The Arkley has been purpose-built to achieve quality nursing and residential care packages, welcoming both short and longer-term stays. Carers are experienced in palliative and post-operative convalescence care, as well as in helping younger adults with a physical disability.

They’re here when you and your loved ones need them most. For planned respite or last- minute trips. A safe space to recover after an operation. To experience what their home’s like before moving long- term. To just relax. Whatever the reason, their doors are open.

This modern home has a spacious interior with many pleasing aesthetics. A glass-domed central atrium is ideal for socialising in, while there is a choice of lounges and an on-site hairdressing salon. The home is situated within beautiful landscaped gardens and residents can enjoy the use of a patio area and relaxing sensory garden.

Meals can be enjoyed in elegant dining rooms or the privacy of residents’ bedrooms, with food freshly sourced to suit personal taste and diet.

Discussion groups, arts and crafts, and flower arranging are examples of some of the activity groups residents have formed, while there are many visiting entertainers and events to look forward to.

The staff at Arkley have been amazing looking after my mother - they are efficient, observant and always exercise empathy and compassion when working with my mother. My mother who suffers from Parkinson’s and is now at end of life however I have some peace of mind because I know how well she is cared
for. The care staff have been incredible especially during this pandemic and they are a credit to Bupa. The manager is super-efficient but also highly approachable and will always make time to discuss any concerns I have. I have nothing but praise for all the Arkley staff.

My partners Nan is in the care of Arkley Care Home. The love, care and support shown to his Nan in the home and to the family is incredible. A huge worry on my partners mind during Covid was him not being able to contact his Nan but this being proven to be the least of his worries now. The manager has
provided consistent contact with the family, including video calls so they can all talk and see each other. However busy they must be, nothing ever seems to be a problem. His Nan is treated by all of the amazing staff as family, instead of just a resident in a care home. Each one of you are amazing and cannot be thanked enough.

My father has been at this home for about 3 years and I have found the level of care to be exemplary. Not only do I feel comfortable that my father is in very good hands so far as his health is concerned but we as a family are kept updated and included in his care plan on a regular basis which is very
reassuring. The home is clean, bright, friendly and the staff and management are enthusiastic and responsive.

My Mother-in-Law went into the Arkley for a weeks respite care following major back surgery.
We found the Home very friendly and welcoming. We really felt we were part of a very large family.
The staff were all very caring and conscientious. Patients were treated with love and respect.

Mum has now been a resident at The Arkley for a year and 5 months, she is very happy and well cared for in this excellent home. The home environment is welcoming and friendly and that applies to all the management and wonderful staff that make every visit a complete pleasure.
I cannot recommend this
home highly enough, as a family we have peace of mind that mum, gran is in the best place for her complex needs! Well done to everyone at The Arkley.

The staff at Arkley are the most wonderful, thoughtful amazing men and women. They have looked after my lovely friend who has been in the home for 18 months. My friend's family are also amazingly kind and loving to their mum and grandma. They can all go about their daily life knowing that their mum
and grandma is in the best possible hands until they visit her at the end of their busy days. A place that residents can all call home which exceeds all expectations.

The Arkley Care Home goes above and beyond to look after anyone who is in their care. My grandma has been a resident here for about a year and a half and it was the best decision to bring her here after she couldn't cope with her illness at home. From the first day, they made her feel at home and all
the staff were excellent with her and they’re very patient and understanding. They also help us, as a family, with what’s going on with her and reassure us. Another thing they do is put on amazing events for all the residents and activities throughout the week. The Arkley is 10/10.

My nan has been in The Arkley now for 6 months now. I was very very sceptical about sending her there, but boy was I wrong! What an amazing home all the staff make it, from the welcome reception through to the kitchen staff, cleaners, day and night shift team of nurses. Also, the activity team who make
all the residents' days full of fun-packed games, creative things to do and live singers (which I'm certain is my nan's favourite).
My nan has made special relationships with the staff since being in there and makes us all happy knowing that she is in great hands!
I'm speaking on behalf of my whole family, we cannot thank them enough for what they have done and will carry on doing.

My sister lived at the Arkley for 12 and a half years, sadly she passed away in December. For most of that time, she was happy for about 8 years. She was able to join in with the activities, knitting, making cards and other craft projects. There were outings that she was able to go on. The last few
years my sister became more bedridden due to her disability. The staff were very helpful, kind and patient. I visited most weeks and got to know the staff well. Even when they were very busy, which was most of the time, they always had time for her. Some of the caring was not very nice but they always had a smile for her. If I had any concerns, there was always somebody to talk to. The care was wonderful.

Mum lived at The Arkley for 12 years and was very happy there. The staff, from the young dynamic manager down, are excellent. There is a good energetic vibe in this home to help the residents get the best out of their lives. The activities are excellent and varied if the resident is able to take part
in them. Mum loved the flower arranging, art, exercise, games etc. They kept her motivated and happy and helped her integrate and make friends with other residents and staff. The food is good and the home is clean and welcoming. Over the years, the home has had ups and downs but at the moment it is the best it has been and this is all due to the team of staff who currently work there. They are kind, compassionate, understanding, hard-working, thoughtful and caring. After Mum returned from hospital on palliative care, her last days were calm, caring, dignified and pain-free. Thank you, everyone, for working so, so hard when you come to work each day. It is appreciated.

I have only good things to say about the Arkley - the staff provide an outstanding level of compassion and care and provided for my grandmother’s every need. This was especially evident at the end of her life and I highly commend the palliative care provided. They were very responsive whenever an issue
arose and helped to make the last months of my grandmother’s life as happy as possible. This care also extended to the family.
They even went above and beyond to organise for her to leave the Arkley for the afternoon to celebrate a relative’s birthday party, something none of us believed was possible!

My mother has been a resident in the Arkley Nursing Home for five months and I can't speak too highly of the quality and genuine caring of the care she receives. The manager has helped to reinforce a very thoughtful approach to care, and my mum is proactively and warmly encouraged to take part in activities.
She and we have especially appreciated her being taken into the garden when the weather is warm enough, and when the family gave her a tea party in the tea room, the room had been decorated to make it even more of a celebration. The manager regards Arkley as its residents' home and this really shows.
We are incredibly grateful.

My mother went into Arkley last June with terminal cancer. She was given two months to live.
The care and compassion she received was 100%. The staff from all departments were fantastic and she went on until April this year!
I’m positive this only happened with the care received. They also gave me
backup when I needed it.
The rooms are very comfortable and they try to make it home from home.
I can’t thank them enough.

My father was a resident from April 2016 until his passing in April 2019.
I cannot express my gratitude to all the staff at the Arkley for the care, compassion and dignity they showed dad right up to his final day. I have grown to know them all very well and I felt so reassured knowing he was so well
looked after.
When Dad’s health declined and it was discussed that he might benefit from a hospice, he flatly refused as he saw The Arkley as his home and that’s where he wanted to be. My dad had nothing but kind words for everyone from the management. The nurses and health care assistants as well as the catering team and domestic staff.
I would like to express a personal thanks to the manager, the two senior nurses, the head chef and to the two domestic staff, who always had time to stop and have a chat with Dad when visiting his room.
I couldn’t recommend The Arkley enough..
Thanks again to the manager and her team.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.755)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.755) out of 10 for The Arkley Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.755 for The Arkley Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (266 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 326 Ratings = 4.755
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Arkley Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
