Mum transferred from a rehab centre to Bourne House & was resident there for about 9 weeks before she passed away. From the moment of arrival, she was treated with the utmost dignity & kindness by all the staff. Although bed-bound throughout, the level of care & compassion never wavered and we very much felt it was more akin to a family home than a care facility. This standard of care extended to all of us visiting Mum and we were always warmly welcomed & greeted and never felt we were inconveniencing the management and general staff in any way. Although Mum was unable to participate in any group activities, there always seemed to be something going on to entertain the residents (which we also enjoyed too!). We very much appreciated everything the wonderful staff did for Mum to make her final weeks as stress-free and peaceful as possible which was an enormous source of comfort to us. Thank you to all at Bourne House.

I have found Bourne House to be exceptional. The staff and care are outstanding.

It is a very happy and friendly place. And most importantly they do what they say they will with regards to care and activities. The residents are cared for genuinely and there are many activities organised to keep residents stimulated and occupied - ranging from singers, therapy dogs, nursery children visits, yoga etc.

My wife and I have known the resident for over 55 years - he was one of her university friends. He moved into Bourne House after a mental health crisis arising from a combination of long untreated schizophrenia and more recent Alzheimer's. For the first time in his life, the illness is being properly medicated. This and the loving care with which he is treated at BH has resulted in the appearance of a side to his personality which I have never seen before. He now asks me how I am, how did I get on fixing the car and so on. His relationship with his long-term partner when she visits has also improved back to how it was 20 or 30 years ago. For this I am beyond grateful to the staff and management at BH. They are always friendly and welcoming when we visit, and clearly treat the place as the residents' home rather than just a workplace - as the motto in the hallway proclaims. The vibe of a place like this always comes down from the top and it's a genuine tribute to their manager.

I was so impressed by my friend Roger's peace of mind when I recently visited him that I went into the manager's office before leaving. I spoke to Ben and told him that when I had asked Roger how he felt in the home he said that he felt 'safe'. It is a wonderful thing when an older vulnerable person feels secure and comfortable and well looked after.
Thank you Bourne House team, I am always impressed by the kindness and professional care that you give Roger, whenever I come in and see him. This is clearly how you are all the time.

Kind Regards, Anthony.

my father has been at Bourn house for over 2 years, the staff are friendly and seem well trained, I am in care myself so I take a very serious interest. When I did have a problem (not with the care) it was delt with promptly.
They have a lot of activities for residents and do day trips, to garden centres and alike. There are things going on in the garden in the nice weather. They always celebrate birthdays and they make their own caked which are delicious. The home is clean and well kept and there is no smell in there, the food is cooked on site and looks lovely and my dad has a cooked breakfast each day which he loves.

He is monitored and his health is good, he has dementia and bed bound he is clean and he is checked regularly for pressure sores, and if there treated quickly. I would recommend to anybody looking for a nursing home for a loved one.

The home is well staffed with carers and other staff that have time to talk to us and the residents.

As my mum is fully bed bound and suffers dementia type systems she cannot clearly communicate, but she is in good health and is happy, especially with Trevor, everyone favourite .

Review from M W (Partner of Resident) published on 12 May 2025 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I would have liked to write 'excellent' on here but it is not so. Entering the home & walking around the decor is bright, cheerful, attractive - for visitors. Patients are mostly not interested. Our experience leads us to believe our grievances are due to low ratio of staff to patients. On top floor 1-2-1 all was well now on 1st floor - jumble of wrong clothing with wrong names, valuable items (electric razor, electric toothbrush, toiletries) vanished. Partner left alone with wrong or no clothes when visited. Shoes missing etc.

We pride ourselves on the resident experience and are sorry that you are unhappy with aspects of your partner's care. We take comments such as this extremely seriously and understand you are in direct conversation with the home manager who will work with you to resolve this matter.

My wife has been in Bourne House for 15 months and despite her dementia is very settled and content. She is comfortable and well looked after by a very caring staff and activities team.

They cater to the individual needs of the residents and there are outings and musicians available. I am catered for with refreshments when I visit and made welcome. I thoroughly recommend this home.

My Mum was looked after by Bourne House for over 4 years, at every visit we would find excellent and sensitive care being provided by all staff in a highly professional manner.
During Mum's last few days, we found the care being sensitive to her condition and her failing health, the family were encouraged to visit with her during her last days and we were highly supported by all staff at all levels.
Mum passed very peacefully and the professional care continued throughout and beyond her final hours.

With all thanks to Bourne House for looking after Mum/Nan/Sister, you are all beyond outstanding in what you do.
