  • Galsworthy House Nursing Home, Kingston upon Thames
Galsworthy House Nursing Home in Kingston Upon Thames provides the highest standards of residential, nursing and dementia care, including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care and permanent care for individuals or couples.

The stunning period property was formerly home to Sir John Galsworthy, the novelist and playwright who is most notably remembered for The Forsyte Saga, who the home is named for. The beautifully appointed bedrooms and elegant day rooms contribute to the distinctive atmosphere in the home. The home has a prime position on Kingston Hill, where it enjoys wonderful views over Richmond Park, the largest Royal Park in London and home to various wild birds and animals including deer which can very often be seen walking around and being admired by the residents.

There are a variety of activities on a daily basis designed to keep residents mentally, physically and socially active so they can get involved in as much or as little as they like. The team love learning as much as they can about the residents so that their time is tailored to their individual needs and interests.

My mother spent the last two weeks of her life here and I was very happy with the way the nurses and carers looked after and respected her. Her room was bright and airy and had patio doors leading onto a terrace area. (It would have been nicer if the pots had been planted out.) I arrived a few minutes
after my mother died, but two carers with there holding her hand and reading to her which was a comfort to both her and me. The staff are all very kind.

Our family could not be happier with the wonderful care provided to our mother who has significant medical needs. The home is very clean, and comfortable with great facilities for residents and family members. My young daughter was unwilling to visit Mum in hospital, but loves it at the home and is
very happy that her grandma is being so well cared for. The staff are meticulous in their attention to Mum’s personal and medical needs. They seem to have endless patience when feeding her, and administering personal care. The team members we deal with have been warm and empathetic, providing support to Mum and emotional support and guidance to us. They keep us up to date, and tell us what to expect, which reaffirms our impression that they are well experienced and very skilled. The atmosphere is warm, and I can see every effort is made to treat the residents with care, dignity and respect. I will always be grateful for the way the home has looked after us all at this important time.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I’ve been regularly visiting a resident for the last year. She initially came following surgery, but has felt so well looked after that she decided to stay indefinitely. The site is easy to get to, with free visitor parking. It’s a beautiful building. From the moment you arrive you feel at home. The
door is kept locked for residents’ protection and you’re always greeted warmly when you arrive. The recent renovation is homely and smart. Everything is kept clean, with no unpleasant smells!
The care she has received has been very good. Occasionally one of the carers doesn’t listen to how she likes to take her shower, but otherwise they’ve been kind and respectful. The nurses are excellent and have built up a lovely rapport with her. As have the other staff, including the wonderfully warm and friendly hospitality manager.
There is a regular physio, who comes weekly and works wonders with her mobility and confidence, as well as a lovely hairdresser. Would highly recommend!

My brother only stayed at Galsworthy for a few days. But, from being very unwell and in a state of confusion and discomfort for the previous 4 weeks, during his final days, he found himself in a calm, relaxing, and caring environment.
It was not only a beautiful location with its perfect vibe (both
for patients and for visitors) but the staff and facilities were outstanding.
I understand he finally was able to relax and, sadly, passed away with carers who seemed to care.
Thank you Galsworthy House! We are so happy that he was able to stay with you.

We are really pleased with and grateful for the quality of care provided to my mum who was discharged here after a severe stroke. The staff are attentive, caring and extremely professional. The team have gotten to know my mum and our wider family quickly, and are always keen to do what they can to make
all of us, including Mum, comfortable and calm at a very difficult time. They are always well-informed about her up-to-date condition and anticipate her needs. We are being kept well informed, and feel very comfortable that we can ask as many questions as we have. The room itself is very clean and comfortable, and Mum’s personal care needs are being met and maintained to a really high standard. We have been really impressed that the quality of care and commitment is high across every level of the team, including the night team. The staff work really hard, without complaint and always seem to be in good humour. Overall, we are so thankful to everyone who is supporting us all.

When my husband was moved here I was very worried about how things would turn out for him. I need not have worried, everything went well, the staff were nice (they are the most important thing in my opinion) all other things like rooms, and services to him, he seems to have settled. I really miss him
but it gives me a little peace of mind to see how well things have turned out, of course, he does not want to be away from his own home but I hope he will be able to take it all in his stride. Thanks to all who are looking after him.

When I was first looking for somewhere to take care of my husband I didn’t know the first thing to do, so many to view but I’m so glad I found this one. The staff are so friendly and very attentive to my husband's needs also which I found that they are very respectful as growing old you seem to lose
your place in society but not here, everybody is made to feel welcome, they work hard to include you in the daily activities, keeping the mind busy is a must. The food looks absolutely amazing. I’ve got this place earmarked if I ever need it, also on the other note health is monitored on a regular basis they record it on his notes and appointments are dealt with it is definitely a home-from-home.

Very good personal and nursing care and friendly staff. My room was well equipped and I much valued access to the back garden with its view of the trees in the park. My only reservation was that the food was somewhat bland.

My mother was at Galsworthy for a few months before we recently moved her to a different care home. There were many reasons for leaving including not being kept informed about significant changes in her weight and not being kept informed about significant changes to her medication. When she was moved
to a different room in the home there were health and safety issues with the new room which I had to inform the management about together with photos. There were so many other things, it was hard work there. In the new home, things are completely different. We are very happy with the high standard of care she is now receiving, we are always kept informed of any changes and we have confidence in the home and the management.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Galsworthy House Nursing HomeWe’re sorry that your mother had this experience as this is not in line with the kind of positive feedback we usually receive. The wellbeing of the people in our care is our highest priority and we have passed your comments on to the team so that improvements can be made.

My Auntie has been a resident with you for the past 15 months, she celebrated her 98th birthday with you in December, with the staff presenting her with a cake and singing happy birthday to her, which was a very nice touch. We are very happy with the home and the amazing staff who are always friendly
and happy to give us time for a chat. My Auntie is safe and well cared for and we trust the staff with her care. Communication in the form of newsletters, emails and occasional phone calls is very good. Policy regarding Covid and use of PPE has been communicated very well and has been sensible and proportionate. She enjoys the food and the chef provides her with a fish dish 2 or 3 times a week as this is her favourite, which is a nice touch. The one disappointment we do have is that her room is very small and rather claustrophobic.
Reply from Home Manager at Galsworthy House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words, James. We loved celebrating your auntie’s 98th birthday! We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for all residents and we are pleased to hear that you are happy with your auntie’s home. My father spent four years at Galsworthy House. He suffered from Parkinson's and dementia and we chose Galsworthy House because of its specialist care and facilities. He was very happy at Galsworthy and was treated with dignity and respect by all the staff. Where he was able to, he participated in lots
of activities including live music, arts and crafts and visits from local school children. He really considered it as his home and was happy and settled. I was always greeted very warmly by the staff and was encouraged to join in events and to interact with the other residents. I enjoyed my visits very much and was always confident that he was receiving the best care. Covid-19 proved a challenging time for everyone but everyone managed an extremely difficult situation very well.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.625 for Galsworthy House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (219 Excellents x 5) + (97 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 328 Ratings = 4.625
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Galsworthy House Nursing Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Mick Newton

Job Title: Home Manager

Mick Newton is our Home Manager at Galsworthy House Care Home, here’s a little bit more about the home in his own words:

“I lead my professional Care Team in delivering the highest level of care and support for our residents. My commitment to professional development has equipped me well for my role here, where I work hard to ensure that those in my care lead happy and fulfilling lives, whilst maintaining choice over the care and support they receive.

I believe in maintaining strong relationships with residents and their relatives and understand the important contribution that these relationships make to the successful running of a care home.

I feel that the Aria Care philosophy matches up well with my own beliefs on care provision and I am committed to ensuring that all our residents continue to receive the high levels of care and protection they deserve.”
