most definitely be more homes like this.
The Rookery is an excellent example of how to care and treat the residents.
During my mother's last days at The Rookery, the staff were there for us, as a family, and our mother. Nothing was too much for them.
I will 100% recommend The Rookery.
Thank you to everyone for all you done for our mother.
Reply from Rebecca Ray, Manager at The Rookery Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely review, I am glad you felt supported during the difficult times when Mam was poorly, thankfully, prior to this, Mam was able to enjoy and take part in a range of activities, made friends and felt at home with us. We miss Mam and family dearly.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.819)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.819) out of 10 for The Rookery Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 56 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 55 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.819 for The Rookery Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (568 Excellents x 5) + (82 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 667 Ratings = 4.819
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Rookery Care Home is based on 55 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 55 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
