Reviews

9.1 The Kensington Care Home has a Review Score of 9.1 (9.118)

The Review Score of 9.1 (maximum of 10) for The Kensington Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Kensington Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.646 for The Kensington Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 65 Ratings = 4.646

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.472 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Kensington Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.6 positive Reviews (53 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 10.6 Target = 0.472

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I did not have any medical care but my convalescence care after hospital was very good and extremely friendly.

One great disadvantage is the lack of a residents' sitting room. If you are reasonably mobile, you are confined to your bedroom.

The garden is lovely with interesting plants.

My mother has been a resident at The Kensington Care Home since 2011.
The quality of care during these past 6 years has not been consistent and even sorely lacking at times. However, I wish to highlight that the quality of my mother's care has significantly improved since the new management was appointed on the 2nd floor in Summer 2017. Over the past 6 months, I have seen my mother's care become much more person-centred and tailored to her needs. I believe the efforts of the current 2nd-floor staff should be commended.

I have had a positive experience visiting my husband, observing how the staff treat the residents.
My one question concerns his clothing, he sometimes is wearing clothing I have not seen before. Things seem to get mixed up in the laundry.
It seems clothing is changed every day. If an article is not soiled can it not be worn for a few days?
Several articles, underwear, pyjamas are not in his room. Can they all be in the laundry?

We feel at home and that we have landed on our feet since being here at The Kensington.
The staff are all excellent from the management all the way to the housekeeping team.
Staff here do not just work here for the sake of it, they are genuine and work from the heart and they are very caring.
The only thing to bring to the attention is the cutlery, although they are washed they are not completely clean and dry.

Thank you for your review. I'm so glad that you feel at home and that you think so highly of our staff.

My brother was in for respite care at the Kensington and the staff were delightful. The staff made my brother very welcome and we're so helpful to all the family during the short time he was at the Kensington.
Prior to coming into the home, the home manager and deputy were happy to answer all of our questions and managed to reassure both my brother and I.

My wonderful father was cared for by this home in the last two years of his life. Amazing, caring, loving, supportive staff. Lovely atmosphere. Our family were treated with respect and dignity.
