The team of nurses and management are fantastic. The care and attention given to my mother has been incredible. When my mother was ill they dealt with the GP and other medical teams to get her back healing again. Amazing team, thank you.

Thank you to the staff of Ashgrove, you look after my Dad well and you are always friendly, smiling and helpful when I come to visit. You keep me updated regularly by phone which I am grateful for as I live 100 miles away and I can't see my Dad as much as I would want. I feel my Dad is safe and well
cared for at Ashgrove.

I'd like to thank the management and staff for the continued care and hard work they provide for my dad. Especially all the effort they put into the residents' Christmas party. I've seen the photos and my dad was smiling and looked very happy. They are always here to help when we visit my dad and everyone
always smiles and is very kind and helpful. I can't thank them enough.

Security is good and testing is provided including masks. The site is clean and well maintained. Staff are angels! What they give cannot be measured. So kind and respectful for mum. We cannot thank you enough. Always looking after mum's needs and react brilliantly when mum is poorly and needs medical
help or doctors. A superb response where this is the case.

My mother was discharged from hospital straight to Ashgrove. The staff took time to ask us what she liked to eat/drink/music/craft. It's taking a while for my mum to settle, though the staff are doing their best to help her. Today I visited and the nurse gave me an update on her medical requirements
as the doctor had visited her. All in all, it's the best place for my mum.

Friendly, helpful staff. Have been able to speak to a nurse or manager/deputy manager on most occasions to get feedback. I feel able to ask any questions I have. Sometimes it is hard to get through on the phone but this has improved lately. Am concerned the physiotherapist hasn't been but staff liaise
with the physio department to try to get a visit. The room is a bit basic and the TV is too far away but I think this is still an assessment period.
Reply from Diane Kerwin, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Ashgrove Care HomeThank you for your review and kind comments regarding the staff which I have shared with the team. Due to the Covid pandemic, there is a backlog for physio appointments but the staff Nurse will follow this up. I understand that you are now happy with your newly painted room and the TV being on top of the cupboard.

This is my first time experiencing a member of the family being in a nursing home. My aunt has been at Ashgrove Care Home for a month, and I can honestly say, the members of staff have been extremely helpful and put my and my family's minds at ease. They have made me feel welcome, and nothing ever seems
too much trouble when I ask a question. They put my mind at ease knowing my aunt is being well cared for. This, I am very grateful for.

My mum took up residence recently. I found the home in a very clean and well organised environment. The staff and management are extremely courteous, caring, and very professional in their approach to the sick and elderly. Up to now, I have nothing but praise and gratitude for looking after my mum's
day-to-day needs.

My family friend seems very well cared for. Staff show concern for his well-being. Communication is very good, staff alert us if there are any issues or changes to friends status. Staff help friend access the lounge and outside area when appropriate by providing a wheelchair. Was very happy to see my
friend had hair it was very smart and I'm sure added to his feeling of well-being.

Due to COVID 19, it’s been a long time since I have seen my brother in the home. The staff and management have been extremely good at keeping me informed of my brother's progress throughout the pandemic, by telephone and video calls with him. It has been very hard on all the family not been able to
see our brother, the video calls were excellent, just to see him was such a relief, cannot praise the staff enough, just brilliant in keeping us up to date all the time. When the lockdown was lifted in the summer last year they made arrangements for us to sit in the garden at a safe distance and brought my brother out to us, which was just great. We are truly grateful to all the wonderful staff at Ashgrove Care Home. We miss seeing them also as they are like family to us. I would like to pay particular thanks to the carers and nurses who work in close contact with my brother, truly wonderful, caring people, every one of them. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.686)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.686) out of 10 for Ashgrove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.686 for Ashgrove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (229 Excellents x 5) + (90 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 325 Ratings = 4.686
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashgrove Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lourdes Pascua

Job Title: Home Manager

As a Registered Nurse with 40 years of continuous professional nursing practice, Lourdes has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.

Talking about her career history, Lourdes said:

“I have managed several various-sized care homes, giving me a great experience. Having worked in this setting previously I understand what the day-to-day role involves so I can support my team.”

Lourdes closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home:

“I operate an open-door policy and am approachable, not only to my team but to residents and relatives as well, as ultimately it is their home more than anyone’s. I encourage residents to make their rooms their own, by bringing in meaningful items to help make their room homely.”

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Lourdes remarked:

“As the Home Manager I believe our residents should be able to live the life they want and be able to be themselves. I enjoy taking on the responsibilities that come with managing a home and I encourage the inclusion of everyone in the home, to create a friendly environment and a great place for us all to live and work.

The care background of HC-One is what stood out to me when joining, as they understand what is involved at the home level and there is a strong support network in place for me and my team to continually develop. I am passionate about seeing my colleagues grow and develop in their roles to be able to provide and offer the best care and environment for our residents.”

Outside of work, Lourdes enjoys spending time with her family and travelling, experiencing different cultures. She also enjoys reading and watching sports, especially tennis.
