What really makes Craigielea stand out is the staff. The management, nursing, staff, carers and support staff were truly excellent. My father was very happy at Craigielea in many ways the folks there became an extension to his family.

When asked, my mother always informs me that she is well treated by the staff in this care home. She is allowed as much independence as possible and treated with compassion, dignity and respect. The staff know her well and are skilled in caring for her particular needs. Any concerns that we have are listened to and discussed, especially in the delicate balance between care and independence.

Overall Experience

Mums admission was due to steady weight loss and diminishing self-care skills. Appetite remains poor but weight loss was halted in the first week and she is once again dressed daily and looking bright. Her health would have deteriorated and life been at risk had she not been offered care in Craigielea, which was high on our shortlist of homes.

I am confident staff know Mum well, are alert to changes from underlying health issues and seek appropriate help. Staff are welcoming, approachable and never too busy to talk. They keep me abreast of concerns and what Mum has been involved in, such as visits from her nursery school buddy. The StoriiCare System is helpful when talking about activities she has taken part in as she sometimes needs prompting to remember. She enjoys every opportunity to sing, interact with the animals, home owned or visiting and has had interesting trips and experiences which still provide a talking point some months on.

Thanks for listening and caring.

Very impressive care home. Residents are treated with a huge amount of respect, nothing is "done" to them without their permission/agreement. Staff are wonderful - cheery, upbeat and know exactly how to deal with any situation that occurs. The home has a pet dog, who roams around freely, rabbits to stroke, hens, lovely gardens with lots of seats.

It's such a comfort to know that my mother is in such a good place and so well cared for.

Craigielea has a warm, friendly, relaxed environment. Staff are very willing to assist with any questions or issues that may crop up.

My wife is relaxed and known to the members of staff who treat her with care and respect. For my part, I am now more at ease knowing that my wife is in good hands. If you haven't experienced a care home, Craigielea would be good to visit.

The care given to my sister was first class. All staff were caring and professional in the care they provided her. When she was extremely poorly they extended to her immediate family support and the opportunity to care and be with her until the end. Her care and dignity were uppermost and for this alone my entire family are extremely grateful and hold them all in the highest regards.
Great facility and brilliant team.

Kindest regards.

Just walking through the door I knew my brother was in the best place. Decor throughout is very pleasant, the garden is amazing, daily menu choice is well situated with lovely choices. The staff in all units, including housekeeping, hairdressing, admin and kitchen are fantastic with my brother, making him welcome to visit areas throughout the home. As a family, we are also very warmly welcomed and the manager is always available. We honestly feel that my brother is finally home. He loves weekly visits from the ice-cream man.

I am a solicitor dealing with elderly clients and visit care homes regularly.
We chose Craiglea for my mother because I knew that, in my opinion, it is the best care home in the area, bar none.
We are very impressed by the care my mother receives and the welcoming nature of all staff and the fact that they approach me every time I visit to provide an update on my mother.
I believe that the manager is the catalyst for all this.
She was the manager of another care home before she moved to Craiglea and the standard of the other care home dropped significantly after she left.

My mother is 93 years old.

My father-in-law has recently become a resident at Craigielea Care Home and in the week or so he has been there, I have noticed a huge difference in his personality. He is more cheery, more active and enjoys the interactions with staff and other residents. I also found hallways, bedroom and lounge areas very clean and tidy.

Overall Experience
Before my wife went into Craigielea, I examined the vast majority of care homes in Edinburgh and many beyond. Craigielea is not in Edinburgh but in my view was the best of all of those I examined. It is outstanding in every respect.
My very first emails were answered by the manager within an hour. She is exceptionally knowledgeable, hugely experienced and very reassuring. The quality of care is fantastic. The staff are very caring for the residents, they treat the residents with huge respect. The staff are not phased by anything. The nurses are brilliant and very informative about my wife's behaviour and condition when I visit. They are also pragmatic which is important in this type of environment.

I visit my wife once a week but not always at the same time or on the same day. The staff are very welcoming whenever I come. I always find my wife's room spotlessly clean. The security of the home is clearly of great importance with several keycodes needed to reach my wife's floor.
