  • The Kensington Care Home, London
The Kensington offers residential, nursing, dementia, respite, post-operative and palliative care.

This large, elegantly converted Victorian terraced house is situated in an attractive residential area just north of Holland Park Avenue. The building retains many original architectural features and the layout has a relaxed, homely atmosphere. The home is surrounded by beautiful grounds.

All bedrooms are en-suite and are fully air-conditioned, and several ground floor bedrooms have garden access and private patios. A hostess service is also offered to give residents a truly personal service.

The home has beautiful gardens, in a very peaceful and tranquil environment that would make it hard to realise the home is in the heart of London.

At The Kensington, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, a friendly environment has been created with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

At mealtimes, residents can choose to eat in one of many dining rooms, including the conservatory-style dining room, or in the comfort of the bedroom if preferred. Soon after a resident arrives at The Kensington, staff discuss personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at The Kensington. Staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. So whether the loved one already has a hobby or would like to take up a new one, there are lots of exciting activities to get involved in.

The staff at the Kensington consistently go out of their way to support my parents.
Medically, they are on top of the various conditions, medications and co-ordinating with visiting GP to manage symptoms. My father has multiple conditions, with conflicting requirements. However, I am very confident
he is getting the best medical care he could.
The home has gone the extra mile to help them with the transition, constantly smiling and encouraging them. The number of activities organised to keep my parents stimulated and entertained exceeded my expectations.
Everyone on the staff is incredibly friendly and positive.

The Kensington responded incredibly quickly when my father suddenly needed to move out of his home of the past 25+ years. All of the staff (and I mean everyone) have taken every step to adapt their care, support and daily routines to help him adjust to his new home. Because of the rushed move, my father
was then immediately offered a better room (more spacious and with much more light) when one became available. Honestly, the rooms are all beautiful - in fact, the whole home is a dream setting.
While I will admit that it has taken my father some time to get used to his new surroundings, I have been so comforted to see him so relaxed, feeling safe and looked after by the carers. The Kensington's environment is a warm and welcoming place and that is a reflection of the amazing individuals that they have employed there, and the culture that has been created and sustained by the management. I could not be more grateful to all of them.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at The Kensington Care HomeThank you for your kind words. We are happy we were able to help with such a quick move. We appreciate it can be difficult to settle after an unexpected change so we are happy that he now feels safe, secure and at home with us. Thank you again for your lovely review.

As a Bupa customer I decided to get in touch when I heard my sister was very ill. You took her in immediately and gave her that best end of life she could have ever hoped for. The staff were patient and kind, nothing was too much trouble and I just thank you with all my heart. You have a very happy
warm atmosphere.

When I came to the home my main concern was my medical and palliative caring. This has proved to be absolutely excellent and well beyond expectation. The carers are excellent and exceptional women, often giving beyond the call of duty.

I was charmingly shown round the care home by a member of staff. She took time and trouble. The decor in the public rooms is relaxing and smart. The bedrooms, which are small were slightly smothering and predominantly beige. It was this overall beige of the bedrooms which makes me wonder if I could
live here, particularly if I was losing my faculties.

Cleanliness, food, dicipline, management and organization are all good compared to other centers. I just want to give a few observations first: not all resident can enjoy the full range of activities, as each person's needs depend on their health condition. Second: Considering the amount paid, I wish
you would add a physiotherapy session per week it helps and added to their records.

I arrived on 4/6/25. I was walking only with the assistance of a frame and therefore moving with difficulty. I shall leave on 20/7/25 walking using only a walking stick and ask to walk easily and competently. My physio treatment has in particularly helped me but I have also profited greatly of the beautiful
grounds of the care home which I have been able to use consistently for exercise. I have been treated with great confidence and kindness.

We were very fortunate to secure a lovely room in The Kensington so my aunt could leave hospital and be well looked after. My aunt has always been fiercely independent, so it was a shock for her to be suddenly looked after so well. The care team were very sympathetic and caring towards her and took
time to comfort her and calm her when she felt frustrated. I am so delighted she is being well looked after by professionals who seem to really care and keep her occupied and interested.

My 'ex' left me for another woman, then when he wanted to come back 3 months later, I had found someone else. I tell you this so that you realise that there is no culpability, therefore no hard feeling between us. I was shocked to see the deterioration in him, since my return from six months away. No
blame on his care - the patience, gentleness and sympathy of all the staff deserves the highest praise. One small improvement might be a space where residents could meet for simple interactions, such as jigsaw puzzles and singalongs, under-non professional supervision, as well as the organised activities in the afternoon. It's depressing to be alone for too long.

I have been very happy with the care home. The thing that is of greater importance to me is that I live five bus stops or a fifteen-minute car journey from the home and this means I can visit often. I have never been to another care home so I can't make a comparison. My beloved husband is very emotional
and cries with happiness and with sadness. I always know the difference. The second most important thing for me is that I can visit at any time.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.662)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.662) out of 10 for The Kensington Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.662 for The Kensington Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (198 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 266 Ratings = 4.662
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Kensington Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
