Reviews

9.7 Hastings Court has a Review Score of 9.7 (9.734)

The Review Score of 9.7 (maximum of 10) for Hastings Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 30 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Hastings Court in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.734 for Hastings Court is calculated as follows: ( (272 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 357 Ratings = 4.734

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hastings Court is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 16 positive Reviews (80 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 19 Reviews ÷ 16 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

In 2015, when Hastings Court first opened, we had a bad experience and were dubious about bringing my husband back.

We decided to give it another shot when I needed respite due to having a knee replacement. I can honestly say that everything about Hastings Court has made a remarkable change for the better. We are very impressed.

Many thanks.

Thank you Lynda, we really appreciate your lovely comments.

I have nothing but praise for the care, empathy and professionalism shown by everyone at Hastings Court. My wife was in respite care while I was in hospital, and it gave me great peace of mind to know she was in good hands. It is clear from what she tells me that she thoroughly enjoyed the activities and the care.

Thank you Stanley, hope to see you both soon at some of our events.

My sister moved to Hastings court. What a beautiful care home. It's as much home from home as you could wish. All the staff are amazing, caring and kindness itself. There are many activities to fill the day if you wish to participate. The bistro is fab - the delicious cakes and cookies. I hope I've missed no one out for the continuing care and kindness you show my sister.

When my mum had a bad fall, there was no question as to where she would go for respite nursing care - Hastings Court. They had looked after my dad previously so well and us as a family.

I rang them immediately and they couldn't do enough to help. They made us so welcome and settled my mum in giving me the reassurance that I knew she was in safe hands. Amazing place with wonderful staff.

Thank you Claire. It was a pleasure to look after your father, and more recently, your mother. We are always willing to admit at short notice if we can and we were delighted that we were able to on this occasion.

Hastings Court has been going through a major transition in terms of management. I strongly feel that the new manager has worked tirelessly in establishing new ways of working in terms of making Hastings Court a happy, positive and welcoming environment. From my observations as a family member, it is very noticeable that all staff from management to housekeepers are working together to make Hastings Court an effective, safe well lead home.

Thank you for your kind words.

The building, decor and facilities are excellent. My partner and I were always greeted with warmth and humour and encouraged to come and go as we pleased.

The Bistro is a wonderful respite area to have some quiet time during any visits, particularly if a loved resident is having a difficult day. The atmosphere is one of love, laughter and happiness and there is always some form of activity going either in the garden, the individual floors or in the Cinema room next to the Bistro.

The staff work very hard and long shifts. Despite this, they were always cheerful and would go the extra mile for my aunt, who could be quite stubborn as regards what she would eat and drink. Ratio of staff to patients was occasionally low, however these were rare occurrences and management were open to ideas put forward for how such situations could be dealt with to maximise care giving for residents at these times.

I think our English Springer Spaniels became more well known than us!

Both my grandfather and grandmother were cared for at the home before they passed away and they were both very happy there and were so well looked after. We cannot thank the home enough for everything they did for them.

My Aunt, known as 'Mum', is in her 100th year.
She has been a resident of Poppy (2nd floor).
I visit her almost every day and I have always been greeted with a warm welcome.
The care that Mum receives is always of a professional, dedicated and caring manner.
I am extremely impressed by every service Hastings Court offers.

Very modern (new building) all facilities available. Carers work hard and are pleasant and helpful.

Designated doctor is very unhelpful.
Hairdresser very useful and social facilities (bar, coffee) useful.

Overall we think the standard of care and provision is good.
Our friend was in for respite care/short term following a stay in hospital.
Our main concern is that they were slow in compiling a care plan and gathering medical knowledge of her condition and needs.

In our view, there have been discernible 'ups and downs' since opening but the family remain satisfied that my mother-in-law is as comfortable and settled as she could be anywhere, given the challenges that life sadly now presents to her. Certainly, the reception staff are always most welcoming and the majority of care staff are approachable and respond to any concerns. My mother-in-law enjoys many of the activities, particularly those of a musical nature. It is with disappointment, that we understand some of these are to be curtailed this year. She really becomes much closer to 'being her old self' during these activities.

My parents have lived in Hastings Court for nearly a year and I cannot praise the home highly enough. Although obviously we would rather they did not have to live in residential care – as they do (one parent has Parkinson’s Disease and the other dementia), Hastings Court is the perfect place for them. The care focuses on each and every resident as an individual – and residents are encouraged to engage in the range of activities provided. Activities include music therapy, pottery, baking, tai chi, outings to the pub or to shopping centres and many, many more.

Friends and family are encouraged to join in and always made welcome. The personal care both my parents receive is of a very high standard but the staff always consider their needs, maintain their dignity at all times and simply cannot do enough for them. The staff often work beyond their paid hours, tell me about particular issues my parents have raised and generally ‘go the extra mile’ time and time again.

Staff are cheerful and helpful, willing to assist with any request with a smile. Staff were prompt requesting GP visits and prescriptions but the GP service appears slow. No action on influenza jobs was taken.

My mother succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's Disease at Hastings Court after a long cruel journey.

The care and attention that she received throughout her time at this remarkable care home, until the very end, is nothing other than exemplary. It sets the bar extremely high in terms of quality care that is consistent.
Every team member, in their specific role contributed to the individualised care of my mother and the other residents with genuine compassion that is palpable, and patience and professionalism that is humbling.

I feel so lucky to have found Hastings Court having suffered considerable upset and stress in viewing no less than 31 establishments across Sussex, Kent and London. Many did not fill me with confidence in the staff (or staffing structure), their knowledge, experience, level of expertise, or - crucially - demonstrated any degree of genuine caring commitment towards their residents.
It is this that sets Hastings Court apart from so many others.

This nursing home is second to none. The management and staff are excellent. Their concerns are for the residents - and entertainment is on a daily basis and the lifestyle staff work hard to keep the residents interested. I would not want to be anywhere else.

My husband has been in this excellent care home for one year and he was in another before Hastings Court. I could not wish for a better caring and happy place for him to be in. I wish everyone had the chance to receive the care he does. Everyone deserves a care home like Hastings Court. He was unsettled in his previous care home, and its so nice to see him happy and settled at Hastings Court, which keeps me at ease, so thank you Hastings Court and well done.

My friend came to Hastings Court for respite care and has settled very well at Hastings Court and although was contemplating going into a care home due to the stigma surrounding care homes as of late, they have now decided to stay permanently at Hastings Court. It is without a doubt the best care home I have had the pleasure in visiting in a long time. Everyone is welcoming and the home itself has a calm and warming atmosphere which is apparent as soon as you step into the home. The staff are all wonderful and go far beyond their call of duty. Hastings Court is certainly a home from home and are just like a big family.

It's probably the hardest decision to make, placing a much loved relative or friend in a care home. It's even harder for that person to leave behind their home with all their treasured memories.

At Hastings Court both the relatives and residents are taken through each step with the utmost care and professionalism, each residents individual needs are catered for.

The atmosphere is welcoming, caring and fun! Hastings court is a breath of fresh air, where new memories are made and old ones are treasured, where all members of staff work as a team to provide excellent care.

I joined Hastings Court in March 2017 having been a General Manager in a care home belonging to a large company for the previous 5 years. Prior to that I had been working in education.
Hastings Court is such a lovely home and I am so fortunate to have a great team around me.
I need to know that my residents have excellent care and are loved. My team and I will work to ensure that their environment is vibrant with plenty to stimulate them on a daily basis.
I have an "open door" policy and residents and their families know that they can always see me at any time.

Job Title: Clinical Lead

Description:

Not long after Hastings Court opened its doors in 2015, I joined as Clinical Lead - I lead our team of nurses and carers. In fact, I moved 150 miles to be at Hastings Court because I fell in love with it immediately and was ready to embrace its dedication to caring for the elderly.
I qualified as a nurse 29 years ago and have worked in the NHS, at one time as an A & E sister but have spent the last 20 years in care homes.
It pleases me every day to come to work and see the residents happy and smiley. When they have an "off" day, I, with others will do my very best to cheer them up.
I am so looking forward to the future and working with our new General Manager, Georgina, who is breathing a strong current of fresh air into our home.

Job Title: Head Chef

Description:

It is almost 3 years since I joined Hastings Court, having been in the catering profession for some 30 years. I was initially drawn to Hastings Court when it was still no more than a building site and I was looking for a new challenge.
I have a team of eight in my kitchen and I so enjoy preparing fresh nutritious food from scratch.
Baking cakes and biscuits every day for residents and their families to enjoy is one of my pleasures.
Above all, meeting residents on a one to one basis and finding out about their favourite foods and having a chat has to be the icing on my cake!
(pun intended)!!
