Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My uncle Kevin passed this week and had been in 3 other care home prior to being moved to Fernbank. He needed 1 to 1 support due to his condition. All of the other care homes did not manage my uncle and he was forced to leave them. Then we found Fernbank. What a difference and a relief for us all. The
care he received here was exemplary. The level of care was over and above - staff are caring, kind, attentive and reflective, if something did not work they would go out of their way to try something else. He wasn't eating at the other care homes, but here they took the time with him and supported him. His level of personal care was excellent, he was always clean and well presented, which was never the case in the other homes. There is a real human touch here. The family cannot thank all the staff here enough for making his final years comfortable and with dignity.
If you are looking for a care home then this is the place

Our mother passed this last week having spent the last two and a half years at Fernbank. The level of care she received throughout was extraordinary - sensitive and appropriate. Dignity, respect and kindness was shown to her every day by every staff member we encountered. We simply cannot praise them
enough, or recommend them more highly, and are very thankful mum spent her last years there. x

My mother was at Fernbank for her final eight months of life. We watched her blossom and come out of herself, she danced again for the first time in years and laughed every single day. She couldn't stop saying how happy she was and how lovely everyone was. The staff, each and everyone, are so caring,
helpful and kind, from those in charge, carers, nurses, kitchen staff, cleaners and helpers. I can't thank them enough for being so human and patient and treating each resident accordingly. I cannot recommend this beautiful home enough.

We found Fernbank a very friendly and caring home. The carers would always go the extra mile to meet the needs of all the residents.
They would always speak to my husband, even when they thought he was sleeping. They made him feel welcome and included within the whole home. He could not participate
in the activities but he was never left on his own, always felt included. The management were always visible and approachable and have created an excellent environment for the residents and their families.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.167)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.167) out of 10 for Fernbank is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Fernbank is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fernbank is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.167
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
